Visited Krakow last September before the travel restrictions from the UK. All I can say is that Krakow is an awesome place with brilliant people. Very walkable city with a lot to see and do. I thought Prague and Budapest were hard to beat, but Krakow runs them very close.

@@batwoman958 Lots of nightlife if you like that kind of stuff. Lots of restaurants and things to do. It's really cheap when it comes to a phone bill, public transportation, food, rent(depending on location). Even if you don't live dead in the center you'll have tram/bus connections that cost like $0.80 or Uber that is really cheap. Loads of stuff to do in the summer time(probably not at the moment). The people are great. It's really safe so you could be out and about at any time of the day without running into any trouble unless you're looking for it. Let me know if you need any other info.

I had a very relaxing week in Krakow 2 years ago, and I'm looking forward to going back. It has a combination of beautiful sites, affordable lodging, walkable streets, great restaurants, history, and a polite/casual atmosphere free from snobbery or pretense. I didn't experience any "lack of service" as the video claims... all of my waiters, bar tenders, cashiers, and ushers were polite and professional.

I love Krakow, have visited several times over the years. Went to the factory museum not long after it opened - I was half expecting it to be a sanitised 'Schindler's list experience', but it was not... not by a long way. In fact I still think it was probably the best museum I've ever visited. (going back quite a few years now, hopefully it's still good! )

Its still Amazing! Though if you ever return to Poland the Jewish Museum in the Warsaw Ghetto might be the best in the world. For me though the 2 best history museums worldwide are in Gdansk - the "old"solidarity centre telling of the break down of communism in Europe and the new 2nd world war museum (after all world war 2 started there officially). All 3 you can spend a day in.
@cijmo
@cijmo 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. Oskar's presence is still very much there but there's just so much more than that. One of the things people need to remember though is that it was a factory and not meant to be a museum. So, the hallways are 'office width', the exhibit rooms were just offices and it's not a modern thing with interactive or anything for kids to do. It's a lot of reading and the kids were bored running up and down the halls. Not ideal for kids but adults shouldn't miss it.

When my friends and I visited it was dark and pouring rain and were the only tourists there. We had some amazing food and had a great time trying some local vodka while playing cards. Regarding Wieliczka - Salt Mine and Auschwitz, keep in mind that these two places are more like a day trip. Don't expect US style of service in restaurants or shops. For many Polish such style is annoying. Here is how it works: I go to a shop for buying, not for chatting. If I need help I'll ask. I go to a restaurant to eat and have good time with those I go with, not to talk to a waiter every 5 minutes. If I need help (or anything) from the waiter I'll ask.

Saw one of your other videos on Connecticut. Thought you were from here and made CT videos. Useful video though, I am going to Poland for two weeks in May. We didn't plan accordingly though as the original plan was to spend a week in Krakow and then a week in Gdansk, but since we are flying both in and out of Krakow we are going to be renting a car and driving up to Gdansk for the first week (cheaper and faster than train, I drive for a living so it's no big deal) and then back to Krakow. I can't wait. Just hoping COVID doesn't get in the way somehow. Had a trip to Seoul, Korea paid for last May and had to cancel. I love cities like this, old and traditional architecture. Similar to when I went to Sicily in the military, even the smallest of churches had the most incredible architecture and interior design.

Krakow was amazing, me and my wife went for a city break. We did the tourist thing a little we visited Auschwitz and the salt mines, the auschwitz don't of yours with the tour I wish we hadn't done the tour as there was buildings and things we didn't see, felt like we only saw a fraction of the place. Perhaps its worth saying about respect at auschwitz as it annoyed me with tourists selfie's and posing for photos on auschwitz front gate doing the i'm a celebrity get me out of here thing. People should respect that place. I also went for the beer, I found three great drinking places for real ale and craft beer - House Of Beer, Poli Pub and Omertà pub, which I cant recommend enough. I cant remember the names of two food places but we found a great pizza place near the jewish quarter and a burger place near the schindler museum. (I personally didn't enjoy the schindler museum but I am only one person with one opinion don't let me put you off) One last recommend - The Pinball museum, a whole place of pinball and arcade, its great. I am off back when restrictions ease :) Dont do what I did in the airport - Forgot to put my asthma inhaler in a clear bag, got frisked by a bloke that towered above me, bearing in mind i am 6ft 4 with a substantial build, this airport guy made me feel small

You should do a video where you get a scratch map and you scratch off all the places you’ve been to! It would be cool to see especially since you have been to so many places, and it might be good to do it now since it’s hard to travel and make all your normal videos! Just an idea!

I was there for New Years a few years back and loved it. If I may add: Don't expect Uber to pick you up around the main square. I had to call for one around the square because there is WiFi there, but the Uber couldn't pull up near the square itself. I had to go a couple blocks out, and fortunately I found wifi at a random cafe and made it to the airport in time. Another Don't for Poland in general: Don't forget about the Polish holidays. I called for an Uber in Warsaw to take me to the train station, and it was on Epiphany. I knew about the holiday, but I didn't realize just how massively crowded it gets. bumper-to-bumper cars and virtually no moving in the old town center. I made it to the train station with literally seconds to spare. It was fun in retrospect! Haha

Krakow, New York, Rethymnon, Las Vegas would be my top holiday destinations. Krakow the first by a significant enough margin for it to require no thinking if I had to choose.

Go to Krakow, heck even Las Vegas is better than New York City. It is cold, wet, expensive, people are rude, crime has skyrocketed to 1980s levels there, "peaceful protests" like over the summer may break out again and on and on.

I was sceptical at first, I am Polish and lived in Kraków for 4 years, went to high school there and studied also so Kraków always been in my life. I have two comments ;) There are 2 salt mines outside of Kraków, Bochnia and Wieliczka, I reccommend visiting the first one if you want something more adventurous, Wieliczka is very touristy. Also Auchwitz-Birkenau camp is in Oświęcim 1-1.5 hr from Kraków, you can buy a tour to go there or just take a bus from bus station( buses go directly to the museum).

There are scammers waiting at the train station at Auschwitz ( oświencim) wanting to charge you 30 PLN for 1.2KM ride from the train stadion to the concentratuon camp. Bus Is only 4 PLN when i was there 8 years ago. To just have to do around and get on the right bus.

Perhaps he meant largest MEDIEVAL square in Europe. When you think of it, it really is not that big a deal to build larger and larger squares just to beat the record. Having a historic structure though is a complete other story.

I just got back from Krakow, and I have another tip: Be careful about walking on the cobblestone streets! Your feet will pay the price if you don't have a good pair of shoes and walk on the cobblestones too much. By the end of my visit, I could barely walk because my feet were in so much pain, but I probably could have done less damage to my feet if I had brought better walking shoes and tried to stay off the cobblestones more.
