Good ride. BUT DAMN THAT WAS A SCARY SAIL! We head out to a nice bay with crystal clear water, only to be woken up in the middle of the night by loads of waves and wind. The weather drives us out of our anchorage, in search for a safer place. But before we can tie up somewhere quiet, we have to face the scariest waves of the season.. I (Mandy) was not very happy. But on the other hand it was really thrilling! Thank god for Alex staying calm and sensible :) :)

Who are we?
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. 12 months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, thinking we know what we are getting ourselves into. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world on our 36ft Beneteau. Sailboat life is super different from land life. It is fantastic and pretty rough at times. see the little things tries to FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING THINGS THAT ARE HARD. Join us on this journey and let's find happiness together!
If you have any COMMENTS, suggestion, questions or feel to need to praise (or scold) us, leave a comment down below and we’d happily write you back :). Of course a THUMBS UP is ALWAYS APPRECIATED very much so and helps us a lot!

The knot on the dinghy does break, ask me how I know... best to keep tying a fresh knot. Lots of great editing and real sailing in these vids. I've watched KZbin sailing videos from the beginning and love your compilations. Fair winds and keep them coming

A couple hours in some tough conditions like these are worth their weight in gold for building your experience. Like someone else already said, next time it comes you’ll be even better prepared. Just knowing that the boat and yourselves can take it helps relieve a little pressure. Just don’t get complacent. Fair winds.

Yup, that's it. You need to know what it (and you) can handle. And I think this one was not even close. Your boat is stronger than you 🤢💪🌊

I understand you want to come to the Caribbean. In the Southern Caribbean you can expect waves double this size and as short as these ones. Especially around the ABC islands and up to the Aves islands the sea is always extremely rough and dangerous. You may want to keep that in mind once you make it to the Caribbean.

We have the same issue with the anchor chain pilling up, if money wasn’t an issue I would buy a stainless steel chain. Stainless is slicker between its links so it has less of a tendency to pile up, Ahh boats and money a never ending affair.

I love your videos, watching you learn the cruising life and avoiding many of the mistakes I’ve made over three decades of sailing. I did get a little concerned though, watching Mandy tidy up the boom with the main hatch open. Very easy to misstep and fall through the hatch.

Green head flys are the worst, just a couple of them blood suckers aboard can make sleeping impossible. Best defense against them is to keep a Bible aboard, but you have to hit them really hard & fast with it😅

Another great video! The hull shape our 361's tend to "bash" when heading into the waves like that. Very uncomfortable and not much you can do, except try to take the waves at an angle. Where to store the dinghy on a 361? That is always a question for us, isn't it? Ours was too big to fit in front of the baby stay without making the bow completely inaccessible. We ended up pulling it behind us all the way from Rhode Island to SW Florida, including multiple offshore passages. It worked okay, but it cost us about half-a-knot or more of boat speed. Our current solution is to use a thing called a "Dinghy Sling" and hang the dinghy across the stern. We like it, but it makes getting in and out of the boat by the swim platform impossible. There's always trade-offs, right? :)
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 4 жыл бұрын
Damn dinghy. Damn babystay. Also too big for under the boom. We tried to lift ours with the outboard davit. We have to try again differently. Would love a solar arch with proper dinghy davit...
