A local Kenyan just told me that he himself would never take the taxi from the airport (just Uber) and that the most expensive bus trip from the farthest part of town to the city center of Nairobi is 150 KES. She scammed you because you were the only person in the bus. If other local passengers were aboard, they'd never let you get scammed like so. Sorry for that experience

Im kenyan and i feel ashamed....the bus to town is 50kshs and a uber from airport to town is usually 450kshs(4.50$) sorry you had to go through that

I'm a local and I'd never take the bus from the airport... the hustle just isn't worth it. Call an Uber or a Little Cab (also a taxi app) and save yourself the hustle. You might also want to consider getting a local to show you around.. perhaps one of your neighbours at your apartment..

As a visitor I'd advise you if you don't have a local guide just use a cub until you get familiar with the Kenyan street you can start moving about with matatus.

You end up the wrong side of Nairobi your belongings, including your camera and memoirs will find an unsolicited porter who'll turn into a salesman for the same to some lucky buyer in a bumper deal, hoping you are not harmed in the process

Scamming people is a norm in Nairobi. Not only foreign nationals get scammed, but locals too. Nairobi is a dangerous city for all unsuspecting newcomers and I wish the government would do something to curb this by making it a serious criminal offense.

You should download the app Pickaboo, it shows how much the rides are, so you are never overcharged again and you can pay online if you want and book a seat

Oh you make me miss Africa so much. I find myself trying to imagine the depth of history and culture, sacrifice, triumphs and struggles of people as well... that created the powerful city of Nairobi. East Africa, almost all of the earliest skeletal remains of our human ancestors are found in this area of the world and nowhere else.... It is in the adventure and uncertainties of the journey, the beautiful chaos of it all that makes life worth living. 👍 Thanks for taking us there Michele.

It's like he hired the bus😟🤣🤣 Common sense -there's free wifi at the airport, just download a taxi app and request a ride to your destination to avoid embarrassing yourself -it's crazy cheap; cheaper than the cost on your first bus.

I am a Kenyan living in the states and I applaud you for your confidence! I hate big cities especially if I do not speak the language! It’s a shame that people just feel they have to take advantage of others and do not even have a conscience!This was embarrassing to watch! Buses (matatus) are kes 50 normally. The fancy ones will charge kes 80. Advice.. always keep a kes 100 note on the matatus. If you are not from here people will try to get extra from you

I'm very much looking forwards to these videos. Be safe! I would always keep a small amount of cash with me in case someone tries to rob you. That way hopefully they will be happy with the little cash instead of making things worse or having to hand of your camera or phone.

He is in Africa now and it is an amazing experience and he can share his amazing adventures with his future children and grand kids. The taxis at the Nairobi airport ask 2000 ksh too the city center. The airport bus is only 80 ksh.

Woah, that bus ride was a bit sketchy when they quickly jumped the price from 200 to 500 with some bogus reason, haha. Then where the first bus dropped you off was bit disconcerting. But you eventually got to your apartment so that is considered a success!

The new Nairobi commuter Rail (Metro) just started. 5 lines. It would be nice too see a video of you using the new metro. All start from the old Nairobi railway station in downtown Nairobi. 50-100 Ksh. The metro train going too Embakasi station now has a connecting bus too the Nairobi Airport. There is also a train from the old city city center railway station going too the new train station for Mombasa. The fare is 50 Ksh.

@@MichelePonte It's not about race or salary. In life I feel as though there are things it is sometimes worth paying for, what you saved in money you paid for in time and comfort. Heck, I'd pay an extra dollar to have a bit more of an easing into a place I've never been before, especially if I was not a well seasoned traveller and it was out of my comfort zone. But good on you for not letting this sour the rest of your experience, live, learn and move on. Kenya and East Africa is stunning and in many parts a full on vibe; enjoy it.
