Scarborough Harbour Late 1960s

Short section of a home movie that I have scanned that shows a bit of life around the harbour ft Wood Boats. I think the film was taken late 1960s - 1967-68 at a guess. Jimmy Clithero was appearing at Scarborough`s Floral Hall so that would date this film but I have no idea when he was there. So if anyone out there knows that year please feel free to add a comment. The film was rescued by the late Pete Murray, his wife, Maureen, has lent me the films so that I can scan and share them via our local Facebook Group - Scarborough Bottom End and Old Town. I'm with you about the Helter skelter... BLOODY LOVED IT !!! Now Luna Park ugh !!! What about the Cage with the stone effigy fixed to the wall of the Richard lll house ??? The Nelson, Newcastle Packet full of Scandinavian piss artists. The first pubs along with The Leeds that I can remember having Doormen.

Like a scene from Heartbeat, quite authentic what they recreated in that series compared to this footage, the only difference with the fictional series to this is that there were far more cars parked up and driving about and more people; in the series you only ever see about 2 or 3 cars parked up and only 1 car passing by, and also, the show always seem to show people dressed in rather old fashioned clothes that were more from the 50s, even the young characters. T shirts were starting to become fashionable in the late 60s. I wonder if there is any footage from Whitby from the 60s where much of Heartbeat was filmed, or even from Goathland? (unlikely any footage exists from the 60s from that village as it was almost unknown until Heartbeat began in 1992).

Health &Safety wouldn’t allow people on the quay while a ship is unloading! Anyway most ports now are well away from town centres.
