I’m in the same boat as you. I am still obsessed with fine jewelry but not bags. I’m okay buying mid-range/contemporary bags going forward, but I don’t see the value in spending thousands of dollars for a bag. Most of my nice bags I don’t even use due to fears about theft.
@billiexluxury2 ай бұрын
I just love fine jewelry, but I am also starting to look towards more affordable fine jewelry from brands like Mejuri (not an ad) who carry 14k solid gold as opposed to 18kt that the main jewelry houses carry to make up a portion of my collection. I'm exactly the same as you I only wear my nice bags on date night or special occasions, they are not my everyday choice. Which country do you live in? This is funny, luxury will never be dead. It’s just that for years we saw working & middle-class trying to keep up with the rich rich by maxing out their credit cards to purchase a bag, etc.. those days are gone. Luxury has slid because for the most part it was the working and middle class that were purchasing a majority of it. Social media, influencers, working at middle-class FOMO. Now the working and middle-class absolutely cannot afford to max out their credit cards anymore . Content creators have had to shift to replicas and dupes so now working class are into getting the hottest replica instead of purchasing the actual luxury. The rich, the true rich, where money is no object will always buy luxury.
@billiexluxury2 ай бұрын
Great comment. The super wealthy will always be able to afford it but everyone else not so much anymore. Do you really think influencers are moving to replicas? That’s disappointing if it’s true

Hi! 🙋🏼♀️I’m brand new to your channel and this is the first video of yours that I’ve watched. It was such a terrific and thought provoking vlog! I’ve taken a step back from buying luxury handbags for now. For whatever reason, I was heavily influenced to buy three luxury handbags last year. This was the result of watching unboxings from Content Creators I follow. For me to buy three lux bags in one calendar year is crazy and not like me at all. I seriously had to give my head a shake. I totally got caught up in the hype. I purchased two Celine bags and a bag from Loewe. The problem is I live in Canada and our exchange rate is atrocious atm, not to mention taxes, duties and delivery charges for purchases abroad. By the time all was said and done, a $3500 handbag quickly turned into a $5000 handbag. 😬 I have reflected a lot on where I want my future dollars to go and while I do still very much love luxury, being able to travel is much more important to me. Those three bags cost me $15K CAD. When I think about the places I could have travelled to and the memories I could have made with that money, it makes me a little sad to be honest. There is a quote I stumbled upon and read often: “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer”. Hard lesson learned.
@billiexluxury2 ай бұрын
I love this! We live and we learn. After selling our other house the first thing we did was book a holiday because we haven’t had one in years. I’m excited to travel again. I understand being heavily influenced and caught up in the hype, I felt like that on my Hermes journey and now I look back and think I don’t even want to do that now I don’t even care about getting a Birkin or Kelly now, things have changed. Did you happen to buy the Puzzle bag from Loewe? I do really love that bag and it’s been on my Wishlist for a long time but I’ve never pulled the trigger on it for some reason. That sucks about the Canadian dollar and how they end up costing so much more. It’s good to reflect and not get caught up in the hype anymore at least you have some beautiful items to enjoy now 😀
@ruthmclean51162 ай бұрын
@@billiexluxury I did in fact buy the Puzzle bag. When I found out that Loewe was discontinuing the OG Puzzle, I panicked. Even though the new Edge bag is beautiful, I wanted the OG from the Jonathan Anderson era, that was handcrafted with nine puzzle pieces. I became obsessed with finding one. I did find one that was in pristine never worn condition on Vestiaire Collective and bought it. The seller was from Spain and as I said, our dollar is seriously weak against the euro which was a downer. I cannot tell you how much I love this bag though! It is my “go to” everyday bag and it’s so beautiful. It is size small in satinated calfskin, and in the “Oak” (light caramel) colorway. I had been looking for one in pebbled leather for durability. I thought the smooth calfskin would be too delicate but it’s not. After using it for 10 months nonstop, it is still pristine and has the cutest slouch. I see Loewe is now offering a limited selection of OG Puzzle bags on their website in four colorways, I think due to the backlash they received when they discontinued them. Ugh… why do I love luxury handbags so damn much?!! They are my Kryptonite!
@billiexluxury2 ай бұрын
Why discontinue something people love and change it. It seems silly. It looks like an awesome everyday bag from the research I did, I like a more casual look because I have kids and slouchy is easier. The caramel colour is the best in my opinion. That’s good to know the calfskin is durable, it is supposed to be more durable than lambskin for wear and tear but so good to hear it’s still in excellent condition and holds up to daily use. One day I might just buy it 😀 maybe I can find one at a good price on the preowned market too because I think retail price is too high now and I wouldn’t pay that much. I’ll have to check out the edge bag now

There are so many things that are luxury that are free. A walk in the park, a slow breakfast. Exercising in the afternoon. A good bath. A picnic with the kids or the girls. Things that don't give us anxiety! But people can't flaunt that so it seems it doesn't count.

Hi, fellow Aussie here. This video came up on my feed. I agree with 100% of everything you said. Still love luxury handbags but only buying the more practical styles which I can use everyday to get the cost per wear down. Am also turned off by Chanel’s corporate greed but a couple of the vintage styles are still on my long term wishlist (but no rush get these). The economy and world situation is quite depressing but handbags is still a bit of an escape where I can find some joy and fun away from all the seriousness.

First the ultra rich can spend because 9,000.00 to them is like spending 9 dollars! And the rest are going into credit debt to just buy a bag! But jewerly gold has been an investment for Century’s gold is something that will never disapear! Ive put my focus into my family! Also having a designer bag dose not make me special or give me super powers except being vain!

Great comment. To the ultra rich the cost is nothing but there’s a real problem with people trying to keep up and getting themselves into debt over it. I never buy any luxury items on credit you will end up paying so much more in the long run it’s not worth it. It’s bad debt. Also i never buy luxury gold!!! If you do simple math of gold market value in kt cost vs spending 5,000.00 on something thats only worth 500.00 in actual gold value and craftmenship is now machine made in jewelry also and the stone aren't even high end! The van clef stuff is onyx which is the cheapest and mother of pearl is cheapest material and value is where? Just same as any bag buying for the name not value in gold or stones!

We are definitely just buying for the name. I like to buy my diamonds from a diamond dealer vs buying them in high end Jewelry because the quality you get and the size for the price is not even comparable. Hi, although you've made some valid points and it's good to see an influencer deciding to be sensible with her money but it came across slightly judgemental about the people who love buying luxury. I know you're just sharing your opinion but everyone has a right to choose how they want to spend their money without sparing a thought for how difficult it is for others because everyone earns different amounts regardless of the economic climate. If people don't like the excess hauls then don't watch them. I think it's wrong for people to bitch about people full stop. It's their money, they can spend it how they like.

So the issue for you is the opportunity cost of buying luxury. I think luxury spending should come from disposable income. If it comes from important funds such as funds you should be saving or using for life’s projects or essential expenses then you do lose out on those important things in life. It’s a matter of being disciplined with spending. We are all guilty of spending more than we could afford so it’s not a unique situation and it’s not really about value of luxury.

If you want to look sophisticated, you only need well taken care off garments with good quality materials. Washed, steamed and obviously not ripped or full of holes. If you have children, I would definitively focus on investments. For myself I safe/invest 70% of my income and the 30% go to necessities, then fun money of experiences, clothes etc. Then are you prepared for any emergencies,? If there is no power for 3 weeks do you have enough food, water, cash, emergency lights heating/cooling etc to for your family. Things like that should go first, then savings/investments and luxury is a cherry on the top 🙂
