SCAMP CONs: Things that we don't love about having and traveling with our 13 foot Scamp trailer!

We have had our Scamp Fanny now for about a year and during that time we have taken several scamping trips both long and short. After this time we have determined that we made a great choice and that the Scamp is the right camper for us at this time in our lives. However, there are some things that we do not love about the Scamp quite so much. In this video we discuss some of our less favorite aspects about Scamps!

Love traveling solo with my 92lb. dog who sleeps on the couch or under table. 13’ works just fine. Pros beat cons hands down. 😉 There’s a Scamp rally in Backus MN IN July ‘22.

I completely agree, the pros definitely outweigh the cons by a long shot! 13' seems to be the perfect size for us as well. I would love to hit up the rally this year, but between my work schedule and the other trips we have planned I just don't think that we could make that work. We are in VA, so it is a bit of a hike for us to get there. Are you planning on going?

Sadly, gas prices put a damper on any extra camping. Saving up for a winter trip to the west coast.

We had a pop up and enjoyed it, light weight is great. Set up is a pain especially if it is storming. Living in Fl with a pop up is not ideal for mildew issues. Then had a tear drop run a way, crawling in and out we are older now is not idea. We loved it and was fun to travel with. We just brought a burro, and she needs renovated. Has all the original lights and fixtures including the book. I love the fiberglass and once ours is painted and put back together she will be great to travel with. It is like a small tear drop but with standing room and a place other than the bed to sit.

Thanks for the tip about lower travel speed. I need to look into that aspect for the Scamp and other similar small trailers. Also took to heart the fact it's lumped with all larger RVs for site placement. Thanks for the tips.

I have a 19’ one and pulled it up to 85 mph on I-20.

a lot of travel trailers come with tires rated to 62 MPH . Manufacturers trying to save a few bucks with cheaper tires

I had to think pretty hard to figure out the cons, nothing major really. For us at least, it all depends on what you need and what you like.

We recently made the Deposit and Orderd Scamp 19A ....Official word is like Mid 20204 ...however Scamp just broke ground on a new section a the factory to" Improve Production and Quality" ...hoping this will shave time off and maybe we can recive the 19A like late 2023 ...Thanks for the Video ...Cheers

Honestly I think they are way overprice. Especially when a few years ago the 13ft basic cost 14 grand.

Why only 60? Is it unsteady? That might be loading or hitch height. We had the same issue with our 16 until I changed the hitch and added an anti-sway connector. You don’t need the fancy ones, mine is a Reese that I installed myself.

Whaaaaat? Yeah, if you hear of one happening let me know. We actually ordered the new one before we got the used. We may decide to cancel our order yet as it gets closer, but so far we haven't. Big part of the reason is the recent jump in price means that we've got a pretty good deal locked in that we'll never see again.

@@scampslikeusva1958 I hear ya. I paid about $25,000 for my 16 ft layout 6 with a bunch of add-ons. The base price was just over 20k. Now the base price is over $25k, with all the extras I got mine, today it would have been over $30k with a 2 year wait. Whhaaaaat?! 😂.

I just picked up a 2022 13' and mine with all the options I added is LESS than the base price 13 now.

We can pull our 16’ Casita at 70 mph no problem. I’d rather do 55-60 though, save gas and traveling isn’t supposed to be to make time. 🥚 🍳 🌭😎 P.S. Driving at 55 mph versus 60 mph is a 8% savings on fuel, 55 versus 70 is 28% !! SLOW DOWN, RELAX AND LIVE BETTER! 😂🤣🌮🍔 ⛽️

You must be taking extraordinarily long trips, if it takes days longer at 60 mph. A two thousand mile drive at constant 60 mph takes 26 hours and 40 minutes. The same trip at 75 mph will take 33 hours and 20 minutes, a savings of only six hours and 40 minutes and a substantial increase in fuel cost.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. You're right, we do take long trips and that's when the speed becomes a factor. We've done a couple of trips over the last 2 years totaling 5-6K miles each. With the Scamp it's taken us 3 days to cover distances that I've done multiple times in 2 days. So I'm not speculating, it's my observation.

@@smallnuts2 It seems as though the wait time has maybe shortened a bit in recent months? At least that's the impression I seem to be getting from what I'm reading lately, many folks are getting theirs a bit earlier than expected. So who knows, maybe when you order you won't have to wait so long!

The standard graphics on the side of the Scamp are hideous. They make it look like it’s straight out of the 70s. Even the new Scamps look dated.

Nah, I don't think so. I'm very happy with the Scamp, in fact we love it. I wanted to talk about some of the less positive aspects just to be fair and show both sides of the coin, but the fact is that in my mind the positives far outweigh the negatives.
