the consultant just pushed the same dress on the bride. They should have let her tried on a few dresses - thats the whole point of the appointment. instead she was like - okay whats not right lets fix it. I dont get this push for bride to choose the first dress she tries on. You can tell the bride herself wasnt very decisive about the dress - usually that means they're not sure if its THE dress. and the mother was right the top just looked awkward on the bride

@Zine i agree the daughter was looking for moms approval but i agreed with mom. the top didn't flatter the daughter and she has small cleavage and the dress top didn't look good on her. but if she loved the dress trying on others wouldn't have hurt and she would go with what she loved and not what her mom wanted.

The mom said she didn't like the dip in the second dress and that it exposed "too much" but the dress the mom picked out first had an even bigger dip!! On top of that the sides of the dress were sheer, even though the bride said she wanted to be a bit more modest. It really feels like the mom is only trying to pick it apart and blame minuscule things for not liking the dress. AND THEN the mom says she doesn't like it because the daughter didn't say it's the one?!? She's waiting for your approval how oblivious can she be... I feel so bad for the bride.

I agree with the consultant, Ginny seemed much more able to express how much she loved the dress in the changing room. I actually felt she was a little afraid to be more open with her mum present, and the mum misinterpreted that as Ginny not loving the dress as much as she kept saying how much she liked it. Still, with the consultant's help, and bless her for that, she was able to stick to her guns. The dress was lovely and she looked great in it.

agreed. Every time I see a bride declare herself 'indecisive' on one of these shows I make a bet with myself at least one person in her family is going to be overbearing. I have never bet wrong yet. Often too, the bride isn't indecisive at all - she knows what she likes but is told by the overbearing person that she is wrong about her understanding of what she likes. It is a form of gaslighting by the overbearing person, and it is abusive. As @SpiritDragoness noted, narcissistic parents do that to their kids. (other types of abusive parents do so as well).

The “fight for the dress” wasn’t the mother being a jerk. It was “let’s make sure that the £2000 dress is absolutely the right one, and not in a week having her change her mind.” It’s a lot of money, and you do it once, so you want to make sure the dress is THE DRESS! I have a problem with impulse buying, especially when I’m around people whose opinions I value. I now get done shopping, take a lap around the store, then transfer all my stuff from one cart to another so I have to look at everything. Quite often I find that I changed my mind on an item, or 12.

I think that even tho her mom was a little difficult, I would appreciate that. She wasn’t mean like other moms. I really liked when she said “if she’s not fighting for it, she doesn’t really like it” I just feel like this is how me and my grandmother are and when we finally agree on a dress I never regret it!

I agree. I think she was also trying to make doubly sure that her daughter really loved the dress. I also get what she was taking about about the top of the dress. She probably thought there were flattering options for her.

@@AS-yz2iz Strange, because the first dress her mom chose had an even bigger dip than the second one! It also had cut outs down the sides of the dress. So it was nothing to do with the top of the dress, she was just finding ways not to like it
@AS-yz2iz
@AS-yz2iz 2 жыл бұрын
@@kanyebreast6072 I'm not talking about how low cut or revealing it was. I'm talking about the general fit and how it looked. It seemed a bit heavy for her small frame. I also question the editing, because it was the bride who first mentioned the low cut part of the dress being revealing, if I remember correctly. The mom did mention it later as being fixed, but I'm not sure that the mom liked it fixed because it seemed to fit her better, or because she thought it too revealing? That's not made very clear.

The mom is somewhat pushy and manipulative
@AquaWugui
@AquaWugui 2 жыл бұрын
I agree that it's a good line to use when mom really wants the best for her daughter, but on the flipside, it is also a very manipulative line to guilt trip someone. If I like something based on adrenaline (because I'm fighting for it), will I still like it when the adrenaline's gone? If mom really wanted her daughter to be sure she likes it, considering that she's supposedly that outspoken, mom should only be asking if she's sure about her choice, and not faulting her daughter for not fighting for her choice. Also, if someone can't give you a proper reason about why they don't like something, the problem lies with them, not you.

It seems like most mums have a fantasy about their daughters wearing a princess style ball gown, and it gets in the way every time. In this case, the mum pushed her daughter too far. She responded by raising her voice, which she obviously needed to do.

I would caution against assuming that every mom actually wants what is best for their daughters, and I'm not even remotely convinced that this one does. Too many mothers are more interested in sabotaging their daughters for a variety of reasons: to gain narcissistic supply, to keep control over their child, to ensure the daughter stays 'less than' the mother, to ensure daughter knows her place, to ensure daughter cannot be fully happy, to ensure daughter remains reliant on mother, to ensure mother has someone to project her own insecurities onto, to live something out through the daughter, to just be nasty for the sake of being nasty, etc., etc. Often it is a disgusting, toxic mix of many of the motivations combined. It is enabling of abusers to start with the idea that they 'want what is best' for the victims of their abuse. Abusers only want what is best for themselves. Others' needs and wants only come into it in order to provide knowledge and ammo for the abusers to better hone their abuse.

The bride told the Consultant that she wanted "traditional and glitzy". Her mother then picks out a dress for her, that was NOT traditional and NOT glitzy. Mother: "The day that I have to hand her over to Calum...." - the bride is a grown woman, but it sounds like her mother thinks she is her possession to give.

Those of us who grew up in abusive homes often have difficulty expressing how we feel, especially to our main abusers. To me, the fact that the daughter stood up to the mother at all made it seem like she was responding very strongly indeed. I am guessing that that took a great deal of courage for the daughter to do. To me, the fact that she stood up to this mama at all clearly showed that the daughter really liked and wanted that dress.
