I work in the trades, every once in a while we will get someone that doesn’t want to pay the whole bill all at once, usually the person is very well off too.
@DataLog
@DataLog 4 жыл бұрын
We have the same problem in our firm. Every month there is about 50-70k kn (in your England equivalent buying power of 20k pounds) of unpaid bills. Mostly people who have lots of many avoid paying their bills. We go back and forth with them for weeks or months until they pay the bills. It wastes our time and energy. The mind boggles... I will never understand why.

@@adammacer Our main problem is fiscal policy. When we give out a receipt, we have to pay taxes. So basically, we always owe the government about 20k in taxes, which forces us to use credit very often. Here in Croatia, it is super difficult and expensive to get a credit... It is also incredible how can government collect taxes from us before we even get paid for the job...

The council should pay if it’s a council property. You also have a right to reclaim costs from them if you have had to do work on the house. It’s worth checking with your local council as if it’s something you needed scaffolding for, it’s probably something that they are responsible for like roofing or windows.

True but sometimes specialy in construction business it's those companies at the top that are holding the money in the banks for interests and waiting on the smaller companies to get with the billings but at the same time the smaller companies are at fault because they take on projects without having the funds and are waiting on the main companies to pay them to get shit done and the workers get screwed because of their gambles. It's a social and business issue that is not adressed and should have more coverage in the media and at the end it's all about the corrupt banking system!

Thankfully Ive never not been paid but know plenty of decent hard working tradesmen who have been stiffed. One thing I always try to do is carry out some research on the client before doing any work. Ask other trades people they have hired about them, google them if you have any suspicions, and don't be afraid to walk away. I had to walk away from what appeared to be the most promising job of my life. I smelled a rat, did some research and didn't like what I found, so I politely made my excuse and got the fuck outta Dodge. I don't know how people have the audacity to not pay money owed to others. I've heard of stories of people like this scaffolder letting it go for a few months and then getting someone to put all the windows through on the none payers vehicle or getting someone to steal their car and burning it out. So many tossers in this world.

A client of mine refused to pay for six months of tech work for his business he wouldn't even pay for the equipment he ordered. He was a total crook who bragged about screwing his father out of $70,000. My wife white an anonymous letter to his wife apologizing the affair with her husband. I divided the bill into three payments and sold each to a different collection agency.

I just love it when a plan comes together,I worked in the skip business industry and every now and again you got this problem of people not paying,most customers were lovely and I’d help them in anyway I could but there’s always one Arsehole who won’t pay,they given dud cheques and swear blind to your face they’ve paid even though the bank have returned it several times,no funds available. They then start ranting and raving at you threatening all sorts,I always asked them one more time for cash to settle the bill but obviously the won’t or can’t pay up,I lift the full container at which they think they’ve won the argument and then tip the whole shebang on their garden or driveway which absolutely infuriates them,they usually start threats which I record on a mobile phone and it’s surprising how quick they stop it once they see it being recorded,it’s the only language they understand,well done all non payers need to be treated this way as going to court achieves nothing and it’s a lot quicker.

Used to contract for housebuilders and they'd try every trick in the book to avoid paying - early settlement discount (still deducted if they were late paying), retention (never got it back), query a £10 overcharge and pushing payment back a month rather than pay £10 less. A lot of them ran their businesses on subcontractors overdrafts. When I had to borrow money off the mother in law to pay the mortgage (despite on paper having a healthy business ) that was the end for me! Missed the banter and humour, but the work and the f*cking shyster customers - Nah!

@@atomicdeath10 @atomicdeath10 It depends on the mentality of the owner because some don't like to show their wealth too much so they have a gravel road that leads to a mansion in the woods that they own. Though in more urban areas, especially in wealthy neighborhoods it's more common to see the driveway to be paved. The ones near where I live are paved with bricks and currently there is a competition between the residents to see who will have the best looking front by fall. So now we see brick mailboxes instead of metal ones, the driveways are now being repaved with bricks with some having rather intricate designs, trees being planted, new hedges, etc.

Well done to the scaffolders. They did their job they deserve to be paid. This guy doesn't realise small businesses live and die by cash flow and late payment or failure to pay might mean the difference between an owner making pay roll or not. They came up with a great solution, didn't hurt anyone and they were fair and polite enough when engaging with the guy who had failed to pay. Amazing how quickly he paid up even though he maintained he had paid already.

@Darth Wheazius this is a criminal offence not a civil matter., it's on private property. Unfortunately this could have put someone at risk and if the kids were harmed through the absence of the mother collecting them then there could be criminal charges with intent. This is why we have a legal system (not great and far from perfect) to handle payment issues. If the public had to behave this way then I'm afraid that a majority of builders would also be incapacitated given that they always seem to be late, underfunded and unable to complete the job they quoted for.
