There's too many scalpers in japanese pokemon. I think 151 was the Straw that broke the camel's back. It seemed some people were hoarding hundreds If not thousands of boxes.

there was an article from a year ago talking about japanese investors with some heavy bags coming into the hobby and buying a lot of booster boxes, one mentioned a warehouse being loaded with them

Also some japanese scalpers scalping big to steal the supply from the japanese market and redirecting it to the big whales in the US, which were reselling 50% to 200% msrp... so maybe its a good thing they normalize the market

Given the “scandals” that occurred with the Fusion Alt Arts and Silver Tempest “God Packs” I don’t see the single chases crashing that much. They’ve held pretty steady over time even with reprints. Given another reprint the only thing I see crashing is the Booster Box prices. I hope they do crash… it’ll give me one more shot at a box or better yet a case at MSRP.

I'm a Japanese collector and I love when my sealed products go up in value but yeah the prices of booster boxes are going up way too quickly. I'm so happy I was able to get a case of 151 for around $52 per box and Def looking forward to pick up some lost abyss and vstar universe

I definitely did not see the SwSh era reprints coming 😮 I honestly don’t think it was needed - yes, these sets were always expensive but you could still get them for reasonable-ish prices at release. I found it was mainly the early SV era sets where things went particularly crazy. Well, that and Eevee Heroes… But, this is a great opportunity to pick up the boxes and cards you may have missed before 💪 Great video Rob!

Idk why investor bros are so worried. Same thing happened to probably the biggest Japanese set in the SWSH era, Eevee Heroes. It literally got reprinted 3 TIMES! 1st wave brought it all the way down to around $60-$70 from $110. Guess what the price is now? Around $400.

yeah when the set is good enough its alot harder for tpc to print it to oblivion. evo skies is the most printed set in one of the most printed eras of all of pokemon, but because the set was significantly better than almost any set that has ever been released it just did not matter.

@@Tebgnnn September 2022 was the big one. December 2022, and February 2023 were the smaller ones. My fiancée and I were lucky enough to be in Japan at the time and boxes were around ¥8-¥9k on average at card stores. The Pokemon center had them for ¥5500 and it was before they did the mandatory taking shrink wrap off. All the Pokemon centers were stocked and it was 1 box per customer. We’d go to the Pokemon center in Yokohama and the 4-5 in Tokyo and we’d end up with around 10 boxes a day. Idk how long it lasted, but we did that for 5 days straight before going back home.

Guys, the opportunity for Japanese booster boxes is staring you right in the face. Not only have these 3 sets halved in price, but the rest of SWSH has been in decline (and still dropping) for most of 2024 Most SV sets are below MSRP and that's AFTER shipping! Take advantage of this opportunity while everyone else is distracted by English alt arts and SWSH booster boxes

Lost Abyss booster boxes were up to like 200 recently so I'm happy to hear that! LMAO and now they're suddenly down to about 120!!!!

Mixed feelings on all these reprints. Been collecting Japanese before the massive amounts of hype started 2 years ago, I started at around Silver Lance/ Jet Black Spirit. Bought boxes at market price which normally up until SV was around $50 - $60 USD. Eevee Heroes was about $100USD which I was fine with. I bought a few boxes of each set, with the expectation that they would slowly grow in value and at some point if I needed to, I could sell the boxes. If PCJ continues to reprint old sets in large quantity crashing the value years after release, I'm going to quit. I enjoy collecting but not if my collectables are going be nearly worthless.

I love that they’re doing this. I pulled my first Charizard with my son in the year 2000 - from a base set booster box that only cost me $60 total shipped to Europe. Last year he got married and I gave him the complete base set I’d had hidden for 20+ years in a drawer. I want everyone to have a chance to rip boxes of their favourite sets. I want it to be affordable for at least 2 or 3 years after a set releases and people to get to share the fun without going bankrupt chasing cards. Sure on paper my sealed stuff like Japanese 151 has tanked recently. But the upside is I’ve ordered a case of 151 from the next June wave in Japan for $600 plus tax/shipping … I’d never dreamed I could have afforded that. Fan/collector first and investor second. I need a Fates Collide ETB . Do you think if I ask the Pokémon company nicely they’ll print a few of those as well ?

Lost origin and silver tempest haven't yet rotated, so make sense that pokemon reprint them as some cards are important for the meta... I wouldn't be surprised to see that also on the english market too

I saw chilling reign at target as well today with a bunch of eevee hero’s and galar bird tins so seems the second half of swsh card life cycle is still available at MSRP

...and it will all get bought up because the yen is near a 5 year low vs USD. I suppose it's far easier to reprint Japanese since they just have the regular booster boxes vs the many different products in English pokemon cards? If they reprint Eevee heroes Rob will need more apple juice.

JPN market and cards is the way to go for collectors. Language doesn’t matter since the cards won’t be used for play, JPN card quality and texturing is mostly superior to ENG ones, and now prices are crashing for BB and Single cards. I love it.

So is this just pertaining to Japanese I guess ? Never really cared for Japanese but after buying a 151 box at 85$ I think that will be the last time I buy a Japanese box. I figured this video might have been an update for sword shield English boxes to dump so that’s what I’m more interested in and while I’ve beefed my collection up I fully expect prices to fall for English too.. saw target packed with fusion/chilling reign yesterday.. quite odd considering we’re well along into SV… nice vid Rob 😎

Thanks dude. Yes, I played the thumbnail game here a bit but the Japanese is very much crashing. It is interesting to see all this SWSH stuff at target for ETB. Don't give up on Japanese. We surely are getting to the floor and I don't think pokemon want to completely destroy their ip. Thanks so much for taking time to watch. I’ve been buying quite a few Japanese 151 boxes lately but I think it’s safe to say from this announcement that they are just going to keep printing this set into the ground. If they print eevee heroes again I’ll be interested but from now on sticking to English!

No guys, you are wrong here! Pokemon, with those reprints, are not on a war against scalpers! World is happening in August and those 3 sets have cards that are extremely important for some of the most powerful decks right now (Lugia, Raiko ex …). If they were at war with scalpers they would reprint Evee heroes! And they are not because they are out of rotation!!!

Reprints are necessary when the demand increases past the point expected. When the demand increases without a supply increase it causes scarcity. This scarcity causes the prices to be inflated. This inflation is good for pokemon and bad for pokemon at the same time. When the prices are inflated it makes the pokemon cards more valuable and it makes the Pulls more expensive because they are more rare.

True, but this makes the investment side very dangerous. If Pokemon is only concerned about the gameplay, than they should print everything to infinity. When they are done printing an expansion they should move on. Seems like they are double dipping and this could eventually backfire (or not).

This is a huge mistake by pokemon japan. The sentiment on the Japanese market is so low right now and they are further extinguishing it by showing there is no point in expecting any of your Japanese singles to hold their value. They will print them more in the future and devalue them. As somehow who has a lot of Japanese cards as well as English I see this as a very bad move and it will only reduce confidence in Japanese pokemon even further. :(
