My father build such a model when I was a child. It was a part of my life where my world was okay and one rare memory where I had a good relationship with my parents. I played so much with this model that I broke it several times and my father tried to repair it. Now - I am a father myself and I am waiting for my daughter to grow up to join me on building such a model. In my experience it is a good time together, like a small parent-child project when you sit down think and discuss on how to build it up and do it step by step. As long as you don't expect perfect results and focus on enjoying the process. (And also give your child the space to mess things up) :-D

me too, first tamiya build was a rough rider.......poorly engineered. They relied on the styrene body to brace the FRP deck/frame between the front suspension and the rear motor housing/roll bar. Every time you took a good jump it broke the mounting point of the body. I eventually gave up trying to repair it so I built a flexible mount. I eventually scrapped the body entirely and made a roll cage tube frame out of 3/16" aluminum round tubing.

20 years go, I was once assembled Tamiya 1/32 F14 Tomcat version, WITHOUT ANY PAPER INSTRUCTION GUIDES, maybe because I bought it from a good friend which had bored and stored it in his locker years forgotten. In short, I was able to assembled it, around 80% glued in placed, yet I was very satisfied with it.....the point it THAT was waaaayy BEFORE KZbin VIDEO like this ever existed.

I remember making a 1/48 F-14A long ago, loved that thing. Big and beautiful jet. Then a friend of mine had bought some 1/32 Tomcat and that thing was a beast in size. The thing needed a special display to show it off, it wasn't going to sit in a convenient little shelf spot like a 1/72 or 1/48 Tomcat.

I'll always count Tamiya as a leader in the model industry. They make fabulous kits, and you've done a beautiful job with your build. Thanks for posting. I'd love to see you build the AMK kit and compare them. I took delivery of the AMK F-14D kit a week ago and I'm blown away. The Tamiya kit comes in at $99.99 USD from Sprue Brothers. The AMK kit comes in at $68.99 USD, also from Sprue Brothers. The AMK kit features slide-molded parts, incredible intake ramp detail, positionable flaps, slats, and spoilers, and slide-molded ordinance. The decals? Fabulous! Furball Aero Graphics provides them... they're thin and perfectly registered. I know the AMK kit delay created a great deal of contention in the modeling community, and Tamiya beat them to the market but man, you've gotta see this kit.
@ScaleModelAircraft5 жыл бұрын
I have the Amk kit as well. I would not compare this two kits together ( I will be a gentleman) because it is completely different approach. Price, we can speculate but it is very much different where you can buy it from with shipping, retail, discount. For example, Tamiya kit was available believe it or not in Germany for 60euros on discount! Enjoy your kits!! All the best! Dusan

As an AO3 when I saw that I groaned. Then, I figured you had some modification. BTW, you would never see a bomb on the F-14. All attempts at high speed bombers were failures. The bombs would get stuck banging against the underside of the aircraft due to the way the air passed over them.
