I have very flat feet & my feet roll inwards. I actually have medical orthotics for this issue but they only work in closed shoes (even then the orthodics make fit an issue since they take up depth) My main problem with sandals is width. Even wide sandals will often be too narrow thru the arch, espeially if a wedge style. I need a wider width for the toe box area (bunion) but have a narrow heel. Sigh. I need my heel to be stable. The style of the black sandals you are demonstrating would be great for me if they were wide enough & the arch support isn't too hard or too high. The ankle strap is perfect & what I now look for. Prefer adjustable straps for fit as well. I found that gladiator style sandals worked really well since I could add insoles easily if needed but it's nice to have something lighter looking & simpler that isn't rubber bands on cardboard :)

Great question. Since they are a different style of shoe - a boot is closed all around the foot and has a shaft and sandals are open around the foot - there will be some things that are similar (traction, elevation, arch support, etc. but some are different. I might make a video on this in the fall if it would help people.

I appreciate these tips. For some reason I thought I wanted my shoe to be bendy and not hard and unflexible. I'm 59 and I've really had to think about my feet this year. I've definitely become familiar with the brands you've mentioned. One of the things I'm sad about is Colehaan stopped making their zero grand shearling dweller mule/slip on. It's a super casual and comfortable shoe for wearing at home and sometimes on some errands. Can you recommend a replacement for this type of shoe? It's made with real sheepskin/shearling.

I don't have a recommendation for you on that kind of shoe. I'm sorry.

My problem with the blue ones is foot stability at the top with the cris cross. I can not wear them as I fall out of them. The front bitt must come up the front of the foot more I think. Anyway I just came a cross your channel and it's great it's taken me years to figure out the most comfy sandles as I have a very high arch. Thank you so much for a great informational video ❤

Fit is always going to be an individual thing. I have really long toes so I have to make sure the front toe strap doesn’t hit at a joint. So, the five points will always remain the same but how they are executed can change based upon n manufacturer and style.
@oldgloryhillfarmturtlewoma91322 ай бұрын
That blue one was perfect. I bought a pair very much like that but the “lining” of the criss cross was unforgiving and had an edge that cut into my toes making them a horror to wear. The blue one looked like the criss cross was soft without that sharp edge. I also liked that the sole was wide enough for stability instead of narrowing down to a small footprint. Hopefully that shoe comes in more colors, and more importantly..a sz 5. I have a small foot and have a difficult time finding any shoes, much less a stylish, comfortable pair.

I live in Teva Tirra sandals most days. They are the epitome of your 5 qualities for a great shoe but are too casual for wearing with a dress. have been looking for a white sandal all summer that I can wear with a dress or nicer casual outfits. Either the shoes are too delicate, heel too high, or straps don’t hold my foot in place or if they do, cut into my foot. I have comfortable sandals in black and brown that fit my summer style needs but can’t find white. I know fashion sites are showing tennis shoes with almost everything, but I don’t get the look. That’s truly Fugly.

While I agree with your support spots, however, I often have a problem with the straps rubbing or cutting which in turn causes blisters or even rubbing the skin raw. Suggestions?
@AdoreYourWardrobe2 ай бұрын
A couple of things. First, FIT is personal. So while I can give you suggestions, you still need to find shoes that fit your foot well. I have really long toes, so I have to be careful when I pick strappy sandals that they don't hit certain spots or I'm guaranteed a blister. Other things to keep in mind. 1. Material matters. Picking fabric or a suede vs strong leather or faux leather. 2. You may have a wide foot bed and didn't know it (or it's changed over time.) You can have a wide foot bed and a narrow heel. So you might want to try a wide option. Another option is to have a cobbler stretch the area that is problematic to give a better fit. 3. There are creams you can rub on your problem spots to help with rub. Also, deodorant works well for hot spots too.

If it were me, I'd pick a pair of sandals that had the five attributes (with all five points of stability) and walk around your house for awhile and see. Remember, pain is relative. If you just walk around your house, if the sandals don't work, you can take them back with no harm done.

I just don’t like the look of an ankle strap on my foot! I definitely need a heel strap so I feel more stable, but I don’t like the way an ankle strap cuts ones leg off! I prefer a stream line look.
@AdoreYourWardrobe3 ай бұрын
Definitely. The great thing is you don’t need all five points of stability, you need at least two. So if an ankle strap isn’t for you, you can choose other points instead.

I don't want to argue, but I just checked Naturalizer's website and while they don't have a huge selection, there are several classic shoe styles (including sandals) in this size. Getting a 4.5 narrow, will be harder.
@Trenchant4682 ай бұрын
@@AdoreYourWardrobe No argument at all-just frustration because I agree with your points on support and comfort, but I can’t cheat on size with sandals. Checked Naturalizer and found 8 pairs total-dress sandals, pumps, and boots. I believe they may be leftover stock. I’ll check with them and let you know. Those of us with small feet are finding most brands are dropping our size. Trips to two Nordstrom Racks and to Nordstrom yielded…nothing. A few years ago, the sales woman, trying to find me sandals, ended up walking me up to children’s and offering me a floral Doc Martin combat boot. We are resorting to buying used and dead stock of our sizes on resale sites.

What do I do when one of my feet leans toward being a club foot?
@AdoreYourWardrobe3 ай бұрын
There are a couple of things you can do. One of my staff members struggles with a similar issue. She has purchased a "shoe stretcher" (you can find them on Amazon) and stretches the sandal on the foot she has issues with to give her a little bit more room. Also, make sure to look for sandals with cloth materials that have stretch in them to make it more comfortable. Hope this helps!
@lesleycrane74743 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately the sandals you show do not come in a wide. Most of my foot pain is due to manufacturers not making wide fitting shoes that are cute. They also presume if you have a wide foot it’s fat all over or you must be overweight which is not true, I have one foot that is a wide fit. If I find a wide fit it is usually not really a wide ( a true D ) Naturaliser has has been guilty of this in the past for me.
@AdoreYourWardrobe3 ай бұрын

Love your videos, but a lot of these sandals are , well… clunky and kind of extra-mature🥹..I have foot issues…lots…but never wear a shoe with a strap across the ankle…or one that looks very “orthotic”…have found that with careful shopping, shoes like that aren’t necessary and you can still get support.
