About the Irish thing, the irish language does not actually have direct words for 'yes' and 'no'. If someone asks a question in irish, the response mirrors the question i.e. Will you do the thing? A: I will do the thing/ I won't do the thing. So what your character is actually saying is Ni dhéanfaidh mé é i.e. I won't do it

According to the 1950s comedy duo, Flanders and Swann, in Tonga, the word for "no" is "Oly-ma-kitty-luca-chi-chi-chi" (at least that's the vaguely phonetic rendering of it on a number of lyrics sites). Their song that introduces that tidbit also suggests that, due to it taking so long for them to say "no", you can get a lot further with an intimate partner before they can withdraw consent... How culture has changed...

Also 'Tá & Níl' are often wrongly translated as yes/no but their correct translation is there is/there isn't and they're used in response to questions asking 'is there xyz? /isn't there xyz? We just don't have a catchall positive/negative term like yes & no

They actually do this even when you're not recording, but it's a fun joke that really works well in videos, and I guess that's why they added it. They have lots and lots of other small fun details in it as well

I'm impressed by all the language options. And they're not just simply google translated. The Japanese one is not a direct translation of "no". That would be いいえ"iie". いやです which they used would more directly translate into "I am unwilling" and it's more fitting as a forceful response to unreasonable requests (Though it'd not be very socially acceptable). Still, good translation work it looks like

To be fair, this whole design aesthetic was already explored pretty thoroughly in Megaman Legends. Not to say this isn't good, but it's definitely leveraging that game's visual experimentation a LOT

It's nice to see a group with language options that clearly consulted with experienced localising teams. The foreign languaes I know manage to convey not just the direct word translation of no, which usually ends up like 'is not' or not there', but conveyed 'I forcefully refuse your unreasonable request'.

3:30: This character creation segment is shockingly detailed, especially given the PS1-ish graphical style. 6:00: Dan took six minutes to design his character and I'm not complaining, this is great. Being able to pick the model and texture for every piece of clothing like that is cool, but it must have been an artistic challenge, even with the lo-fi/retro aesthetics. 12:55: Wait, was he joking about firing people for not laughing at jokes, or was the "Kidding!" the joke? And why does he think repeatedly threatening to fire interns is funny? 16:45: Mood. 21:15: More games should have dedicated laugh buttons. Imagine if you could "participate" in cutscenes by having your character nod along with what the speaker is saying or laugh at it or something. 26:50: Yes, it is pause-able. 0:37: Bluebeard seemed neat, then I realized that that name is probably a bad omen. 4:45: Belt buckle definitely goes with the jacket buttons. Shame it didn't end up in the finished character design. 6:40: It really is. And it goes well with the retro aesthetics (I can't imagine a realistic character being so charming with such poppy animations). 8:25: _Dragonlance flashbacks_ 12:00: It looks even better in the actual game than it did in the game-in-a-game. (Though the expressions are definitely part of that.) 14:05: DAMMIT STOP THAT! Ugh. I'm glad I've never had a boss that thought he was funny. 16:05: To quote Jenny Nicholson, there are no flags of any other color. 18:35: Or the muscle guy is telling you to like and subscribe, but I really hope it's the recording thing. 24:00: Yeah, it sounds pretty bad when you put it that way. I was a bit worried about where "a world where saying 'no' is quasi-forbidden" might go, but the game definitely punched up with that concept. And it's just charming overall. I love it.

Holy moly, tá Gaeilge acu!!! I was wondering, when the Japanese option came up, how it could be localised in Irish - "Ní dhéanfaidh mé é!" literally translates to "I won't do it!", which is one reason why it's so long, compared to, uh, "no" (there isn't a single perfect translation of the English "no" in Irish, as in some other languages). Their choice seems to fit reasonably well in most contexts so far.
