Great video! Very informative… thank you!😊 im just wondering if the digital key works well with iphones?

iPhones are typically better supported and I had tested the iPhone 14 Pro a year ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3KUi5qriNajn9k Sometimes when Apple updates the iOS, it could break the functionality. We are in a world with continuous updates. Even if it works today, it could break tomorrow.

Progammer's instinct: now IF there's another new key registered during this 10-day period, it's either: a. you'd not know at all that your car has been tampered with; Or b. You'd have a few days delayed to know that thieves targeting your car, and provided that you're actually counting that 10 days

Good point. Don't drive the car for 10 days to reduce the likelihood of it happening. 😜

We have one fob and one card key. My wife uses the fob and I use the card key. On my wife’s phone app, she has remote control to the car. On my app I cannot link to the car. The only work around is if I log into my wife’s account on my phone then I have remote access to the car. Do you know of a way to get the card key to work with the app? Also I cannot get the digital key to connect to the car. I can download it, but I can’t get it to connect to the car. Any suggestions?

It's not related to the key card, but it's related to the account the car set up with. You'll need to login with your wife's account on your phone. What phone do you have? Since your wife's account is the primary account, her account would be the master. I haven't tried creating multiple accounts to the car and just use the same account on multiple devices. The master account can share a digital key to others.

That is what we have been doing. Which kinda works. I'll set that up again. Once I get this set up, I'll try the digital keys again. Those have never seemed to work. My wife has an iPhone 11 Pro and I have a iPhone 12. It get stuck at trying to connect via bluetooth with the car during the digitial key connecting process. @@lsft

Does using the digital key prevent hackers from amplifying the signal to start the car as can be done from the fob? Or does the digital key on the phone work the same way?
@lsft8 ай бұрын
Very good question. I don't think I have all the details of the Toyota/Lexus implementation. Digital key uses BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). They didn't mention UWB, but we definitely know that they read the proximity of the device to allow it to lock and unlock. Even if they repeat the signal, the proximity would not be close enough to unlock.

I have a the same question. I would add this. Could a hacker follow me in the shopping centre and copy my key fob? Or my cell key?
@lsft8 ай бұрын
@@LucMasson i have not heard of anyway that can happen. It requires the registration of the key and a connection to the Lexus servers in order to setup the key.

What I heard from my friends working at Toyota is that such issue with Bluetooth is mostly caused by the OS of the phone. iOS keeps killing the third party process so the connection won’t persist in the background. They are currently working on the next gen using UWB for the digital key. So they just somehow gave up on Bluetooth 😂
@lsft8 ай бұрын
Well.. UWB is still Bluetooth. Just a newer version of Bluetooth and more secure.
@lsft17 күн бұрын
Well, the OS does offer digital key features which is what Lexus should opt for. The Bluetooth modules do have uwb seem to have more issues. Definitely newer phones are better.
