Gotta say that the Philippines looks awful. Everything is dilapidated and dirty ... I would not want to be there, even for a minute ... not to mention its too hot there! They get typhoons once or twice a year adding to the misery. In 2018 I rode my tour bike up from Saigon, headed to Nanning and Chengdu. I think the Phils sucks too. But they are all nice hard working people in Canada, many in hospitals and elderly care.

This is only low level scamming. Still amateurish or short sighted one, easier to deal with. Higher level scamming would have you deeply invested already then they go for the "kill". Anyhow, they exploit the gweilos as the gweilos exploit them. Shouldn't complain because it works both ways. It's transactional. One wants hot experience, young partners they usually cannot get in their home countries , illusion of perfect relationship while the other wants to escape poverty, have a "Western" qol and out of the rut and misery. As long as you know this is the reality and remain level headed, you won't be scammed. It's not my endorsement of anything , just a description of hard realities

Front fork locks are usually easy to break, Get a chain and a disc detainer key padlock....still easy to pick but requires special tools. Another thing I have done on new bikes is to put masking tape on the gas tank and covers and then do a really bad job of spray painting them, They even make paint that's supposed to look like rust. And if you ever want to sell it, peel off the masking tape.
