Man when Avi comes in for his solo I get chills. What a voice.

I love this song and it breaks my heart every time I hear it. Kirsten's voice starts so small and alone at the beginning and ends almost like a scream of pain. Kevin's celloboxing kills here, sets just the right mood and it's wonderful to hear Mitch, Scott and Avi as they build each of the chords...something special indeed. Thanks, DS

These five emit so much emotion and it Carry's over to those that are hearing them. Brilliant, now I've got to go dry my eyes.

There is a reason they averaged 12,000 in attendance for an arena tour this past summer. I mean, they played Madison Square Garden. What I've really noticed about them over the years is they they have never stopped working for 8 yrs. That, combined with their talent, has put them on top.

Kirstin had an infection in her right eye for this video. She styled her hair to obscure how swollen the eyelid was. I think PTX can sing anything but their ballads like this are awesome. Love your reactions. You have such an amazing voice and an appealing energy.

Sound is great. Balanced not only within the video but also with other KZbin videos, so I didn't have to scramble to raise or lower the volume. This song is gorgeous. I have so many favorite parts, so I'll just mention one quickly without giving myself time to think: The bridge. With Scott solo, then that AMAZINGGGGGGG Scott/Avi duet, then Mitch joining them (love it when the boys sing as a trio, as in the end of "Carol of the Bells"), and finally Kirstin. Restraint. Patience. Timing. Blend. Perfection.

Thanks so much for this reaction. You cannot listen to a PTX video without having an emotional reaction. It may be different each time, but you will have one.

I love this performance. It's so emotionally raw. Beautiful. Pentatonix has always had a great work ethic. You can already see it in their Sing-Off performances - they put so much effort into every one of those, and I think that won them the competition in the end. They were never once sloppy or unprepared, whatever you think of the choices they made.

I just recently found your reactions. I love your reactions. You have expressed genuine emotions during your reactions. In addition, you are correct in just because you don't like some, doesn't mean that it's bad, it just doesn't resonate with you. (Sing Off performances). Keep being you and I'll keep watching.

I so enjoy your thoughtful and appreciative analysis of each performance of PTX. I am also happy that you usually get right into the music video, saving the discussion until after the music. It helps me to hear it first then think about what you have to say. Keep doing what you do. I look forward to each new reaction and I often replay those I have already seen.

The sound is great. I think it says a lot that PTX videos are so simple because watching them actually sing the song is more interesting than some flashy video would be. It's truly an art. Speaking of Michael Jackson, I hope you react to their Evolution of Michael Jackson!

The interesting thing about this particular video - and I only mention it because you said they looked like they were in a trance - is that they were supposed to be a portrait. Scott had a death-grip on the chair trying not to move much. But if you go back to where you paused it at the end and look, the white canvas behind them makes more sense.

Knew there was something about this video that screamed vintage. In the early days of photography, people would have to stay in the same position for several minutes for the process to complete. Also, people didn't smile in the photos because it was too difficult to hold a smile for that length of time. The sepia tones in this video enhance the historical feel.

The balance between your voice and the video is good now. Thanks for the work it took to get it right. And this is also one of my favorites. I love Avi’s voice in here, and I always it when he has a duet with Scott, as he does in Mary Did You Know. I’m looking forward to your reactions to the SingOff, and I’ll echo another comment; please listen to the judges’ comments as well. One time I listened to the whole of each program and found it very interesting to compare what the judges said about PTX and contrast it to what they said about the other groups. Basically there was very little negative criticism of them, usually some problem with the others. It was always constructive criticism for all the groups, but by the last few performances (I thought), it became a competition for second place for everyone else. Enjoy the journey! I know I will enjoy coming along for the ride.

This cover is a masterpiece: One of the best they've done! It's a showcase of their talent, especially Kirstin's emotional singing (she is my favorite ).Can't wait for you to begin the Sing-Off performances, because that is where I became a fan.. They made a video of their audition song for the show (soon after they had won it), so could you react to that one as well? Loving your thoughts and opinions; You are a very insightful person. The sound you have between the video and your speaking in the microphone is pretty equal now, so really good quality.

You have touched upon something I have always wondered about really great singers. I also realize that they need to somehow mentally prepare for their performance - especially when doing a heartfelt song like this one. Songs such as this make me, as the listener, cry like a baby a lot of times! The emotion these songs evoke is truly palpable. My question is how on earth do singers get themselves mentally and emotionally prepared to sing these songs, but maintain their own composure and not fall apart and cry during their performance? I guess it's a good thing I can't hold a tune and don't even sing in the shower, because I just know I wouldn't be able to hold it together on stage!

Thanks for reacting to this. I completely agree with you. PTX loves what they do and they’ve been through a lot to get where they are today. Their love and passion for music shows in their arrangements and performances at their concerts. Kirstin really showed off in this one. Lol. She sounded great. I don’t know if it was just me, but I could hear I really subtle staticky sound when the music wasn’t playing. Other than that, everything was great. 👍🏽

Agree, PTX and Home Free are on another level. This song here tears me up every time I hear it. It's on several of my playlists and I never get tired of it. The pose they were in while singing struck me as a old family portrait for some reason. The sound of your voice and video was clear, although I could hear a sound in the background that I can't describe. I will go back to see if I can figure it out. 🙂 Edited to add that it sounds like ocean or radio white noise when you talk, but not while the music video is playing (hope that made sense). I could still hear you clearly though.

Can I just say that I love our facial expressions when you are reacting to all of these artists! (not just PTX) Also, PTX won their 2nd grammy with their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" video and their 3rd with their collab remake with Dolly Parton on "Jolene". I also really love "Sing", "Come Along", "Can't Hold Us", "Gold", pretty much everything they do and their Christmas Albums are in my opinion probably some of their best work!
@hudsonamery15584 жыл бұрын
It's funny you mentioned Whitney Houston. Yesterday, PTX announced the last song on their new Christmas album. It's going to be DO you hear what I hear featuring Whitney Houston. I cannot wait to hear it next week when it is released and look forward to your reaction !

Never been that fast. First: loved your reaction. Second: what I really appreciate about ptx, is that they don't overdo their videos. Setting and wardrobe always in the same coulorsceme (spelled correctly?), always eye candy, but never distracting from the music. Although the most colorful videos like "come along" "sing" and so on just suuport the song. Third: sound quality definitely got better. It's much more leveled. Before you were often hard to understand. Music could be a little bit better, fuller, still. Keep on doing your thing!

Ellen: Just in case nobody answered your question yet, "color scheme" USA, "colour scheme" UK. But the Oxford English Dictionarseems to be heading more and more towards the American spelling, so I would go with "color scheme"

One of the things I love about PTX so much is that they always use whoever is best for whatever song. It's not just Scott always taking lead or Mitch, or Kirstie, they know each other so well, their strengths and weaknesses, Not many, lol, and they use them. They also don't over do songs like a lot of people do. This video they wanted it to look like they were standing in a Family photo, staying still for the photographer.

Nice review/reaction. I think you've gotten a handle on your audio mix. This video is brilliant (of course) but it also has one element unique in the large and growing Pentatonix videography: Scott doesn't sing with his hands. No idea how they managed it...maybe glue?

I noticed a difference with the sound immediately and was going to comment on it anyway. I have listened to this song so many times for years now and for the first time I was able to pick out Avi on the part that Scott leads off, displaying an emotionally flat affect with "say something I'm giving up on you", then Avi joined with "I'll be that one if you want me to." then Mitch comes in, "Say something I'm giving up on you." and Kirstie joins to wrap it up with "I'll be the one, if you want me to". Was that the bridge? Anywho, the emotional tension builds from there until Kevin sings the last line. I was going to ask you if you changed something because in the harmonies I could pick out each voice if I chose to do so. Normally, I can't do that on this song. Especially Avi. I knew his harmony couldn't have been very many steps from Scott's part... and yup! so close to each other on the scale, but beautifully done! Another plus nobody stood out that was supposed to be blending singing the harmonies. And, in the beginning.. you sounded like a radio DJ! I like! back when I sang every chance I got I had a real problem I couldn't figure out how to deal with.. I could tap into that place that held the pain, or was so beautiful it was tangible (for instance: Mitch's voice in certain parts of his range. His angel voice and upper chest voice drives emotions straight through my core, like a hot knife through butter. Mitch can bring me to tears from how beautiful he sounds) ... but I always (ALWAYS) would find myself starting to cry.. and I CANNOT sing when I cry. So one of my main prayer requests since the age of 14 has been that when I die God will fix that for me and allow me to sing with passion even if it brings me to tears. My voice won't crack. 😊
