This movie would have been incredible had it been 90 minutes of Kirk Cameron whacking people with a giant candy cane as the poster suggested.

Truly amazing. This is such a heavy handed approach to something that isn't really a big issue around Christmas. I mean I know a few people who avoid the Christmas season like the plague, even avoiding church services on the day, because of the blatant materialism, greed, and idolatry that the world is so well know for. They don't try to force their beliefs on others; they just avoid Christmas. That's it! There's no overbearing film trying to justify every little thing they believe! Except someone thought to make this junk. Great thoughts, Kevin! I love what you do.

@Juananim89 жыл бұрын
Garet Robertson Well, I would argue that ripping Noah apart would be an appropriate thing to do. In terms of filmmaking: it was atrocious, and its use of biblical inspiration was non existent (its like grabbing the names of very famous characters and changing the world around them to your whim... which is stupid) I would argue that the main points to look at when reviewing this film (of the first 20 minutes at least) would be a good lesson in how far is to far in terms of creating a Bible based film
@RiseOfTheKumquat679 жыл бұрын
Still haven't seen Noah, but Exodus: Gods And Kings is the Last Airbender of Biblical stories. Everything is toned down, the plagues are set up in a strange way, God is misrepresented, and Moses has absolutely no arc as a character.

One thing I see that I’ve never seen or heard mentioned is the opening setting with Kirk sitting in a Christmas deco’d living room that looks all too much like it’s straight out of a Home Furnishings catalog - Christmas edition, or a Christmas season screen saver. You know, the thing that really gets me about the ending is that Christian organized a hip-hop dance routine. Dance routines, especially rehearsed ones, take at least a couple of months to reserve. Sure, he's buds with Deandre as evidenced by his presence at the Christmas party, but not even Deandre could've whipped up a dance number with his troupe in a minute, especially one that's implied to have been choreographed to a T. Earlier, the movie states that Christian had been in the anti-Christmas funk for at least a couple of months. His wife looks frazzled, as if she's had to do most of the arranging for the party - even getting Uncle Bill to play Santa - and is genuinely pissed at Christian for reneging on his duties for quite some time. So, this either tells me that: 1. Christian pretended to be in an anti-Christmas funk for a couple of months just to surprise his wife with the hip-hop dance routine, which is near-borderline abusive in that he deliberately reneged on his duties and lumped them on his wife to the point where she'd chew him out during his apology, or: 2. Christian organized it begrudgingly, which is contrary to what the hip-hop dance routine is meant to symbolize (the gospel-bursting joy of terrible, terrible crunkcore), so he's trying to keep about-face to Deandre and his wife.

I remember dragging the family to the theater to see this after watching Kirk Cameron promote it on Bill O'Reilly. I've been apologizing to my family ever since. Although, we still talk about Santa Claus clubbing a heretic like a baby seal, even after all these years. If I recall, the entire run time of the movie was about 70 minutes. And the whole thing felt like they were stretching out the run time just to make it long enough to show in a theater. Unlike Kevin, I did enjoy the conspiracy theory guys. I thought they were the only redeeming virtue this dumpster fire of a movie had.

I have no idea what the purpose of this movie was. I guess it was to explain the origins of certain Christmas "traditions" and justify Christians using them, but I think he's really reaching with his rationalizations here. The symbolism of Christ dying for our sin is nice and I don't actually have a problem with Christians celebrating Christmas since I do too, I'm just saying his logic is all over the place.

``St. Nicholas = Santa Claus'' is actually a pet peeve of mine, because they ARE NOT the same person! .... at least, over here in the Netherlands they are two different persons, with two different celebrations, both involving giving and getting presents! :D (St. Nick's is 5th of December, and christmas is with christmas, of course ;-) ) This isn't the first movie which claims they are the same, and it probably won't be the last, but it always grinds my gears, so i really just wanted to get it of my chest. Unfortunatly (i find it unfortunatly, at least,) there has been a big controversy a few years back (and around St. Nick's it's been brought up again, every year since) involving the party.... The controversy comes from the fact that St. Nicks in the Netherlands is traditionally celebrated by... painting your face black... yeah..... I do get why a lot of people are against this practice, cause it is very similar to the very racist use of ``blackface''. However, there's a little bit of a missunderstanding, since the St. Nick tradition of painting your face has ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to do with race. In fact, if you can believe it, the practice actually comes from another tradition about cleaning your Fireplace, espacially the Chimney. The purpose of the black facepaint is to look like a chimney-sweeper. I swear that i'm not making that up! I hope someone has learned something to day, and the more you know, etc. bye :)

@@jborrego2406 I forgot I posted this comment (It has been 6 years ago). I'm not the same person as back then and yes: Zwarte Piet is absolutly problematic, even racist. I'm convinced of that now too, and I'm ashamed I defended it in the past. I don't think everyone who celebrated/celebrates Zwarte Piet hates black people (I didn't), I just think they don't know how much the tradition hurts black people (I didn't, but I do know now, which is why I completely changed my opinion).

Actually, it also won worst screenplay/writing, Kirk Cameron won Worst Actor, and also won the worst screen combo with Kirk Cameron and his ego.

A couple of observations about this movie... did they steal the New York Comic Con logo font? Also, the character introduced at 6:33 seems like a token racial stereotype and it makes me uncomfortable because it's kinda how the modern, evangelical, K-Love listening, church views black Christians. If I was that guy and read the script, I would've been like, 'Wait, wait, wait... AND you're making me the DJ?' This movie definitely tried way too hard to be progressive against a super strict fundamentalist culture that largely isn't around anymore. I get that there are still Christians that think that Christmas trees allow Satan into your home or whatever crap, but an awful Kirk Cameron movie isn't going to suddenly enlighten them. Just like Cameron is trying to convince THOSE people to lighten up in this movie, he also needs to lighten up and let people celebrate Christmas however they want, no matter how misguided that seems to be to him. This whole movie is so backwards and contradictory in its premise. Anyways, fantastic video from a new subscriber.
