What an excellent video to capture a fault like this, to bad most who watch this will completely miss the fact this is a disaster for a shop. Imagine trying to explain this to a customer. What if the part that failed is thousands of $$? Customer refuses to pay, car was running fine before you worked on it. I've seen this on multiple occasions and unfortunately the shop had to eat the repair. Thank you Paul for your great content

A/c piston is way to heavy for the engine to handle. You may want to consider re-servicing the a/c motor and check the condenser filter. Afterward, check for motor pressure. That’s as far as I know if the clutch is in good running condition

Bad day for everyone involved. Shop has to get it running and worry about cost, owner is pissed and will say you touched it it was fine when i left which is true to an extent. Shop didnt due it bc of an error so really aren't to blame but will probably end up eating it, owner didn't do it but will have to shell out for it if they are reasonable people,and then still bad mouth the shop. Happens all the time in remodeling, and some people listen to reason most don't sadly, literally tell them i can not see thrubwalls, i have expectations based on experience,but nothing is set in stone, stuff happens. I hope you got it running with something simple. Enjoy the videos and the technical knowledge deep dives 👍. nothing like Pittsburgh rust bucket hoopties

@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner Ай бұрын
Did you roll your diagnostic dice to come up with that? 🙂
@AtomicReverend
@AtomicReverend Ай бұрын
@@ScannerDanner yes it is and was a total guess but there is logic behind it. Well it is definitely an ignition issue but without being there with an ohm meter to actually check the coil, the magnetic pickup exc... I said control module because they are notorious to die abruptly when the engine is warm (as are coils) but without having any idea what kind of engine it is or how many cylinders it has I went with control module because if the car is a coil pack vehicle it could lose 1 or 2 cylinders but stay running but this engine abruptly died without even a "sneeze".
@prestonmiller6528
@prestonmiller6528 Ай бұрын
@@AtomicReverendthis engine shut off rather harshly. It didn’t just die like you say. You seem to lack basic knowledge of technology that’s considered even slightly modern.
@AtomicReverend
@AtomicReverend Ай бұрын
That engine did not shut off "harshly" which purely subjective, it shut off relatively abrupt (which arguably is also subjective) but I digress. Now it's time you learn about automobiles because clearly you don't know what you're talking about and I do and you making a guess on my automotive background based on one paragraph I wrote in a comment section on a KZbin video is extremely naive at best but judging by how quickly you are to judge another man it tells me you probably really don't know what you are talking about but that too digress because again I don't know you from Adam or Eve and I don't want to make assumptions based on one stupid paragraph. Here is the facts: All engines that are fired with a sparkplug (in other words excluding diesel or external combustion like steam) have some sort of a control module even modern distributorless ignition vehicles still have a control module this might be a news flash for you but so did the distributor cars of cars in the 1990s and even the 1970s GM HEI, Chrysler lean spark, and the ford duraspark systems that are now almost a half of a century old have/had an electronic ignition control module if some sort. Arguably points ignition systems are still a control module they are just mechanical but they too determine when the engine is to fire the spark plug even if it isn't quiet as precise as a modern distributorless ignition vehicle. Now for our conversation We are going to stay on the electronic era of distributorless ignition systems because I don't understand them... The electronic Control module is the thing that tells the sparkplug to fire. On most (but not all) of the newer vehicles the engine control module is now used to monitor and control many components of the vehicle's Engine management system which means the EEC (electronic engine controls), ECU (electronic control unit) and sometimes it even incorporates the climate control and a few other odds and ends in a vehicle into the engine control module or the powertrain control module if you want to call it that. But generally the the powertrain control module now incorporates inside of it the ignition control module and even if it isn't serviceable by the average technician but it is still there in the circuitry and can still go bad. The only difference between the big giant ignition boxes of the 1970s and the new one is the size and it now it takes specialized tools which means a really pricey scan tool or a computer with the proper software and electrical connections that you can use to communicate with the cars ignition system instead of a good old-fashioned multimeter, and it also means increased parts cost because today when the ignition control module dies you got to replace the powertrain module which it is incorporated inside so now you're spending hundreds of dollars instead of dozens of dollars. But you're right I don't know anything I mean after having my ASE A1 through A8 along with my 3 part certs that I passed all a total of three times in a building in Rancho Cucamonga California must mean I am most certainly clueless on a automotive mechanic fundamentals... (And when I said three times, I mean three times, the first was the official test after then it was renewals 2 different times... as of about 2 years ago I let my ASE stuff lapse because I don't want to work on late model cars because they suck and I am no longer employed (because I quit) by a local stealership, I also do not ever want to sell car parts again because there was nothing worse than dealing with so-called customer experts that were parts replacers not diagnostic people. In case you did not know which apparently you don't but an engine is an engine which is still an engine which means no matter the era they all operate the same way new ones just use electronic circuitry to squeeze every last bit of power and efficiency (along with controlling emissions better) out of an engine but once you understand the basics of an internal combustion engine all the rest of it is just add on stuff and all you have to do is understand how to test the individual sensor which generally speaking is using a multimeter along with experience and proper part identification to be able to diagnose a problem in an engine. Myself I am going backwards when it comes to working on cars, at 45 years old if I'm going to cheese grade my knuckles it's going to be on an old car that I actually enjoy working on. I would much rather build a performance Model A Ford Banger engine that on a good day won't probably break 100 horsepower then work on the abysmal garbage that we call new vehicles. And With the crackdown on larger displacement vehicles you are going to see the internal combustion engine pushed to the ragged edge to squeeze power out of ever smaller and smaller packages, this means more technology and vehicles that become more and more difficult to work on but I digress with ever-increasing parts prices. I don't think it's a coincidence that a quality control module for a 1976 ford is maybe 30 bucks and today a 2019 ford powertrain control module is around 800 bucks. Call me a conspiracy theorist but I'm pretty sure this is deliberate and planned obsolescence to make vehicles too difficult to work on by the home mechanic or small shop. So if by somehow you turn a wrench good luck with that and have fun with that you can have my job, I'm enjoying this construction thing and I definitely know enough that I can keep any car on the road pretty much indefinitely so I don't have to worry about the new tech and I don't plan on buying any car where the HVAC system it's part of the infotainment center but that too i digress.
