Also to mention, if you call Hugh (Jane’s dad) and ask him about her guinea pig, he says Jane had a “black” one. Which to me means 1 of 2 things. She killed multiple pets, or it had black fur, but because of the chemicals it changed the animal’s fur color to the orange-ish color shown in the picture on Jane’s desk. Always made me wonder!!!

To add onto the Message in a Haunted Mansion detail, I only noticed during my last playthrough that on the insurance report on Rose's table it mentions something about damage caused to outside shrubbery; this wasn't caused by the culprit, but by you-know-who sneaking into the house (trying to keep this comment spoiler-free)! I didn't know the White Wolf fact before though, what a revelation! I love that there's always more details to discover in these games, no matter how many times we've played them!

Great video! I knew all of them except the White Wolf one about Freddy being the one that broke the window!! That explains why Lou mentions that "there was no rock on the floor" nothing to indicate how it was broken. The ice ball melted! Also, Guadalupe is the one who destroyed the fishing shack. It always bugged me how nonchalant she and the game is about the fact that she did some serious damage and committed crimes (destroying private property/vandalism). And messing with someone's sights on their gun is super serious! Because if they think they are aiming at one thing, but they are actually aiming at another, they could hurt someone or something unintentionally! And if you talk with Guadalupe on the phone, at one point she mentions "I've done much worse while working for Run & Grow Free believe me". I like the wolf and don't want to see it get hurt, but when Ollie throws Guadalupe out, I'm always like "good!" haha Okay, rant over haha 😂

@@thefairybug40 reckless endangerment of an animal for an experimental revenge is pretty cruel, in the same game Nancy is kicked out of Blackmoor for accidentally killing LouLou with a bad cake so having bad intentions isn’t necessary to commit actions that have bad outcomes/consequences
@thefairybug40
@thefairybug40 Ай бұрын
@@healgoth Yes, it very much would be cruel, if Jane had for one moment realized the potential consequences of her actions. Thoughtless, reckless, dangerous? Absolutely. Calling it animal cruelty is completely accurate, but calling Jane cruel mischaracterizes her, at least in this capacity. She was a lonely and desperate child, ignorant of the full extent of her actions. She was cruel to *Linda*, because she knew full well that she was torturing her to cause divorce. She was not cruel to her guinea pig, who she had thought would just get some thicker fur for a little while. The little guy's death is a tragedy, but the difference is that Jane is clearly mournful and ashamed of what happened, while the same is not true of Linda. Animal cruelty? One hundred percent, no argument from me. Means that Jane is cruel? No -- her treatment of Linda proves that, but an unintentional and regretted accident does not.

I love that I switched from a Sims Let's Play to a Nancy Drew video and the intro screen is Sims themed. As for the video: My theory for Aunt Eloise owning the NYC apartment is that maybe she and Carson pitched in to get it, or maybe Carson bought it outright and it's literally like a little family vacation spot. I'm dating the son of a lawyer rn and one thing is that they're always traveling too, so maybe Carson has a lot of cases in New York and needed a more semi-permanent residence there. I think the BIGGER question is how was she friends with Mattie Jensen?

My personal understanding with henrik and Taylor was that he wanted to stop Taylor’s black market dealings and was pretending to be interested in taking part. Those notes are so funny to read because henrik is SO annoyed by him. I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s brought up at the end of the game because henrik didn’t actually want to participate for ‘bad intentions’. To me, the notes made sense as to why he had the ham radio and the ‘buy milk’ note for the black market password. He wanted to buy off the black market to put the artifacts back in good hands!

I think the implications around the monster legends is why I liked captive curse more upon replays as I better understood the legend, and that’s why it ended up being one of my favs. The characters in the game are goofy and off beat, but it’s contrasted with how when you dig deeper they all have something dark in their past that they are avoiding addressing directly. Just like the castles history. And while most games with a spooky setting will try to demystify the location’s spookiness at the end so that the characters can continue on with their lives, in captive curse all of the named characters you meet end up leaving the castle instead in order to move forward.

I haven't played Blackmoor manor recently but don't we find a letter from Jane's uncle in the well, not a prescription, implying that he gave her the hair tonic because she told him her guinea pig was losing its hair? I hadn't thought about the Castle Malloy one before, I thought Fiona just survived by luck but it would make sense that she was flying her jetpack at the time I was trying to think of more examples of scandalous details from the games, not sure if these count: In WAC you find out Rachel and Kim split their classes between them, each only doing half a course load but they still needed Nancy's help with homework. This, plus the fact that they applied for scholarships all over the country and only got 1, suggests they are actually terrible students. In GTH, Clara created a fancy wedding menu and Colton said they should have shrimp and grits and fried chicken because that's what everyone would rather have. Later you find that Charlotte planned to have this exact food at her birthday party. There are many ways to interpret that (Clara is more focused on keeping up with appearances while Charlotte was more focused on substance and making sure people are happy?) In DOG we find out that the well water contains high amounts of arsenic. We never find out if someone intentionally poisoned it, but we later find a large amount of gold bars buried underground, right under the house. Arsenic is commonly found in gold deposits and can contaminate water near gold mining so it's possible Mickey Malone's treasure was the cause of bad well water. (I'm not actually sure if this was said in the game, I can't remember)

It was within the past year that I finally put the dots together on the Captive Curse scandalous detail. I remember being a little weirded out after I played it because I went, "wait, so there's no real monster, then what was that thing in the opening cutscene with the girl?" but the more I thought about it--the fact that we never saw the "monster's" face and this immortal monster wasn't real--the more it made sense. I think the worst part is finding the scarf from Renata's sister in the dark tunnels underneath the castle. I think the game tries to attribute this to "oh, the wind took it down there," but no, Renata's sister was likely abducted and taken beneath the castle to meet a terrible end. That is *horrifying* and because people attribute these disappearances to a monster, they don't act because what are you going to do against a monster? Young women have been vanishing for well over a century near that castle. That's messed up.
