Say Yes To A Western Cape Road Trip | The Beautiful Side Of South Africa

Dear Nicole I have been watching your channel for several years now. However, I have never seen anything like I watched today! Yes, you have always shown interesting places and done interesting things... However, today was something else again! The production value of what I saw today is a major step-up on anything I have previously seen! The story, the b-roll, the editing, the music - all worthy of a major production house! If this is a sign of things to come, then count me in! On a more somber note, I trust you are safe and well! I have not heard of the Western Cape being involved in the violence of the last week or so. Nonetheless, all rather worrying! Hi Tony :) Wow, what a great comment so thank you so much for taking the time write that lovely comment. I will hopefully be continuing in this direction, however with more of a hybrid between vlog-style and the style seen in the video above. With regards to the recent unrest in SA, thankfully the Western Cape was not affected, but still devastating to see the destruction that was done in Kwa-Zulu Natal, but they are on a massive clean-up and rebuilding mission there which has been wonderful to see. We live in Gordons Bay and our favourite route is Clarens Drive to Betty's Bay and beyond at times. Hence moving back 5 years ago, after being away for 30 years. That Clarens Drive is one in a million, beats Chapman's Peak by a mile :) My grandparents owned one of the first houses in Betty's Bay and have been going there since we were babies, but unfortunately just haven't gone back as much as we would like. This trip was such a great reminder as to how beautiful that side of the world is.

When International travel restrictions first came into place, I think we all felt incredibly hemmed in. What I’ve realised though is there is so much of my own country (UK) that I haven’t seen yet! We are currently in the Lake District which is absolutely stunning and we will be combining home adventures with overseas ones once the world gets back to normal. Really keen on hearing about the front Runner Camping set up on Blair's fortuner? Does he have the freezer and dual battery system they did too? Many youtube overlanding set-up's and reviews are done of companies in Jozi. But with Front runner being popular in CPT I'd like to hear more about your experience with them!🙂

We have a camping fridge/freezer at home which we use on our trips, and are looking at installing both a drawer & slider system in time. But so far, we love our set-up! Mild 2 Wild in Durbanville installed everything & we'll get them to do our dual battery installation again. He did have a dual battery system set-up previously but have had some trouble with it recently, so are in the process of getting it redone. I'm wanting to do a full car overview video where we take you through our set-up from the car to camping gear, so it will cover all of the above aspects :)

Been subbed to you for yearssss and your videos always inspired me to want to adventure. My recent car is on its last legs and I’ve been looking at a Toyota Tundra to build for overlanding and to hopefully one day go on adventures like you! Side note, I’m going backpacking for the first time next month. Are there any backpacks Blair would recommend?

Thank you :) Oh awesome, well I can confidently say that our Toyota Fortuner has been an absolute dream thus far. Blair bought it second-hand & it's really given no serious trouble, and is such a comfortable ride. With regards to backpacks, we independently bought backpacks in the UK years ago on a special as we were both heading on backpacking trip but both of ours are pretty stock standard & I think that there are probably a lot nicer ones with more functionality on the market now. With regards to day backpacks, we can both confidently say that these Tropicfeel Shell backpacks that they sent us (featured in the video) are easily the nicest and most durable backpacks that we've owned. Putting the whole 'sponsored' thing aside, both of us would definitely recommend checking them out as an option.

Hey :) The recent looting and violence in SA was mainly confined to one of our provinces (Kwa-Zulu Natal) which started due to the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma. The Western Cape (i.e. Cape Town & surroundings) did not suffer any problems thank goodness. The situation has been calmed with little to no incidents being reported within the past 24 hours & life in the affected areas is slowly getting back to normal, with a massive rebuilding & cleaning up operation underway that the community has started.
