They need to refresh the Everyday Preferred. Modernize the design, give it some sort of grocery or gas credit to offset the annual fee. Maybe a streaming credit and add that as a multiplier. Drop the 30 transaction requirement down to maybe 20? BOOM, perfect pair with the Green. A pro tip I learned from Amex subreddit: If you aren't in a rush to get the EDP, sign up for the Amex Everyday first, because the upgrade offer from Everyday to Everyday Preferred that gets targeted to some people is sometimes as high as 40,000 points! Better than the public sign-up offer

Great video. There are a lot of interesting combinations to make in the AMEX portfolio. People are not creative enough. The EveryDay Preferred Card has the same weakness as the Blue Cash Everyday, the 6k annual cap on groceries. As long as the card fits your lifestyle, then it is a good card.

I just moved to this setup, I held the Amex Gold for two years a month ago I downgraded the Amex Gold to the Amex Green. I've have the Everyday Preferred for a while now as well, it will definitely see more use for the groceries category unless I'm using my Amex Blue Business Plus.

It’s crazy I never thought about this set up. My only concern is getting 30 swipes on the EPC that are not groceries or gas. I would get 10-15 swipes for gas/groceries per month. And the rest would have to be “catch-all” purposes. If it was 20 transactions, it would be MUCH more doable! I’d still rather use the Gold for now!

I've had the EDP for a few years now and think it is woefully underrated and too often overlooked for AMEX setups. Instead of an AMEX business card, I've built a fairly significant MR point total using EDP, Pt, and Gold. But lately I too have been considering the OG AMEX Green for the reasons you outlined. Just not sure if I would go with the EDP / Green with Pt (getting a reduced AMEX annual fee total) or simply adding Green to my current line-up.
@magnus15959 ай бұрын
This is a great combo. For the price of the golds annual fee, you get your three top categories covered, gas, groceries, and dining out. And if you go over 30 times on the preferred, you are getting 3 on dining, 4.5 on groceries, and 3 on gas. If the green card added gas to transit, I could see the preferred going away and that would up the green card applicants. Or they may add gas to the gold and be 3s across the board in fuel, food, groceries and travel.

I mean in your example you had literally 10 the spend on grocery vs restaurants. A card where one of the main perks is high dining reward doesn’t seem like a good fit. Also to hit the 30 transactions a month you’d need to use the card as a catch all. That means doing unbonused spend. I’d like to see this comparison again with more resturant spend and the gold getting the BBP as a sidekick
@jmbwashi Жыл бұрын
Lots of good value here. There is a little bit of lounge access and airport security perks. The green card for me makes the most sense if you don’t have the platinum card and live in a city to take advantage of transit category. The Everyday Preferred is nice but doesn’t have credits to offset the fee very well so I feel like you need to put spend on it to get value. I don’t like cards like that. But if you can get enough value from 4.5x groceries 3x gas and 1.5x everything else. It could compliment the Gold card quite well. Once you hit $6000 groceries you can switch to the Gold and 1.5x on everything else is the best you can get without BBP. While I think there is potentially more value to be had there is a $95 fee and $6k cap and the 30 transactions a month are all things that complicate things. If you want close to the earnings no annual fee and no caps and required transactions to track the Gold(Food-flights) and BBP(everything else) is less of a hassle to manage.

I would love to see similar examples when pairing the BBP card WITH THE GOLD CARD. IT’S ALSO GREAT HOW LITTLE YOU GUYS SPEND ON EATING OUT, BUT I DON’T BELIEVE MOST PEOPLE ARE AS DISCIPLINED AS Y’ALL, SO IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE THESE EXAMPLES WITH A HIGHER RATES DINING SPEND. ALSO, YOU TOUCHED ON IT IN THE VIDEO, BUT FOR THE GOLD CARD, IT REALLY DEPENDS ON IF YOU WOULD ORGANICALLY HIT THOSE MONTHLY CREDITS. The Green’s credit are not very valuable for Platinum card holders but would be nice if you don’t have a Platinum. P.S. Sorry, a lot of my comment is in all caps. Great video. What's your opinion on the Everyday Card (Not Preferred) Is it a good intro card to the AMEX MR program? I currently don't have any AMEX cards and am working on a sign up bonus with Chase, so once that's done, I won't have too much more to spend. The welcome bonus offered to me jumped from 10k to 15k with the same spending requirements (2K in 6 months), probably because I've visited the AMEX site a few times recently. I would like to join the MR program so I can earn points and link up my Rakuten account to earn even more. I just don't feel like paying an annual fee at this time. I believe the Everyday card is the only no annual fee card that earns MR points. Since there is no annual fee, do you think this is a good card to start my MR journey and them applying for one of the other MR card (Green/Gold/ Platinum) card in the future?

#1, it’s not a fair comparison to pit one card up against two separate cards in terms of point earning capabilities. Obviously 2-card setups will be more versatile than 1-card setups. More fair if you compared the Gold + BBP setup, which is far more common, against this one. #2, the Everyday Preferred card forces you to spend 30x a MONTH to get the increased value from it (still assuming dining & transit will go on your Green in this setup and wouldn’t count towards that) which is insane from my perspective. Unless you are already spending money like a crazy person, it will be costing you more to pull that off than the points give you in return. For most people at least; I certainly don’t go shopping every day. Plus it leaves no room for spending on cards outside of this setup. #3, the credits provided on the Green card are more subjective in their usefulness. I believe the credits on the Gold card are much easier to extract real value from. You don’t HAVE TO travel with lounges / Clear, but you do HAVE TO purchase food if you want to eat, and far more often at that. So no. Just no.

Yes. We are not going out all the time. For instance, my family went to Olive Garden a few days ago and spent $70 and we probably won’t go out anymore this month. And if we do it would be something small, like a few pizzas. And yes $800-$1,000 a month on groceries is correct. We spend about $200-$250 a week on groceries.

@Spend.Earn.Travel.2 ай бұрын
There are plenty of reasons to pay an annual fee without useful credits. When I had the gold card it cost $250 (at the time) but I would earn upwards for $500 a year in Membership Reward points. And that’s just at one cent per point. The points eating potential put weighed the annual fee.
