One thing to note is that even though the converter has a smaller capacity than a cartridge, the *pen's* capacity may be closer or even more. Since you're filling from the breather hole, the feed and section are going to be filled with ink as well as the converter, while with a cartridge, only the cartridge is filled with ink. In my experience, the nib unit can hold a surprising amount of ink on its own.

good point.

Sorry if you have already read this on other comments pages! Have a brass Kaweco Sport (EF) permanently in my pocket (it's there as I type) - extended the cartridge by chopping the top off and fitting silicone rubber ink sack on the end to maximise the ink capacity. With the EF nib, it lasts a long time on one fill. Worth sourcing a converter with a metal-reinforced nipple for strength & longevity. Great writer - even for an EF!

That converter seems to be dimensioned for the Liliput. Maybe they could come up with a slightly larger one optimized for the Kaweco Sport, which I believe could take a larger converter.

Seems like an ingenious design. Nothing is ever perfect and there are no converters that fill every single niche. I like Kaweco pens and this appeals to me. Thanks, Stephen!

Never thought I'd watch a 15 minute video on a converter of all things. Talk about being passionate LOL. Great video!

Thanks for the review Stephen, was wondering how this converter worked, glad you did the review, and really quite ingenious of Kaweco.

1. Clever little gadget. Seems too expensive to me, but when you are 73 everything seems too expensive. 2. Somewhere along the line I became a cartridge refiller guy. And I'm happy.

Do you ever store cartridges that you refill, if so how? I want to but im afraid of the cartridges spilling after I fill them if I want to prep and put them away

@@gabrielcosta7913I’ve seen stoppers for the cartridges I just don’t remember where. Still & Stile maybe?

@@ruthfeiertag Try a bit of some soft-ish pliable material like "shoe goo" or chewing gum or candle paraffin over the opening of the used and re-filled cartridge. Stilo & Style might carry premade plugs, though it seems like an invitation to lost tiny items to me. Maybe Mr. Fakename, with his 73 years of accumulated wisdom, has a better solution. Agreed, though, that the price for a flimsy plastic tube seems excessive. When that thin stem or the pin in the joint breaks, it might be hazardous to extract the plunger portion from the column. Engineering wizards, your ideas, please?

@@gabrielcosta7913 don't overthink it. When I was a student, I just bought a couple of cartridges, a bottle of ink and a 5 ml syringe (you can use a 2 ml one) and that's it. I refilled the cartridge every evening and it lasted me the whole next day for taking notes. The next evening I refilled the cartridge again and that's it. Just don't lose the cap of the needle and keep them in a Ziploc bag or something similar. If I needed to change the color of the ink, I just took a glass of water, rinsed the syringe, rinsed the cartridge and filled it with the new ink. If I needed more ink, I just took the ink bottle and the bag with the syringe with me at the University (nowadays there are all kinds of travel vials for this purpose, I just didn't bother back then). One cartridge lasted me for 2 years and I had zero accidents during that time.

@ Honestly, I rarely use cartridges any longer, but I remembered later that what I used to do was wrap Scotch tape around the top of the cartridge so it made a small tube, then twist the overhanging tape together. The ink would be fine for some months of kept somewhere fairly cool. I never tried traveling with the re-filled cartridges, though.

I dont intend to ever use a converter with my travelling pens - I prefer a pack of cartridges. That being said, as you said, it *is* solving an issue and it *is* doing it quite well. Kudos to Kaweco for that small engineering feat.

It is a great idea and one other manufacturers should consider to increase the capacity of their converters.

Clever, but is it art? - Rudyard Kipling But seriously, is it so much more convenient than refilling an empty cartridge with your favorite ink?

I suffered through the squeeze and regular converters, which leaked; ended up filling a cartridge with a syringe, which makes my one Sport the least used pen I have; wouldn't give it away as it was a gift. Won't be holding my breath with this one, might as well get the piston Sport.

Now they should make a longer conveter that, once folded, would still fit into a Kaweco Sport.

I use old Standard Cartridges filled with a syringe which is superior in size, except for those times when one needs to prime the feed/nib, where this converter is useful. International Cartridges are pretty impossible to squeeze to accomplish this task, y'know.

Meh, I bought some empty cartridges so I could fill them with an ink syringe. Easy enough to do.

The solution is the Kaweco Sport Piston; everything else is a crutch 🩼 (a non elegant solution of the problem). When I was a student, I just refilled one cartridge with a syringe for 2 years and had zero problems.
