Thank you for showing in your video how AV Metal Varnish interacts with these colors. Other KZbinrs and some Mini Painting Bloggers argued against varnishing due to the potential loss of shine, but it appears that this particular varnish even adds to the metallic shine by further refracting the light on it. I've read in the blog 'A painting chaos' that this color range was originally conceived for decorative arts and restoration work, which would explain the predominance of gold colors. Titanium and Magnesium would probably better fit in their Metal Color or Pigments range.

Painted my rings with Vallejo Liquid Gold, it looks pretty nice, used 1-2 drops of alcohol to thin it, didn't realize it didn't require thinning but even after a day it feel a bit tacky if i try to wear them so i will do a coat of Vallejo Metal Varnish over it, hope it doesn't kill the reflection, in the vid the Metal Varnish one looks more like plastic car paint rather than metal.

question: The VLG line specifically say NOT to use water, being alcohol based, can cause rust. Can we thin the Metal Varnish with the standard Val. thinner? or should we use straight IPA? Doesn't seem to have affected your metallic shine.

@@barbatosrex9473Happy to report Vallejo Metal Varnish worked great on Liquid Gold, removed the tackiness and kept the shine. I'm also experimenting with GSW Gold pigments and Metal Varnish, i've gotten mixed results, workes great in small quantities but larger quantities creates problem, if i add too much thinner it separates the pigment from the metal varnish, too much flow improver it runs down too much on the model, etc.

How are they when brushed on? My absolute favorite metallic paints to brush on are the Testor's enamels, although in the hobby modeling world that brand has definitely seen some better days opinion-wise! I just need to be sure to clear coat those parts well before any weathering as something like Tamiya's panel line pin wash will take that stuff right off!

This stuff ist alcohol based, and i really liked it with the brush. You need a synthetic brush tho, Isopropanol as thinner and never ever let water touch it, or it will Rust ;D. When it is completely dry and cured you can use any other product on top. But i was always afraid to put it into my Airbrush. For brush i did Switch to AK true metals (wax based). I think "buypainted" uses the vallejo metals in his Tutorials a lot.

I know this is from awhile back, but, I have been using these recently. I ran into a very strange issue, 2 Bottles of the Green Gold, simply would not spray. 2 seconds into it and....nothing. Like instant tip dry. Vallejo thinner will not work at all. I suspect water based, for their usual paints. This one, even thinned with regular grade alcohol would not work. I used some 99% alcohol and thinned at least 25% ....or more. And finally got it to go through the brush. I suspect old stock may affect this product. I wish that you would do a complete review on these. Full range. Cheers and thanks!

Most of the time you don't need a sealer for metallics. I have model cars that have been painted metallic for 30 years and they look like the day I painted them. But you can never go wrong clear coat. The 3 basics are Gloss, Semi Gloss and Matt. It's always better for handling too

That copper is lovely. However, I'm struggling to find a really "polished copper" look. Both Alclad and this both produce more of a brushed copper effect. Just need to work out the best mix of inks or transparent's to spray over Alclad or maybe Molotow Chrome to get that super-polished copper look...Some mix of yellow, red and orange is needed I think. Have you looked at Dupli Color paints? They're an automotive line but they have some great metallic colours. Their Red and Blue colours are used by many when creating realistic Captain America shields and the Red and Gold are top picks for Iron Man armour. They have a Copper Plate kit which looks like it produces a really nice polished copper look when sprayed over chrome or polished metal. Wondering how it would look over Alclad Chrome or maybe Molotow chrome to give that glossy polished look.
