Well we finally did it after two years of owning a Scamp camper we finally found some time to get up the Scamp factory and take the tour. We also brought along Scampy our 2006 16' Scamp camper and had a much needed repair done and did some upgrades to give us total off grid living. Check back soon for the follow-up video on our upgrades.
If you're liking what you see hit that subscribe button and give us a thumbs up. We put out a new Video every 10-14 days.
And check out our Facebook and twitter page for other cool stuff not found on our channel. @ourscamplife Facebook/ourscamplife

Good video. Just finished getting my 16 footer ready for a Montana hunt. Packed the wheel bearings and gave it a thorough inspection. After quite a few trips to the west coast and here in the mid-west the only thing I found is next year I'll replace the brake assembly (Including the backing plate. Doing that is almost as inexpensive as replacing just the shoes.). Earlier this year I installed a Dickinson Newport heater to eliminate the electrical energy consumptive Suburban heater and a few days ago rigged it to hook up to a new 100W Renogy solar panel. The panel works well and was easy to set up. I think it's ready for some serious boondocking. New tires last year - Load Range D Carlisles. Early in it's history with me I had to replace and glue in a couple of screws that backed but that's been about it. A 1999 and still going strong. If I were to sell it I'd ask for and wouldn't accept less than 1K more than what I paid for over 12 years ago. I do like the 19 footer but am really comfortable in this one. A second home with a different beautiful view any time I want it. I'll hang on to it. Keep on Scampin"!

Great video guys. I just bought an old '75 that's needed a ton of work. Over 4 weekends and evenings now we have: gutted out the original carpet, put Kilz on almost every surface, made new curtains, built a new table, built/painted all new cabinet doors, repaired the hole in the floor where the water tank used to be, added a MaxAir fan, added an electric plug outlet (Noco), laid new flooring and trim...it's exausting thinking about it all but it's a ton of fun! It's now "camp ready" but still want to do more. I have all the parts to fix the sagging door. The scamp parts department is fantastic for this stuff.

Oh Scamp, how I love you, but so wish they would come up with a better solution than using Chipboard for the floors and support ribs. The number one fail point as the Egg gets older. Supply is definitely catching up with demand. Wait times are now just a few months, and resale values on used models are falling fast. The main cause is the heavy annual price increases in recent years and much more competition in the "Molded" world. Airstream came out with the "Nest", and Escape is pumping out more trailers and when you factor in the insanely good US to Canadian exchange rate, the best "Value" in all of the RV industry. Casita has done some recent interior updates with more modern themes. The Tab 400 took a bunch of sales away from Scamp, and Tab is bringing over the "Barefoot" from the UK (very cool), Bigfoot continues to expand to more US dealers. Add in low gas prices, and all these things are bad news for Scamp. With prices in the $22-23k range for a well/moderately equipped 16' model and nearly $15 for a basic Layout 1 13', it's just not as good of a value as it once was. Yes, they are offering new jacks/supports on the rear, but here are a few other changes they have introduced over the last few months on new models - Price increase of $300-500 across the board on new orders (Depending on model & trim). NO MORE Rear Cabinet option, on the 13' anyway (still listed on the most recent price sheet, option not actually available for order. Apparently too much confusion with adding the rear cabinet, fan, and AC/Prep (can't get all three of these), so it's simply no longer an option. All Side Cabinets are Now Standard with Option Packages (used to be optional), Front Cabinet is Now Optional. Vinyl Floor is Now Standard on All Models (vs Carpet). One 12V Plug is Now Standard on all models, and each additional is still $30. Receiver Hitch is Now Standard on all models (was optional). Gravel Shield & Silverware Drawer is Standard on all models with Option Packages. LED Lighting is now Standard on all models. Individual Options for each layout had a price increase of between $0-$100. Only option with a Price Decrease was the "Trailer Cover" (for 13")

Waiting time is currently at 20 months. Definitely worth waiting for IMHO. I agree with you on the chipboard. They could use a Corrugated Aluminum sheet or something instead - not too expensive, but drastically improves the life.

We picked up our new 13 foot Scamp about a month ago, and have done a "test run" in our driveway. Heading out in a couple of weeks to a nearby state park. The factory is about 25 miles from my house, so I had to chuckle with your initial pronunciation of the town's name, and was happy to hear you did get it right. Happy Scamping!

Thank you for the video. We evidently we bought our 16' about the same time as you did and have also made changes. After attending a rally in TN, we opted to add the extra set of tail lights seeing the safety value. The Eveland folks put them in and its not even noteable that they were add-ons. Ah yes, the price was reasonable. The new door lock system is something I wish we could. Heading up to Bemidji, then Itasca later this week. May stop and inquire if still possible. Hi ! Nice video .... My husband & I HAD a regular 5th wheel but had to get rid of the truck that hauled it do to to much engine issues ! So now we have an SUV (07'Acadia) and have a small pop up ! BUT the pop up has been around since 86' and has seen it's better days -if you know what I mean !! We won't have her to many more camp seasons .... As we live in Michigan and we have the SAME 2 seasons as yoi all - winter & construction , lol ! Anyway , with our pop up we are in a dilemma .... Won't last much longer but still need something light weight ! I've been doing research on fiber glass campers and so far I've only liked the Scamp !! Only issue we have , is we don't have it in our budget to go New ! We really like the 16ft as most of the time it's just us 2 .... With the addition of a small grandkid once in a while ! Sse we aren't really sure how to go about getting one used except for the usual on line sale of some sort ! And I'm sure it's going to be a feat to get hold of one we can afford !
@ourscamplife5210

Yes we really didnt want to go with a popup either. It took us about a year of looking to find a good used Scamp at a good price, but we ended up finding ours on ebay of all places. Craigslist is also a good spot to look. Be patient one will come along.

Thanks ! If we don't end up going with a larger truck/van of some sort , we obviously have to stick with something light and the Scamp seems to be the answer for that as they seem to be the lightest out there for hard side campers !

Having owned 8 stick rvs, the most prominent reason people seem to play up about molded fiberglass rvs is that they don't leak. That is a myth. Any RV with sealant on anything on the outside has potential for leaks unless the seal is maintained. Yes, a stick trailer has more to leak if not maintained, therefore, more maintenance to prevent leaks but molded fiberglass rvs can leak at the belly band, the windows, the vents, any area that has been sealed and not maintained.

Are you at all concerned with a wood bottom? I know they put some sealant on but road debris and critters happen and the whole point of a fiberglass trailer is waterproof longevity. Would like to get one but it kinda seems half baked. idk

New Subscriber here!! Hiya! Really enjoyed this video...at this point I am a SCAMP dreamer I guess you would say. I am hoping to have one by the Spring of 2021. The factory is VERY interesting. I love the life-size SCAMP on top of the pole. So cute! I am wondering if they make little SCAMP toys! If they don't they should think about it. Kids would LOVE them, especially if they belong to a SCAMP family! Well, I will wrap up my long comment by saying, I am looking forward to buying a SCAMP to be ready in the Spring if 2021, and the first meal I am going to prepare in it? SHRIMP SCAMPI, of course!!

*I was really upset to see 'OSB chip-wood' used on the flooring!* *It should be 'Marine-Grade' plywood treated w/the special paint that repels water like 'Airstream' uses* *I did like seeing the 'Box-rail' frames in the lot, which are much stronger and resist 'torquing' and 'racking' that standard 'L-shape' rails are subject to...and I see the '2020' models now have modern cabinet-doors in 'gloss-grey' that really upgrade the appearance and reduction of 'squeak' factor from hinges on wood cabinet-fronts while saving a lot on unnecessary weight* *I liked the 'dinky-sinky' in the shower!* *That way you can 'wash hands' while someone else is using the kitchen-sink for food prep or cooking...and a place to brush-teeth as well!* *If I'm 'boon-docking' the cassette-toilet is brilliant...I can always 'dig a hole/dump the reservoir tank/fill the hole' instead of driving to a dump-station or looking for a public-toilet where there isn't one for 20-miles!*

1:56 That is Cool. They have a Fifth Wheel Version?, Nice. 🤑 8:31 A job like this could be done by 3D Printing. The frames could all be done by one while the top and bottom could be done by another one. Someone would just assemble the parts together like the cabinets and other things like that could be made using a different 3D Printer. This way you don't have the cost of the molds and the same printer could print out the pieces without the cutting out of the doors and windows which is wasting product and the time to cut out the parts. A 3D printer would just form the parts in one swoop and you could have more of these made in less time. They could be customlly designed where you would have to make a special mold for a custom job. You could even with 3D Printing put any picture/paint job on the inside and outside with this same technology. 10:41 If they can 3D Print they could use lighter and stronger materials to make these trailers lighter and thus the smaller cars can pull them. These trailers are cool.

I don't think you can 3D print out of fiberglass but if you could that would be awesome! Though I'm sure the machines would be well beyond a cost friendly camper version. But if it was possible that would be cool! Thanks

Way slow on their production.....only 1.6 trailers completed per day with 50 employees. On average, 270 work days in a year and 425 trailers made = 1.57 trailers per day.. Seems to me like they need to ramp up production times. If you can't produce enough for demand, why wouldn't you work two shifts per day and double the amount of product to the buyers? That would be like Ford only completing 100 trucks per day.
