For the record, I installed a Melling (chevy 327 - 300hp profile) also needed the springs replaced with new lifters, in a 1995 Yukon 4x4 with 5.7 tbi, rated at 210 hp from the factory. I also replaced the factory gear ratio from 3:42 to 3:73 . After everything was done truck pulled the hills much better, would actually pass other trucks that bogged down on the grade. It did help and also passed smog test next year.

I'm looking at putting a cam and lifters in my 305 for my 85 z28. I heard that if I did I'd have to get the computer reprogrammed, is that true?
@Bonsai_444 жыл бұрын
My k1500 is cammed and never tuned. But I will say it could be tuned to get a better idle out of it after start up. I have to feather the throttle if I drive it for a while, shut it off (like going in the store) then turning it back on. When I turn it back on I get a weak idle. They say your computer forgets the cam everytime you turn the vehicle off so getting it reprogrammed is the best idea

@@Bonsai_44 Thanks. Now I did find a camshaft and the company claims it'll work with the OEM computer. Is that true, would it really just be in an install and it's good?
@Bonsai_444 жыл бұрын
I can’t answer that for sure. There’s a good possibility that’s true. I’m still running my truck almost daily and it’s not tuned for my cam.

I like to lube up one section at a time, insert the cam to the next journal, lube to the next journal. It's a little cleaner. It sucks that your block wasn't drilled for the factory roller lifter retainer. You probably could have drilled and tapped it yourself. I think all of the low compression 4 bolt HD trucks were drilled. The only engines in this era that got 4 bolt mains were corvettes and hd trucks. I slapped in a roller cam and am very glad the block was already prepped for it.

What are you doing for a fuel system, stock TBI with bigger injectors or.. I wanna cam my 1994 c1500 but ive heard so many things about how these engines dont take bigger cams well because of the TBI
@Mischiefmotorsports4 жыл бұрын
OBS Caden they honestly don’t like bigger cams, but my fuel system is a bigger fuel pump since the stock one can barely support a stock motor, and then ported tbi unit with the edges on top shaved and bigger injectors

Check out the sumk1102 cam and lifter kit it's a tad bigger then stock but computer friendly also I'm waiting for mine to show up next week so I can install it😎 slap a chip in it she should be good

@@bradymorrison2321 most people would take the heads off, but u can plumb up some pipes with spark plug threads and attach that to a air compressor to hold the valves up.

@mitchkirkpatrick7935 Жыл бұрын
Yes the car should be retuned after otherwise it will decrease performance because ur engine doesn’t know you got a different can’t than stock and it can damage engine
