What sort of information is provided when scanning a network and how would I prevent identifying information from being leaked? I understand using proxy chains, VPNs and Tor but that's usually for use when connecting to the web right? What about sitting offline somewhere sniffing traffic or nmapping a network? Should I use MAC randomizes, spoof hardware IDs etc?

When I scan the WiFi I just get few routers I don't get all that other stuff that you get also when your talking about arris what did you do next all I see is the arrow but what to do next I tried everything but did not get what to the area you were at

there is another wireless scan program you can install manually, it's called Zanti, some features requires root but you can only use a few tools

that sound at 11:26 on a subwoofer, I nearly jumped out of my skin! :D I'm trying to find a problem where I've got 2 iphones connected to a router and streaming data between them, getting disconnects and dropped packets even though they are the only 2 on the router... but in a busy environment with 100+ devices, any ideas how I could use Fing for that (traceroute?)... no internet connection, this is just Wifi over the LAN. as long as you're on a device connected on that local area network. You need to be recognized by dhcp to scan the network. If you have remote access but through your means of connecting you're getting assigned a local IP your good. I have two networks in my house, fing will save them on the drop menu at the top of the app, that said if I go to scan the first network but I am connected to the second network the ssid will change to the network I am on currently and I will get an nmap of the devices on that network. Hope this makes sense to you.

null-byte.wonderhowto.com/ ... A lot of people do not immediately associate the web site with this channel because they do not know about it. This site is an encyclopedia of information for people just starting out. I know some people are visual learners and thats why they come to KZbin, but alot of the articles contain videos and links to videos also great illustrations and examples. (this will make sense by time im done) To get started on the Pi download virtualbox and install Kali, parrot, something Debian based to follow these tutorials, whatever your comfortable with. Watch the videos follow along, and if you mess up you wont break your system if you do just make another one. Your going to need a wireless card in your laptop that does packet injection and a chipset that supports monitor mode. I tried this assbackwards at first and tried to learn "pentesting" before I really learned Linux. I say laptop because your going to need the system resources to watch videos and follow along properly, if you have the right card in a desktop hey why not that works too. Master the terminal and learn about networking protocols. Then you can install Kali on the Pi and take it out into the world to experiment. In the latest version of Kali for raspberry pi they wrote a patch that enables the on-board Wifi chipset so now that it supports sniffing (monitor mode) and packet injection. So the good news is once your ready all you need is the pi, the website , and this channel. The only thing you will need eventually is to buy a stronger wireless adapter so you can increase your range. Your in the right place because your question, is more or less the blueprint of what this channel is built on and gauged toward. Everything you see here is done on the Pi !

The information that the SSH is a vulnerability is a nonsense. Unless it's badly misconfigured, of course. There are many options to make SSH very safe. Obviously, without the SSH, you wouldn't be able to access your remote machines at all. To make the SSH (sshd) safer, I would start with disabling the access using the root account and disabling the password authentication and allowing the key authentication only. That will make any bruteforce ineffective. Then learn more about the SSH security and configuration.

FTP is the quickest and easiest way. You can use Samba in Kali but you would have to play around with it to work.

"generic" shows when fing can't figure out the type or manufacturer of the device. if you see one, it might be a cheap Chinese wifi gadget or any device with weird wifi chip

Network scans on a smartphone are awesome and useful. Blame Apple for deciding MAC addresses are too dangerous to share.

Null Byte with a jailbroken iPhone it does give you much more freedom. Wifi explorer + is awesome, or just use nmap in terminal.
