When I was trying on wedding gowns, I was astonished that the very first one I tried on was THE dress for me. I did try on others, but none of them captured me like the very first one. Sometimes you get lucky that way. And yes, I purchased that dress and had no regrets.
@agnes151019684 жыл бұрын
When I chose my wedding dress, it went like this: I walked in the dress-shop, which was an amazing affair, with hundreds of gowns to choose from and a VERY nice lady to receive me. But my eyes were already caught: there, on a hanger (not a mannequin) was MY DRESS, the ONE I have been dreaming of since I had been a little girl (somebody must have been trying it on shortly before my appointment), so I just said, pointing to it: "I want to order that dress, please". The consultant almost fainted, tried franctically to convince me not to settle for the first, telling me, what a sortiment they had from all designers. She was so busy persuading me that I did try on two other dresses - in fact only to placate her -, just to tell her then to get MY dress, which she did, and it was just as stunning on me as I had always envisioned it. I never regretted my choice :)

I understand when parents wanna pay for their daughter's dress, but more often than not, it turns into a power trip. Since they hold the check book, they feel they can turn the appointment into a search for a dress THEY want instead of the bride. The way those two women were treating that poor girl was awful. Ladies, I know we're taught as children to respect and love our family, but please grow a sense of independence from their opinions. I've seen so many brides on this show crumble under the opinions of others, even if they adore the dress they're in. I love brides that come in with their heads held high saying, "When I find my dress, nobody is gonna make me change my mind!" Opinions are fine, but honestly, if you're in love with a dress, that's it. Get it. No room for discussion. Dress shop alone or with someone you KNOW will have your best interest at heart, not their own. I picked out my dress on Etsy. Mom saw pics of it and seemed to like it. I wasn't showing her to get approval. I was paying for it anyway. It's not a wedding dress, but it'll definitely be my wedding dress. :)

I think I'm going to start a series of me having this comment on every Say Yes to the Dress video. I'm a designer, for all it matters, I'm going to tell you why when they put on the veil everyone loves the dress. Simply put, when we design something, anything, we design a package, we can't over design one aspect over another aspect because simply when everything is put together, it'll be overwhelming. In most if not all the cases when someone is not on board with the dress, they think something is missing, and that something is probably missing because as designers we wouldn't duplicate important elements. So, if the dress is simple and doesn't have much detail, the veil would probably be long and has a lot of detail, if the dress is tight, we might go with either a puffy veil or play with the material. All in all, when people are just sitting back looking at the bride, they want to see perfect, and that can't happen at that stage of you just putting half of the package on, unless the dress is really expensive and is made to be a stand-alone, which is rare because a lot of people connect the idea of a wedding dress to a veil. Dresses that have detailed tops that run into a big tall bottoms are usually the only dresses that don’t need much, because they can hold their own structure design wise. So, when someone changes their mind when the veil is on it’s because it changed the silhouette, detail level, and structure of the dress, and added whatever might have been missing.
