The SC 52 FS. This is a used engine that was left in storage for a long time. It was stuck and needed a good service, clean and bearing change.
I don't show it on the video but I had to spend a lot of time lapping to get the valves to seal well enough to get the engine to run properly.
A perfect seal would be the best but you don't need a hundred percent seal and you can get away with a bit of leakage. The faster the rotation of the engine the less time there is for leakage and therefore the engine will run fine.
It is difficult to start by hand but it starts right up with a starter.
After some research on the rc groups, I learned that it is a common problem with these engines. Some people believe that it is the bronze valve seats that are cast Into the aluminum that leaks on the sides through the head that causes the problem no matter how well the valves are seated and it differs from engine to engine.
After testing, this engine runs very well. The test runs were done with 10% nitro and it starts right up with the starter, idles reliably, and overall runs very well.
This engine with a 12 x 6 prop would be perfect for a Cub.
