This is the coolest commercial truck ever. Very clever engineering in a practical package.

I used to see lots of these when I was a child, all working local deliveries. This one was a gem, nicely kept.

Great video, thank you for uploading! I love these lorries. The one which you captured in Malta is of the slightly more unusual version having twin headlamps. Most were produced with one lamp, housed within the Scammell triangular badge.

Glad you enjoyed it

Drove one of these at Hodgsons Tannery in Beverley, so easy to disconnect one trailer and pick up another.

I used to see lots of them running in and out of the goods yard at Romford railway station. Thank you for watching.

I almost didn't watch this vid because the thumbnail picture made it appear to be just another truck, but upon viewing, I am very glad I did watch, it is a very charming vehicle indeed! It seems a damn shame that Lesney did not capture a Scammell Scarab in miniature, I would have loved to have gawked at it in the display case at my local hobby shop! Sweet machine, nice 'get'' Harry

Oh, this is 'old'. For what they were intended, they were very good. Short trip workings, and designed such that they could turn in very confined spaces.

The trailer most certainly is, but the tractors were once a very common sight in our towns and cities, often painted yellow, running in and out of railway yards.

They were excellent for local deliveries in and out of tight yards.

I had a look, Corgi and Oxford both made die-cast examples of the Scarab which may be why Lesney didn't! Mechanical horse they called it, very quaint, I like it a lot and am glad this one is soldiering on!

No the Lesney version was much earlier and to a smaller scale. Bachmann produced some too in the late 90s I think.. There were 0 Gauge versions too but I'm not sure of the manufacturer(s) - maybe Crescent Toys or Budgie Toys or both.

Lesley made two versions upon two slightly differing scales - No's 10A and 10B. Yes, Budgie made a model of this, as did Crescent. The Crescent model was really, really excellent, as it was able to replicate a working representation of the Scarab's coupling mechanism. Crescent produced three trailers; an open-back, a petrol tanker and a low-loader complete with reversible winch. A third manufacturer upon this scale (OO) was Bembros Zebra toys. We are fortunate to have all of the models to which I refer in our collection. @@99ize18

It looks like it must be a vintage vehicle? Nice lines to it.

They were produced until about 1973. From the the late 60s they were updated with a plastic 'modern' cab designed by Michelotti

These are wonderful 'local delivery' trucks, they can turn in their own length, and once were very common.

I can't remember which company makes them, but I have seen models of these, mainly in the old British Railways colours.
