CJ'S AQUARIUMS would you consider using filter pads vs filter floss? I use filter pads and it doesn't make my skimmer go nuts when I change it and they are reusable. I just put the dirty ones in the washing machine with hot water and that's it. as always, tanks looking good, keep it up!
@CJSAQUARIUMS7 жыл бұрын
that one guy whole goal of using floss was to avoid needing to wash and reuse ... would have stuck with filter socks for that train of thought.... pretty much throw away and replace or use a sponge I rinse out at this point

Lol, yep no matter how many times you watch them, something creeps through. Thank you for the good wishes - I had a 25ppm reading of nitrate last night! I'm going to do a large water change, maybe %30 (😈) and test again in a few days. Only 2 weeks since I put water in, so I don't want to rush the cycle. No sign of diatoms yet. My plan is to move the 13 mollies into the new tank as soon as nitrate is down under 10. Yep: 3 originals and 10 babies from 3 different broods. I figure they will indicate whether I'm ready to start getting fish that are on the stock list. I'm expecting there might be casualties among the smaller ones, especially when I get the flame hawk fish. This is exciting!!

CJ Nice update. Great job on the tank. It looks beautiful. I must give you mad props on the planning , and patience you've had since you started this new tank. Your hard work is showing and paying off. I love the background bets on all your videos. Also I have same problem with my skimmer going out of tune when new filter floss is added. I have no idea why. But my floss is placed after my skimmer and before my refugium. Again great job, keep it up. Aloha

Your rockscape looks very natural and beautiful. You're not "over powering" the whole layout with too many rocks like what many people do. It's also best not to have too many fishes (20 or more is way too many) or corals in there as well cos you wanna have a balance between the fishes, rockscape and corals in the overall setup. Having too many of each will make the tank look "too busy". Can't wait to see how it turns out over time.

CJ - I love my 2 Skimmer Auto cleaners and Theiling Rollermat. It helps lengthen the maintenance schedule on my 450 gallon 4 tank system. Sup brody happy fathers day, great tank, great channel. How much sand do you lose when you vac your sandbed? Can you use a heavier sand that will fall back down quicker but will still allow the wrasse`s to bury themselves?
@CJSAQUARIUMS7 жыл бұрын
pinching the hose prevents me from losing sand.. i use 2mm grain size but i have used 2.7 before in previous tanks... i think that's the biggest I would feel comfortable with for sand sifters..

Not sure if you've been explained to about using paper towel on the outside of the glass but if you don't want any scratches on your glass, go to Walmart or your local optical glasses shop and purchase the eye glass cleaning tissues.. This stuff will not scratch your glass where as using paper towel will. Paper towel is made of wood fibres that scratch glass. The eye glass tissues are made of some other type of material designed to clean your glasses but not scratch the lenses. OR, you can simply use a piece of cotton material. Glass can scratch easily - so using a vinegar/water mix on the outside of your tank will both provide a non scratching lubricant as well as a cleaning agent that is both safe for your fish as well as the glass of your aquarium. Just my two bits! (BTW, taking the extra effort in using both a cotton cloth and a vinegar/water mixture to clean your glass is something you WILL pat yourself on the back for!)

awesome system, gorgeuos fishes, if I may give you a suggestion, try to shut off the flow when dosing food, that way you can see if all the fishes are eating and you will get less uneaten food stuck around rocks etc.

@BERELEAH7 жыл бұрын
Hey CJ love the fish, can't wait to see more. Just a question about your ATO set up, do you have your aqua lifter placed higher then your reservoir or lower, or the same, because I'm experiencing issues with my Aqualifter pump that when it stops the water from the lines will run back into the reservoir and will hold the pump from pumping water on the next turn.
@CJSAQUARIUMS7 жыл бұрын
BERELEAH it's slightly above both my sump and ATO water container ... the container itself is below the sump and the output line is above the container.. this prevents any back-siphoning issues my pump is just old and needs to be flushed out with vinegar. For now turning up the timer is a quick fix
@BERELEAH7 жыл бұрын
Back-siphoning is exactly what im experiencing right now. i think im going to haveto lower the pump being that its about 2 feet higher then the container. Does that make and sense?

Check out Bulk Reef Supply's Theiling Automatic Roller Mat. They say they will never go back to socks after that thing. Totally automated and the mat roller replacement isn't expensive. Only downside I have heard is the gearing is plastic and will wear out, but again cheap repair(about $30) and last about a year to a year and a half. To me that cost is worth the ease of use and not wasting time cleaning socks which of course has a cost to it as well, besides just the time cost.

Do a small water change and rinse new the filter media sponges real good before putting them in your tank. Then (and this is gonna be a little gross) scrub your skimmer in that same water. Keeps that gunk out of your sink, but you're really gonna want to wash your hands.

Not sure where you are getting your filter floss from, but I'll let everyone in on a big secret. You can go to a HVAC store, and ask for blue bonded pad, and they will sell you a HUGE roll for about $25 maybe a little more. That roll should last you at least a year. CJ if you can mention this on your next video you will help out a bunch of reefers out there. ✌🏼

Or also trying the (Triton method) but supplyes are limited on this method. Thanks you.

Hey man you gave me a good idea but I was thinking of maybe just putting some new filtration with the sponges that I already have but the last time I did that I got a crash in the tank so I've been too afraid to replace anything because I don't want my tank to wreak rash again that was over 5 years ago but that just gives me an idea of putting new filtration with your filtration I also want to ask a question that maybe you can answer I contact Ecotech Marine about my MP40 it is turning from red to Green flashing lights and I don't know what to do because techmarine has not gotten back to me at this time so what can I do
