I am with a Niagara contractor. Over the last year we have mostly stopped using JACE and have transitioned to a "software JACE". We are using mini PCs running the Niagara server with BACnet routers and field device licenses. On small projects that would normally just have one JACE, the soft JACE gives us server functionality for essentially the same money.

Yes, this is where I see a lot of devices going. The cost of a machine to run a software image is SO cheap right now, it doesn't make sense to buy a supervisory device. Especially when you can also purchase USB to RS-485 cards for field busses.

Yea, that was a low point for sure. I mean how do you begin to explain that to the Chief Surgery or Nursing officer of the hospital!
