@simonec3512 the Police do Not help you in Krakow unfortunately. They make it very difficult for you to report a crime, keeps the crime rate low on paper and helps tourism! When I was a victim of the crime I went to the Police station at the main square, they told me that I cannot report a crime at this Police station and gave me an address of another Police station in a different area. Got a feeling this is your first time in Krakow, plenty of scams like these are all over Europe actually, but the little difference in Krakow is what you've missed out on. The people approaching you at night trying to get you into a 'titty bar' are on commission as well, they're quite lenient towards tourists, inspectors on the tram will usually let you off, even the Police won't fine you at times, you will get some people over-charging you sneakily still.

@@travelwithcol4625 I just purely observed the situation. I'm visiting as I live in Gdańsk. I didn't need to change any money. To put things into perspective, my man in Gdańsk usually gives me .02 below the national bank rate if I need to change to GBP to PLN. i.e. if the national bank rate is 1 GBP = 5.17, I can be sure I'd get 5.15 as I'm a regular customer. Even if I weren't a regular customer, I'd be ok getting 0.05 below. I suppose the offices in Krakow that offer 0.07 below the national bank rate are respectable. @@travelwithcol4625 So you consider law enforcement a scam? 😉 I guess some people in Poland would've agree. Fortunatelly things have changed - most people do not cross on red, those who do are usually also be frowned upon by others. It's a matter of safety. For me personally what works even better (than potential ticket/fine) are those crossings where you see on the opposit side a sign saying "Crossing on green you give an example to children" 🤗.
@travelwithcol462510 ай бұрын
@pluki1357 most of my Subscribers are from UK & Abroad. In Poland yet get a Fine for crossing the road but in the UK and most other countries there is no law making it illegal to cross the road on the wrong light. It was to make Tourists aware so they can prepare for different Laws so they do not get a Big Fine like I did. I was at Plac Ghetta when the Police fined me, I could not find the place to cross the road and it was an unpleasant experience.. did you watch my other tours?
@pluki135710 ай бұрын
@withcol4625 Looks like there is a whole world to be discovered for you/your fellow countrymen here 🤣. At Plac Bohaterów Getta there is not even a crossing with traffic lights. So you could not have got the fine for crossing on red light. The fine must have been for crossing not on the designated place for crossing. That's another rule here: in a built-up area (town/city/village) you are legally obliged to cross only on crossings that are marked on the street - white painted strips (we call them "zebras" 😆). The rule does NOT apply where there is no "zebra" within 100 meters. If further than 100 m from a "zebra" you are legally obliged to (1) cross at a 90 degre angle to the axis of the street (2) give way to any incoming traffic and (3) do not cause danger to traffic. BTW: it was even in the local newspaper about that spot at Pl. Bohaterów Getta that Municipal Guards / the Police keep an eye there. Many people there going out of the tram did not want to go to the pedestrian crossing or to the underground passage there and were cutting corners by going straight to the opposit side - running accross the street, which is no allowed there.

A couple things you mentioned are good warnings-like the ladies in the evening inviting men to go for drinks. But some other things just involve common sense. Or they are things common to most tourist cities, as such as the money exchange offices.Also some things you mentioned are not "scams"-charging extra for milk or butter at restaurants, fines for not validating tram/bus tickets and fines for not crossing the street legally. I am a 68 year old widow from the US who has lived in beautiful Kraków for 11 years. Not once have I been scammed or been a victim of crime. I have traveled over much of Europe. From what I have experienced living here and traveling extensively, I feel you rather over dramatized several things about Kraków. Scamers from Ukraine

Maybe they are.. I’m not sure what country they are from but yes I would guess from Ukraine. It’s hard to know which ones are real and which ones are scammers.. they are very pushy and use hard sell sales techniques so I think the are Business Men behind it.
