i get what you're feeling about the pride parade. i live in a fairly liberal place in a very blue state where most people, though accepting, are just privileged enough to not need to worry about everything going on in our country. ive never really questioned if my rights were going to be in legal danger right where i live. last week, i went to a pride parade of the county next to mine, where they explained that we needed to beware of hateful people possibly showing up that day, and that this very well could be the last parade they are able to hold as their local government is actively passing anti-trans legislation. this county, 7 miles from where i live, has to be scared for their safety if they are to try and express themselves again. terrifying. whos to say its not my county next.

about the pride stuff - i absolutely understand it and it's such a real thing. i live in a homophobic country and pride month is such a double edged sword every year because as much as i enjoy seeing people be happy and all - the violence, backlash and homophobic attacks that come with it is way to much to handle and always hurts me in ways that i don't feel safe expressing unfortunately :( it will be okay one day, i know, but for know it hurts and it takes away from the celebratory aspect of the month that i so wish to experience

_Super_ feel being nervous to go to Pride, and not just because this year was my first proper Pride event. I went to the event hosted in my (rural-ish, conservative, Christian, wouldn't-be-surprised-if-there-are-militia-guys-there) hometown -- I _know_ there are queer kids there who need to see that there are out queer adults who come from the same roots they do, so it was massively important to me to show up. But even with that conviction, I needed a few sessions of therapy devoted entirely to my feelings around going in the weeks leading up to it, and I was a shaking ball of nerves on the day. It ended up being lovely, nobody so much as street preaching even with the fact of there being a drag show, but it really did feel like a wild card.

Being scared to go to pride is a million percent relatable, I went to my first parade/fest a week ago with friends and we're in texas so that already explains why i was anxious the whole time. Adding on my dad was also very disappointed that I went cause I also come from a religious/conservative family

last year when i went to the pide festival i went with my friend, my mom and my brother and it was pretty fun until we were in a line for something (i literally don’t remember lol) and across the street there were homophobic ppl (ofc) that were yellibv things and something happened with one of the homophobic people and a police officer then at the front of the line someone yelled that they were shooting people and then everyone started running and my friend took my hand and we ran away and got separated from my brother and mom and for some reason i got it into my brain that my brother was dead and me and my friend kept calling him and then we saw them at the car and everything was okay, but oh my god when i think of that day i can only remember parts because my brain blocked out a bunch of it. i’m probably never gonna go to a pride event ever again lol
