I feel you Jacky. I grew up in Majengo, saw everything that you described. And just like you, made my way out and that of my siblings through education. I was amongst those who ignored every other influence and went through to university, crafted a career through NGO sector, and ended up abroad. I now live and work in Australia

I grew up in kangemi, ave seen almost everything you’ve talked about, when in class 7 mama lacked our school fees, which pushed me to becoming a house help at a very tender age, after three years I went back to school and I was ready to make my dream come true,I persuade my education to university level and God’s love and grace has been sufficient.

Living in Eastlands with brothers is the worst anxiety trigger anyone can ever go through. You're ever worried, ever fearful of your siblings. This is so relatable, Jackie may God always cover you and your family in grace.

It's so true everything that she has narrated about life in the hood. I grew up in kawangware and it's not easy that say she making me work extra hard to get my mum out and broo from that environment. It took my aunt and uncle to get me out of that place cause now my brother was lost in drugs and my single mum jobless, life was tough the step they took made me realize there is more to life than having a boyfriend with silvers all over his neck. I have lost friends others raising kids . I thank God I managed to join Maseno uni. and currently am a certified journalist, currently working in an office In Kisumu. Am glad to say I can pay bills with the little I get and still help my mum out. Let's spread such gospels to RICH OUT IN GUYS IN THE HOOD to give them hope for their always light at the end of every tunnel . A story shared is a life touched.

First time to see you but l've been cutting onions all the way through. Very inspiring and l hope the police can find it in their hearts another way to deal with these youngsters instead of shooting them. I wish their could be another interview with the mum. I think her mother can really encourage most women going through alcoholism, unemployment, poverty in ghettos single handedly. TY for your inspiring story.
