Woolie is 100% right about MvC:I being the Tekken Revolution of the MvC franchise.I played every single Tekken(even Advance for GBA) but I didn't give a fuck about Revolution.And that was FREE TO PLAY LOL.Also this game biggest problem is that it has been released waaaay too quickly.People were praying for MVC3 to come out because of how many years passed since MVC2.So it doesn't really matter how good MvC:I gameplay is because IMHO nobody really wanted it(not as bad as MvC3 at least)and came out just to compensate for SF5 failure,relying on a MCU based roster hoping at least kids would buy the game

Way I see it is if a game sequel makes a previous installment have no value whatsoever (See Left 4 Dead 2, Payday 2, Borderlands 2, etc) or has nothing new to offer to the franchise (see MvC: I) then it has at least partially failed as a sequel. A sequel should improve upon the original while remaining it's own entity.

Left 4 Dead 1 has way more interesting protagonists and storylines, Borderlands 1 has a overall much better atmosphere and Secret Armory is an amazing piece of DLC. But I also only think your point is valid when it comes to heavily story driven experiences, (RPG's). A sequel of any game where the main focus of the game is gameplay should absolutely blow the first game out of the water. Assassin's Creed 2 is such a good game not only because of it's story, but because the gameplay innovations are so distinct.

There is a specific line that Nova states in this game that pisses me off that he made it in instead of a very requested character from a series that marvel is real pushing. Pretty much Nova stole Star-Lord's roster spot as a Guardians Rep. so every time I fight this character online I think, your a waste of a character to bring back.

Are you going to sell a game to the top 32 best players or are you going to sell a game to a million potential buyers. Everyone is admitting that the gameplay is pretty solid, nobody is disagreeing there, but when you're a top level player you only have to see function vs function because that's how you win tourneys. For literally everyone else, if we can't enjoy what we are looking at, it doesn't matter if the gameplay is good, these stale feelings won't go away. Same, a lot of DBZ's power comes from nostalgia. I don't think I could sit through it now that I'm an adult. It was never a big part of my childhood so I don't have that connection. Would have rather had Arcsys do a JoJo or One Piece fighting game. It will be interesting to see how it pans out competitively. I believe it will get good sales but hemorrhage population due to the influx of casuals that are going to pick it up.

In addition to still looking samey (because the source material does not have that much variety itself, alas.) the mechanics also seem mostly like "MVC3 but polished" with the same sort of assists, 3v3, with the Sparking/X-factor trigger that feels the same way. The cool parts of that gameplay are like, the rush flying thing, and actually taking control out when someone is downed to start at neutral.

Does anyone just play fighting games anymore? I mean shit this game is really good. of course it has flaws everything does. mvc2 was dominated by 4 god tier characters and reused a bunch of old sprites. mvc3 brought us the most lame comeback mechanic ever in x factor. street fighter 2 has random stun. street fighter 4 was nothing but option selects and all ultra brought was reused sfxt assets and a cammy clone. we played them though cause they were fun. fighting games are about the fight.

the problem with this game is that it has a fucking story mode.... i will only say this once *no one but fucking idiots by fighting games for the story* fighting games can have story's yeah arc system know how to do it but because you have to make shit tons of cutscenes for characters and everything's gotta be affordable. mvc 1-3 are limited to the highest degree when it comes to plot and all of that is invested into game play ascetics etc. I believe none of the graphical issues and and such would happen if they just made it like the other ones and I CAN GUARANTEE the roster would be far more diverse.

also i'm not saying no lore or fighting games, in fact i love lore like oro ties his arm back so he doesn't kill people or how iori yagami is actually a pacifist bass player who is only trying to murder someone because he hates his face, but don't waste time trying to make campaigns when you can just have arcade mode sprinkle those things with supplementary materials. soul caliburs (and tekkens) lore is great but don't rob us of gameplay for a couple of cutscenes. i'm never coming back for story mode so a one time gimmick for casuals who will drop the game afterwards so and i don't think anyone else who really plays fighting games will either.just give us character bio's/ backgrounds with some why are they here moments in arcade.

I think the state of fighting game stories is really interesting. They're either horrible and only done to unlock something and ignored (infinite, various streetfighters and Kof's, Ssbm) or mildly interesting and never returned to (MK9-10, KI, Tekken 6) I've heard about the anime games having good stories but can't speak on them personally. What I can speak on is Soul Calibur 3's adventure mode which may not have been the main story but that format has an enormous amount of potential and I highly recommend you check out what I'm talking about since you read this far.

Nah don't worry about it, Yamcha and Tien(and other characters) will fix that problem immediately. Plus, you just have to judge dbfz on its release date before you can say that it's "boring".
