Great catch spotting this as a fake Japanese strat. I own a 92-93 fender Japanese 60’s reissue I bought new and love it!!! The logos on this one looked horrible and the pick guard is just as bad. Mine doesn’t have the hum bucket routes and the serial number is on the heel. Anyway, great video can’t wait to see more.

I have seen a bunch of MIJ mustangs and Jaguars and yes the serial number is on heal. Usually no skunk stripe either. Body finish on this one does not look as nice as MIJ.

I just bought a 2000 korean epiphone les paul in a Tim Horton parking lot in Rockland on the weekend. Best damn guitar i ever played and i have usa wolfgangs and les paul standards! This epi resonates when not plugged in. Lots of mojo! All electronics were upgraded and grover tuners installed. I do all my own luthier work so i know what to look for when checking guitars out.

I know you touch on this in some parts of the channel but I'm really in need of a good tutorial on headstock finishing. Specifically sanding whilst painting and clear coating a headstock. I'm looking for specifics. What kind of sand paper, wet or dry sanding and finally how to polish. I can't find a video where somebody shows you how to polish. They just show you the headstock once it's done and say "it's polished". I need to know specifically how to do it.

The backplate grounding is quite similar to my 2012 CV60s strat. My bet is that is a Vintage Modified or CV body and an affinity or bullet neck. Based on the finish

it does seem like Japanese style sunburst with the pointy red,it has like you said after market parts,but they are good- great parts,wish I could feel it and know what exact wood it is,and how the fret edges are etc...etc...maybe fake fender,but it's a real something.

Do you think the person who sold it might have not even known. Maybe he did not take all that apart to even see. ….I’m learning guitar I bought a used Kirk Hammett guitar being I don’t know the real of it I took it to a guitar store I know a guy I asked him he looked at it and said it’s legit how much did you pay I said under 200 he said you got a steal I said eBay bid I guess I waited and bidded right. I got a 3000 price guitar. My friend said he’d give me a trade for it. But I like it to much.

I agree this is a possibility for sure. However, somewhere down the line someone DID know. So while it may not be the person you got it from who is trying to screw you over, and just thinks it is what it says it is, I doubt it. Somewhere down the line, either the person who created it, or the person he then sold it to, knew. You know what I'm saying? I allow for the possibility that it may not be the last guy, but if I knew where he was, I'd go back and ask for a trade back. If he was just a cool guy, he'd answer his text messages about the authenticity of this guitar. You know what I mean? It's definitely this dude, but I allow for the possibility of what you said.

Great find!! Enjoy your lovely guitar! Is yours the "target" one with the circles? Prices seem to be all over the place... I have seen a Custom 57 Champ amp sold for about $700, practically brand new. The supply chain situation is not helping with Alnico speakers for one thing.

Edited to add, Good lord, $1100 US!! May be an invoice for all that if they were all brand new would just about make sense full retail; $500 US as they are seems fairer. The truss rod adjustment plug and the string trees look not-Fendery. I am looking at this from a phone and in black-white. It could be a good guitar but the fakery is really not cool. The second one with the spaghetti logo is dodgy. The heel looks too square for a Strat. At this rate I might NEVER be buying another guitar from The Big F again, because fakes, and STIFF competition from G&L, MusicMan, and every brand out there that have a solid body, six-string electric guitar with a trem.

i had an 85 mij tele and the neck had rolled edges and evry detail was tip top. the electronics wer upgraded it was nice!

to add, no japanese fenders have that truss rod insert on the headstock, as well as different lacquers on the neck, body is not a MIJ either, the finish and routes dont match up, like you said the pickguard and everything on it is not MIJ, probably mexican or squier

Seen that grain pattern before. But not on a Fender, right? And the lacquer doesn't look right, either from the head to the neck.

The logo, for a personal guitar never to be sold or passed as a real article is one thing, but to add a serial number is crossing the line. That rosewood "supposed USA" neck has no walnut plug at the truss rod hole... dead giveaway it's FAKE!

That's why everyone who shows their guitars in public media always hide it's serial number (or should do that); there's a lot of people digging all around everywhere to catch real serial numbers to make better cloned counter faith guitars.

Those pickups look identical to the ones I just took out of my 98 fender strat MIM so I would guess mexican pickups. In case anyone is wondering I put in some fender tex-mex pickups nice inexpensive upgrade for a guitar I've had for 24 years.

When you buy a Fender (american, mexican or any) you can contact them with your serial number to confirm it's authenticity part by part, it's what I've done when I bought mine, even though I bought a new one in a official guitar center. it's not so easy to scam people with Fenders really.

Looks like a bad cat build kit but its not because a bad kid build has no plastic in the truss rod cover just a empty hole in the wood in the headstock the pickup cavities have been rounded out as well and if it were a new guitar from fender most likely yes it would have two open humbucker cavities for the bridge and neck but you can clearly see that has been hand dremeled out and also see what's under the copper shielding to see if the tar like substance that its been coated in there? Possibly a Squier though but heck anybody's guess nowadays. Just my hypothesis.

I have no problems with Partscasters, selling them as actual Fenders is sick. I built my own "Telecaster" to my own specs and like better than an actual stock Tele.

Same, i built my own telecaster too over a year and it is what it is. Tbh by the time i was done it cost me more than a new mex tele in parts.
