Brian shows you the most powerful principle in magic! It requires a little DIY work, but once you learn how to make this prop yourself, you can use it for almost any card effect you want. Careful, you'll need a ventilated area, a light touch, and enough table space for all that free beer.

Best deck ever. I emphasize the "invisible deck" name. I reach into my pocket and come up with nothing, but tell my participant that it's an invisible deck of cards. I make a big deal out of pulling it out of the box, spreading it out, and asking them to draw a card. Sometimes I'll even say, "Oops, you got two, put one back." Then I have them "look" at it, turn it upside down and put it back when I've got my eyes closed. I don't want to see it after all. =) Then I hand the "deck" to another person and ask them to shuffle it. They always feel like a goof shuffling cards that aren't there, but it's always fun. Then I put the deck back into my pocket, speak the magic word, and pull the real deck out. When the card they name is the one that's upside down, I always get a free beer. Thanks, Shwood!

Josh Richardon - The original, and technically correct name for this deck is the Ultramental deck, and it was created by Joe Berg in 1936. The "Invisible Deck" presentation, which is the presentation you used, was created by J.B. Bobo. That later became what lots of people call this deck. Some people state Eddie Fields created, or others, created the "invisible deck" presentation, but Bobo was first.

Failure Story: I just made my first attempt to do this trick on my family (I normally practice on them first). I completely botched up my performance, due to a lack of experience performing this trick on a live audience. Thought I had the process down, but I got nervous lost my train of thought. When attempting to establish this was a standard deck, one of my family members got suspicious and asked to view the deck. It would have passed inspection by shear luck since they didn't spread the cards to notice the cards were doubled together, however, one of them noticed the back and front of the deck were face up cards. Due to the growing suspicion I gave up and ended my "performance" stating I screwed up. Lessons learned: 1) Rehearse the showmanship part, 2) A duplicate deck should be used to establish credibility that the deck is ordinarily, then switched before the start of this trick, and 3) This trick would work better as a closer to card tricks

From experience: I usually don't mention the fact that a deck is "regular" or "normal" in any way. Even trying to emphasize the fact a gaff deck is "normal" can be quite suspicious. For example, saying, "I have here a completely ordinary deck of cards" is one of the worst ways to start off a trick. Mentioning the fact that you are "using a deck of cards for this effect" will be so much more sufficient, and safer.

+SciGuy Brian Brushwood has a video that mentions how to deal with skeptical magic trick viewers. He said something like, they don't want to appreciate the illusion, instead they want to ruin it and those are not people who you want to perform for. I guess another option, is to say something to get them to commit to not trying to ruin the illusion, such as "would you like to see a magic trick?" and they say yes and you say "okay, well in this magic trick, I am going to use my body language and gestures and careful wording, to get you to tell me something and I will show you that I have already chosen it ahead of time. However, because of this being such a delicate process, you are going to need to only answer my questions directly, without saying anything else because it will cause you to change to a different card." something to where they can't ask you questions and they can't take your cards from you. Also, practicing a skill, can improve your performance, just like the first time you get on a 2 wheel bike, you fall off instead of winning a race. Try using a mirror or recording yourself with a video camera, like a smartphone. Also, practicing your routine on the same person, may be able to help you re-word things and prevent accidents and then they can watch as you try the trick on a new person and maybe even offer help with using the proper words if you stumble or forget.

I do card tricks randomly at my school. I learn them from people here on KZbin. Here's a fun fact, out of the millions of hits on each video, I meet maybe one person at school that knows how it is done. Even more fun, they still love the method I use for the tricks. Even when they know how it is done, it doesn't ever ruin anything. Heck, I revealed one trick and then did it again a month later and only two people remembered how it was done. The rest knew maybe a step or something.

Got my Invisible deck last week from Scam Stuff! Thought of a cool implication for it, rather than having them verbally say their card. Have them write it on a napkin/paper writing up "so it can touch the deck" then tap the deck on the paper, and ask "did you hear that?" then go through the deck, to find the one they wrote has been flipped!

I'm currently filming this KZbin episode called Scam School where I teach people to use magic so that they can swindle free drinks out of others. Here's a big tip. Do you mind if we film in that corner over there tonight?...... Do a show for your daughter's sweet 16 in exchange?... Sure.... Great, thanks! whether or not a trick is revealed on this channel or someone who specializes in magic, it's still revealed. If anyone were to really want to learn a trick, i'm sure they could very well search for it and find their solution. even if an audience knows the mechanics of the trick, i would say that the showmanship and presentation of the trick is what keeps it exciting. There are many tricks revealed that magicians still use. it all depends on how you present it

This trick is so cool that I didn't even mind that there's an ad in the middle of it! I actually watched it! I tell ya, you gotta have a really good video before I'll watch the ad, and then actually consider buying something from them. Fortunately, since I can't remember the name of the company, I have to watch the video again, which is seriously cool, since I KNOW I want to see IT again, even though I'm not sure about the ad yet. Oh, well...

I have had this deck for years. After some time I have to replace the deck. You just saved me a lot of money. I never thought of making this deck. One thing I do is get two extra cards, one odd and one even. I place them at each end of the deck with the tops facing out. I take the deck out of the box and I take the extra card that would be the top out so the spectaters see the top, then turn it over to search for the selected card. I started doing this after flashing the wrong side of the deck.

Scam school on the other side is very popular and every person that wanna learn a new cool bar trick on the internet can easily find it. Ok, so Brain has revealed the key card technique, i'm sure I've seen a couple of card controls in there and all manner of sleights, and no one raises an eyebrow, BUT he dares to reveal the invisible deck and somehow he's suddenly breaking the magician's code. Even so, it does feel a little wrong, but it is a perfect trick for scamschool.

You know, generally, I love Scam School and have learned a lot from it. But I agree with Skyladikooo on this one. I think that the line has to be drawn somewhere. Revealing an iconic mystery like the ID is not "education." It is the indiscriminate tipping of what has been one the most closely guarded secrets in magic for decades. Brian, you are a magician, and should realize that it is one thing to teach a layman a cool trick they can do for their friends or at the bar, and another to reduce one of the GREATEST ICONIC mysteries we have ever had down to, "Oh look, ha, ha, it's just a trick deck." As a professional, who loves to astonish and entertain my audiences, I am saddened by this...

So what? Are you going to go to literature to figure out new tricks? Literature that literally everyone has access to? When 'Magic Books' became popular, everyone talked shit like you do about youtube. Is Brian trying to expose magicians? Is he trying to kill magic? No. He is trying to spread information for people who want to learn magic and have a passion for it.

Guys, I need to point something out to you people. Here's the thing about revealing these tricks: it doesn't actually ruin the trick. Not at all. Actually, in reality, even if people see it revealed they'll most likely forget it within a few weeks. Sometimes they even forget how exactly it is done even after seeing it a short amount of time before the trick was performed. On top of that, professional magicians do a lot of variants to tricks.

Allot of people cannot shop online, also, as Brian said, the actual principle of rough-and-smooth can be used for more than just playing cards

I've really enjoyed the rest of the serious, buddy. A fun, cool, series dedicated to scamming in a fun cool way. But this... This is just unconscionable. Congratulations. Now you're Valentino.

I'm a very happy subscriber, so please do not be offended when I say the following. I think marking the backs of your cards is a bad idea, because it gives the people an opportunity to ask to see the backs of other cards to be sure. It really doesn't add anything to show the X, but it can give you away when you refuse to show the backs of the other cards I already have an Invisible Deck, but thank you so much for showing me how to make my own, for much less than $25

I kinda hate the "invisible" plot and quit doing the trick. Thank God I remembered this video now I've been playing around with it trying to come up with new plots

Hey Brian, this idea for making an invisible deck is a very smart way to make one and its kinda for free. The sad thing is that I don't have that much card decks but I will buy an invisible deck or make one. I just don't want to use up my only 4 decks of cards and the other 4 I just got them. But again, very smart idea to do it that way. Thanks!

This enthralled and infuriated so many people when I pulled this trick. Great replay too, I pulled it 6 times in a row on a guy (his insistence) and he was blown away even more every single time.

Invisible deck is actually a pretty common and well-known trick and if you look it up around youtube you can see that they have already been revealed so it will not make any differences if Ryan revealed this trick.

I beat you can do the same thing using hair spray. It would be just tacky enough to stick cards together when wanted. It would work on the opposite principle where more pressure would stick the cards together and less pressure would let them slide apart. Gonna try it.

This trick should never be revealed, it's one of the best kept secrets in magic and now it's not so secret anymore, this trick gets great reactions and laymen will know how it's done. Revealing the Invisible Deck is something that you shouldn't do, ever.

what i love to do with an invisible deck is to put a joker on the even side that way when I pull out the deck the volunteer will see the red/blue back first. if it's odd, I turn over the pack which is normal. if it's even, I take off the joker and reveal the evens, then continue on.

Hi. Yes, it's Dec 2021. Yes, I'm 4 years late. And yes, its 0:42 am right now in my country. I do have a question though. How does your deck pass inspection if they're all evens or all odds? Isn't that the first thing a person will notice? Do you intentionally put the letter cards in between to break the pattern? Are they two decks stuck together? Thank you

Haha, great exposure Brian. Please reveal more top tricks like the chop cup (with a magnet in the top to hold the ball) or the double lift (he lifted two cards as one) the pass (to transpose the two halves of the deck) invisible thread (fine thread you can't see) used to levitate small objects or perform PK , the one ahead principle, black art , false cuts and shuffles, false transfer of one object from one hand to another.

For me whether it is gaffs or sleights it doesn't matter. The real secret is in the showmanship and the presentation. The method and the secret is almost irrelevant too. One can expose one method and then completely fool with another, or even the same one. Penn and Teller are masters of that. Whatever else you think of Brain you can't accuse him of not being a showman. That's what makes him a good magician and entertainer.

would a thumb spread of the card be too obvious? I gave the cards a light misting but still having trouble with getting the chosen card to release just from the fanning of the cards. I seem to get the chosen card with a small twitch of the thumb spreading the chosen card from the "indicator card"

I always have the evens facing the card case which says "Bicycle". The mnemonic being bicyclE ends in E and Evens begins with E. I also remember the red Kings being on the odd side by remembering reD and odD ending with D.

I saw the title, and I literally said aloud "Invisible deck!" Im actually a little sad this was revealed, because I use it all the time! It's a real classic of magic. But im glad you really thought well how to make it, because thats the difference between revealing the IV and teaching the IV.

How do I order them to get even more impressed than the last if I watch them in one go? It's so hard to pick the beginning of best although I've seen them, but I'd say this is by far my favorite. I love the way there are so many different ways the invisible deck gets used.
