I'm sorry I was not more clear about the direction I took and why in this video. I truly felt going into this job (fuel pump running continuously and a no com, that we had a shorted reference circuit (I've seen it many times). Then with me teaching a class of 20 students while live troubleshooting, I got tunnel vision. But these procedure shown are super important to know how to do as 99% of people are lost after checking fuses. What do you do when the fuses are good? "Must be a bad engine computer"...nope, it sure isn't :-) So I will say this again, yes, I should have started with fuses, but do yourself a favor and watch the shorted MAP sensor video and you will have a better understanding. I’m a DIY guy with a decent arsenal of troubleshooting equipment. I work on all our cars (2 that are over 200k miles and a truck at 150k) plus help a lot of friends/family. Stumbled across your videos working on one of our vehicles and have watched a lot since then. Sometimes I find myself saying “Why doesn’t he just.....?” but then I remind myself that you’re teaching systems and processes and concepts rather than a specific procedure. I actually think some of your best videos are like this where you get to a fault taking a little round-about path because it shows more of the whole picture. Someone at home might have been inclined to chase why the fuel pump was running full time and they would have eventually gotten to powers/grounds at the computer, found the fuse, and then (hopefully) looked for the cause of the fuse burning out. It’s not direct, but it’s not necessarily wrong either.

I have a 96 buick roadmaster with a 5.7l v8. I recently lost all fuel pressure. I've replaced the fuel assembly, fuel pump, regulator and relay. I'm still not getting any pressure. I can hear the relay and pump cut on when I turn the key but still no pressure. Please help scanner danner. I've tried to find a mechanic but everyone keeps turning me away. Do you know of anyone in the Houston area that can help me???. Please help scanner danner.

One thing to keep in mind, unplugging a sensor assumes the short is in the sensor. This video showed us that a harness can be shorted as well. Unplugging the sensor would not have caught that. However, checking the fuses would have pointed a technician in the right direction eventually. Thank you for the awesome videos you provide us with Danner!

Instead of cutting a perfectly fine wire, why don’t you remove the pin bushing from the connector housing with the appropriate terminal removal tool and simply push the pin pushing back into the connector housing when done? It takes only a few seconds. That’s how I work. Other than that, you have a real gift of teaching. I learned a lot from you.

My brothers side by side wouldn't start , when I jumped it the battery voltage is around 11 volts at idle. I Googled it and saw that the voltage regulators sometimes go bad but I didn't want to load the parts cannon without being sure....I tested the stator, 18v,17v,16v good, I tested the voltage regulator 16v good. I didn't have a battery tester but you better believe I ordered one after that. Thank you and hello from Indiana county.

yep, I seen the harness wasn't behind the pump where it should have been in the older footage! it's little details like that which make or break repair work, causing future issues. the worst part is, they may have seen it and decided NOT to redo the job (to beat book time) or just sloppily put on a zip-tie which broke apart long ago. I always look over everything and often find possible future issues, but you cannot catch them all.

Mine has the infamous, "No Bus," error. The scanner thinks the key is not even on. Thus, the ECM is bad or crusty wiring is causing the error. The ASD circuit is shorted to ground. Before the shut down, an error denoting the catalytic converter located in the front part of the exhaust manifold was functioning far below perimeters. Maybe I should check out that oxygen sensor harness. The voltage gauge was going crazy right before shut down. After shutdown, the battery was hissing. I suspect a big shirt circuit, probably right where you found your large wire damage.

I am not pro by any means,but what I do when looking for shorts,is to substitute a light bulb in place of the fuse,so when you find the short the bulb lights so as to not waste fuses and when you move a harness you may see the light flash as the short comes and goes.The bulb needs to draw at least as much amperage as the fuses' rating. I simply soldered wires to a blown fuse and connected a headlamp to it,so just plug into fuse socket.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 4 жыл бұрын
You can do that but not on circuits that have low resistance outputs. Your test light can easily find a path to ground through the fuel pump and O2 heater circuits and would light just as brightly as if you were connected straight to ground. So, you can use that method but you must know about this variable or you will absolutely chase your tail on some cars.
@lesbender236
@lesbender236 4 жыл бұрын
@@ScannerDanner I agree,but if you have say a 5 amp fuse and the test light .in this case a headlight bulb that draws more than 5 amps,it will not light until there is low enough resistance to draw whatever it requires. I was not speaking of a regular test light,in which case you are correct. Thanks for responding

I wish I could afford to get you to come down to nc, we got a 02 duango at our shop that is having a similar issue. But in the meantime I'm gonna use your videos and tips to see if we can get it going. Love the great work

Good video. Show the finished fix and start..lol how did you reroute the 02 harness. I can't tell you how many times I rerouted factory harnesses out of harm's way.

Good video Paul, have you heard of John Anello ???? I met him super nice guy. Had a good idea of a heartbeat of a vehicle if you know what I mean 😉.

I was trying to be creative by unplugging the connector with the 5v reference and test the pin to ground looking for the 5v ref. My thinking was if the regulator was cooked from a short, you would not have the 5v ref. This may not be an accurate test. I was just experimenting.
