This Amanda really makes me mad. My daughter's best friend was 2 months pregnant last year when she found out she had throat cancer. She had to carry her son while actually getting treatment. She delivered a beautiful baby boy and then lost all her hair. Her throat was swollen and her appearance changed dramatically. I saw her suffering. She never had a fundraiser. She never asked for money. She worked while pregnant with cancer!!!. Family and friends made meals and gave her a baby shower and thats all she would accept. She's doing well so far and her baby is fine that we know of. So this story angers me so much because many of us who have loved ones with cancer understand the true suffering they go through.

I feel so badly for your friend, and yet, I also admire her based on what you've shared with us about her. I sincerely wish her the best health yet, and for you as well! You sound like such a kind and understanding person to have such concern for this friend of your daughter's.

Hi Nate. This exact same thing is happening here in New Zealand at the moment. A 30/40 aged woman , married with children, has been telling friends and family that she has Cancer. And at the same time she has ripped off her employer (The Christchurch Rugby Club) over $100,000 NZ and they've absconded to England where the Police have caught up with her. The rugby club have somehow recouped the money and she will now have to face the Court system once she's brought back to NZ.

this is crazy. what's really crazy is my friends mom lied about this too when I was 12, her mom had us help her shave her head. was traumatizing, everything. Had us sitting outside a hospital for hours while she "got her treatments." I could go on and on.
@bribach
@bribach 6 ай бұрын
@bobbicatt I know! I remember it was really hot and we just sat outside her car. I didn't feel like I could say anything bc her mom would be hysterical, then made us cry. My mom even took both girls home with us often, bc her mom was "going through a lot". There's so much more she lied about. The port, all the things. Just recently I found out it wasn't all true and I felt that at a point as a teen. She even went as far saying at a benefit, John Michael mcgommery met her and they were having an affair. I was like alright... this is weird. Said she met all these celebrities.

I am a 75 yr. old, 13 year cancer survivor, and was fortunate enough to have excellent medical coverage through my husband’s employer at the time of my diagnosis and treatment. Here is my takeaway on the subject of this scam. If the United States had a health care system wherein patients didn’t need to plead for money for their treatments and medications, this type of scam would not exist. It is very touching to consider the good people who provided actual money to this scam artists. And heartbreaking to hear about genuine cancer patients who desperately need help with their medical cost. Of course, people with kind hearts wanted to help a young mother in a serious health crisis. But it is, sadly, a case of “buyer beware;” because if you fall for the scam and give financial support, you are literally, unknowingly, buying into the scam. I do hope there was a condition of her sentence requiring her AND her husband, to make reparations of some sort. A much better way to support cancer patients is to leave a gift in your Family Trust/Will to a reputable not-for-profit organization that is noted for doing research and/or providing services to patients in need. My husband and I have both lost young family members to leukemia, and my dear mother died from lymphoma and colon cancer. My husband and I are far from wealthy, but we have named the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in our estate planning. The other way for all of us to help patients in any kind of health crisis, including ourselves and our own loved ones, is to stop voting into political office those who will not represent their constituents in the matter as crucial as health care costs. A significant percentage of bankruptcies filed in the U.S. are because of outrageous medical bills. Our so-called “health care system” should be the number one concern of those representing us in DC. Find out who of our representatives have their hands dripping with dirty money from the medical insurance lobbyists, then vote them out!

(Actually, we shouldn’t NEED to ask for $$ to pay for healthcare (unfortunately, we do!). However, the “Amanda” story will prompt you to ask for receipts before you hand over $$cash to pay those “out of pocket” expenses for some supposedly sick person again OR to set up a gofundme for anyone- even for that sweet old lady from church🤨
