The boats at 3:40 are known as lowstermen. These two masted sailing trawlers came up from Lowestoft - hence the name, probably for the herring. You can just about make out the LT registration on the sails.

Fascinating images from the past. Does anyone out there have photo's of Whitehead Hill (once Shilbottle Lane, behind Bethel Chapel, at the end of Quay Street)? I would love to see how it looked in the past.
