The trouble with protecting yourself from scorpions by wearing shoes is that scorpions like to hide in shoes. Anyone who lives near scorpions knows to shake out their shoes before putting them on - there might be something in there that doesn't want to be squished by toes!

Lots of kids playing around that water in the summer time, so we called the Game Wardens, who called in to Austin, got a "death warrant" for the alligator from a judge, and another Game Warden drove it down to the scene of the beagle buffet. I then got to watch as the Crystal Beach foundation savers err... I mean Volunteer Fire Department, tried to pump the water out of the "slew" with their pumper. They didn't realize that it was connected to the Gulf of Mexico. I went off duty and the Game Warden got lucky with some sort of bait, and shot Mr Gator. I live on Galveston island, just across the ship channel from all of this, and have had rattlesnakes, in my back yard, coyotes on my block, water moccasins within 200 yards of my house, alligators on my island ("it's MY island"), and cougars in the neighboring counties. I think most of us Canadians are more concerned about them than bears. And about coyotes; some years ago a young aspiring singer named Taylor Mitchell was walking in a forest in Cape Breton; she passed two people going the opposite direction; not even ten minutes later, they heard screaming, and ran back to find her being attacked by two pr three coyotes. Unfortunately she didn't make it.

We're 50 mins North of Chicago, and a big cat may occasionally pay a visit, either as an 'exotic pet' that strays from its home, or wanders from far up North. The cat and local coyotes typically want NOTHING to do with people, unless there's food scraps in their bins, or if they may have a tasty dog or cat, especially if the cat is allowed to roam, or dogs are tethered or enclosed in a fenced yard. (If a coyote comes around people in daylight, chances are that it may have rabbies.) There have been cases in which dogs on an on-leash stroll with their owners have been attacked by one or more coyotes, mostly after sunset.

I was nearly taken out by a mountain lion a few years ago. At the time I lived just off the river in a wooded area. Went out back at night & didn’t notice there was a lion sleeping on the roof of a car. Literally was face to face with it inside a couple of feet, easily within it’s striking range. I just kept backing up slowly keeping eye contact & it darted off into the woods. Scary stuff! Also, A gentleman who lived down the block from me was killed unloading cattle from his trailer. They spooked slamming the gate into him & when he fell to the floor they trampled him.

My neighbor was actually nearly killed by her cattle. The momentum of their weight pushed her into a fence, where she got trapped and trampled. She lived, but she was in bad shape at first. People on the radio made fun of it because it was actually really serious. Also, the manure on their hooves got into the wounds and she got serious infections. Also, I saw a coyote a few years ago. It was standing in a corn field a few blocks from my house when I drove to work and it was just staring at traffic. It was very eerie. They sound really creepy when you hear them barking in the distance at night too.

Adam, I lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado when I was in the Army, I was stationed at Ft. Carson.... anyway, I remember hearing on the news on TV that there were reports of Bears getting into the dumpsters at Taco Bell near the foothills of Pikes Peak.... the Mountain in Colorado Springs. Anyway, apparently the Bear liked Taco Bell food, because the same bear would make it's way to the dumpster, have to be tranquilized by the Forrest Rangers, then transported back over the mountain many miles away. They tagged him, so the always knew it was the same bear.... that was pretty funny! In a different news report, there was a guy who had to call in to work saying he couldn't make it in until the Wildlife Ranger arrived to tranquilize the the mountain lion on his front lawn! Could you imagine going out to your vehicle with a cup of coffee in your hand heading out to your truck and seeing a mountain lion looking at you like you are the one for breakfast?!! I remember another report where kids were not allowed to go out to the playground at recess because there were bear cubs playing on the playground.... where baby cubs are, mother is surely close by! There were reports of people looking out into their back yard and seeing a bear family going swimming in their pool..... you take your chances living among the beautiful scenery of the mountains, there were always reports of people finding their pets killed by wild life, or come up missing altogether! The people in the news did their best to warn new people moving into the area not to leave their pets outside, especially in the spring time when wild life are really hungry after hibernating during the winter months in the mountains! People really need to think before they move to places..... I just believe people have forgotten to think things through altogether!! Enjoyed the video.....

They made a big mistake by leaving their guns in the truck and they were lucky that the guys were there and fired a shot and they took off running the other way. When I was 12 I went hunting for the first time I had an encountered with a black bear come crashing through the woods and stop just below our tree stand. It stood up on its back legs and sniffing the air then noticed we were in the tree and started climbing the tree but thank god it gave up and got down and ran off

Coyotes do not stalk people with intent to do harm. They are just extremely curious. I've had an entire pack walk around me on both sides no more than ten feet away. I've been around coyotes and black bears my entire life. Neither are aggressive in any way. Black bear attacks are extremely rare, though this is largely because the most aggressive ones were killed off long ago, and only the more timid ones survived to breed.

But one day a ranger took me out in the Prairie to get a picture of a Sunburst (sort of a Venus Fly Trap) but instead she let out a scream. I stopped immediately! Then she asked me if I needed to get a pygmy rattler for the park? Yes, I did. She pointed to where it was. I saw nothing. She pointed more until I could see it. It's a pretty snake but it was posed ready to strike. I took 4 shots. Only one was good because I was shaking out of fear. Later that year, they used it in a campground slide show so tourists could understand how well camouflaged snakes can be. Coyotes come into the city of Chicago all the time.

Cows - Keep in mind that there are people whose entire job consists of managing thousands of cows at once. Like, they can hurt you but its pretty rare if you're careful. Deer - Deer are stupid. Great reactions, but incredibly smooth brained. Gators - Gators are chill. I maintain anyone who has ever gotten hurt by a gator was doing something stupid like walking up to it to poke it or not checking large bodies of water before approaching. According to reports Covert (the lady from the video) was literally walking up to it while people were telling her to get away. Kid gets a pass cause he was 2, I don't know if the parents were charged but they should have been for not paying attention. Snakes - All snakes, not just rattlers; watch where you step, keep your eyes and ears open, wear good jeans. They don't want to bite you because they know they can't eat you, its purely defensive. Mountain Lion - They don't go out of their way to attack humans but if you're in their territory the best you can do is back away for a couple hours until it decides you've gone far enough. Don't fight back, don't turn your back on it, don't run. Just steadily back away and keep yourself as big as you can. Alternatively, gun. Coyotes - Pronounce it "Kai-oat". The e is silent. They're one of the 'respect them and you'll be fine' class of animals; they're not just a dirty puppy, they're a wild animal and you have to remember to treat them as such. A coyote would have to be amazingly desperate (or sick but then you have a whole different problem) to go after a human unprovoked. Wolves - I... honestly don't have much advice for this because I don't live in wolf country. Standard wild animal advice I guess; avoid, stay strapped, stay near a car. Might be worth carrying a repellent if you're gonna be camping. Scorpion - Insect proof your house, wear shoes, socks, and jeans outside. Don't have that particular variety, but that's the good advice for preventing small creepy crawlies. Bears - You can usually scare off black bears; those given examples were incredibly atypical. Don't mess with grizzlies; if the gun or mace doesn't scare them off it just makes them angry at you. If you're not able to get to your car fast enough your best option with a grizzly is to literally lie down and let them hurt you for a while. Eventually they'll get bored and leave you alone. Don't run, you'll just die tired.

My mom found a pair of rattlesnakes in my crib. Years later in a different part of Oregon, I found bear tracks, wolf tracks, coyote tracks. All in my back yard. Came across puma tracks up in the woods.

🤣🤣🤣 You're hilarious. I pet my neighbor's Bull all the time. He puts his head up against the panels, and wants a head scratch. I stay away from mother cows and they're calves.

At my parents' house above Estes Park, Colorado, we had bears try to get into his bear proof tradh can regularly. He had to use fence posts to fasten it down, because they'd pick it up and flip it over and the contents would get all over the interior. I had a bear walk up behind me twice in one summer, about 30 feet away. I asked them what they thought they were doing, and they stood up, looked at me, and ran off. No cubs involved, thank God! I'm a lot more leery of elk, and especially moose, which we've had many times. Moose operate on the theory of "if it worries you, stomp on it".

Garter snakes and Red Racers in Washington, water moccasins and pygmy rattle snakes in GA, I'm live around vipers, mambas, asps and a few others all living in the wild around me. Never been bit. I have mountain lions go through my back yard occasionally. Coyotes everywhere. Wolves about 50 miles north. Black bears. It's pretty wild out here.

My husband was getting out of his car one evening during winter and was getting something out of his car. Our dog started to bark from the window in a way he never heard before and when he turned around there was a coyote creeping up on him and stood 10 feet away him. It didn’t run off right away it just stood there staring him down trying to size him up until it finally walked off. We live in a heavily wooded area in southwestern Ohio and it is not uncommon to see them in our backyards.

Cows run wild out in the west, the road signs reads "Open Range." The ranchers rent the National Forests and cows and sheep run loose to keep the grass grazed and help keep forest fires down. The sheep have shepherds and herding dogs moving with the flocks.

I’ve lived all over the place, I’m in Virginia now and I’ve had black bears, rattlers, copperheads, and coyotes. In Florida of course gators, cottonmouths, rattlers which don’t always rattle down there because they’re scared of the boar, and now they have pythons! In Vegas those bark scorpions are a pain they can get everywhere especially the young small ones which hurt worse, basically like 5 bees stinging you at once but they’re kinda cool and trippy they glow a bright greenish blue under black light

Ever been out in the woods when suddenly everything goes quiet and the hair stands up on the nape of your neck? And you suddenly KNOW a predator is watching you? I have. Upon turning around and heading back to my vehicle, i ran across a set of cougar prints in the light dusting of snow on the ground. It was shadowing me as I walked through the woods. I keep a loud air horn with me as well as my rifle. I don't mind admitting that I fired off one round in the air and used the horn periodically on my way back to my vehicle. I stopped at the closest ranger station to ask about cougar sightings and was told that there had been several in the past week. Yes, it was in Oregon
