Imagine waking up to beautiful sunrises, always surround by nature and swimming in crystal clear waters with the ocean all around you. A world where the wind decides in which bay you throw your anchor for the night, just to wake up to the next priceless sunrise. Now, imagine reducing all your belongings to the most essential things, so they fit on a home less than 11 meters long. With not much to worry about and time to reflect on the meaning of life while enjoying peaceful nights under sail at sea.
Would you give up the comfort of your house for this?
The choice seems simple.
Well, life on a sailboat is like that, but there’s more. 80% of the time, living aboard a floating home is hard work. Work you don’t get paid for, quite the opposite. Things break all the time, and you need time and money to keep the ship maintained and safe for all those sunsets you chase.
And if you found yourself on the wrong side of the island, when the weather hits you, just try to get some sleep...
This week we give you a tour of our so called Floating Tiny Home on the water! AKA sailboat, our Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 361, a 36ft monohull.
Only the BEST BOOK for sailors! Absolutely love it and answers all my questions

Who are we?
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. Six months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, not really knowing what we're doing. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world via the wind, always being surrounded by the ocean. Sailboat life is super different from land life and can be pretty rough at times. see the little things is the documentary of our endeavour of simplifying life, decelerating pace, and practicing mindfulness. Follow our adventures when you are curious to see how we mess up and fix it up again! We are currently still sailing Greece, but will head over to Italy and beyond soon.

If you have any COMMENTS, suggestion, questions or feel to need to praise (or scold) us, leave a comment down below and we’d happily write you back :). Of course a THUMBS UP is ALWAYS APPRECIATED very much so and helps us a lot!

Hehe, thanks!. But we of course cleaned up ;) Also, honestly, we had alot more things hanging and lying around in the beginning. We just noticed that when you sail or when you get big waves, or swell in an anchorage, that is a terrible idea! Everything starts making noise and moving around, falling down, really annoying haha. So we just put everything away now, makes life easier! Cheers

In our US-built 361, we do have windows in the forward cabin - the same style as in the aft cabin. There's also a couple of odd things with the cockpit - the supports for your bimini prevent the installation of the corner fold-down cockpit seats we have, and the support bracket for the chart plotter goes right through the two molded cup holders in the console! I'm really envious of your salon table, however - ours does not fold, so the people sitting on the port side have a long reach to the table when eating. And we definitely agree - that head compartment is one of the best features of the boat - it is enormous for a 36ft boat! I love your suction cup storage things in there - I'm going to go find those at IKEA! Another great video - thanks for sharing!
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean, always happy to see we have a comment from you! You are totally right, the bimini supports are a pain in our %§&, They are always in the way, especially when we want to use the cleats when mooring up. I (Mandy) am so jealous you have fold-down cockpit seats! I really wanted those, but have never seen them on small boats, would love to see how that is installed on your boat. Because our rigging also seems to be in the way..? The suction cup storage items are called TISKEN, they are fantastic! We also have the TISKEN hooks in every cabin, to hang up a coat or something. Some do fall of once every 2 months, but it beats having to drill holes :) Happy weekend!

Nice video and boat. A little safety heads up just in case. The locker in the cockpit you store the oil, gasoline and chemicals etc. in, should be water tight to the interior of the boat and vented to the outside of the boat hull. If you have a leak of flammable liquid or fumes or propane gas etc. and it can flow into the boat and end up inside or even in the bilge. This flammable material can then be ignited by a simple spark from an electrical switch, such as your bilge pump automatically turning on do to water of flammable liquid in the bilge. If this happens then the flammable material would cause a fire and explosion. modern yachts usually have a vented propane locker for the propane tank (for your stove) that is vented to the outside of the hull to prevent a leak from ending up in the boat. Unless the locker you have in the cockpit is made for flammable material and liquid can not flow into the boat and it is vented to the outside, it is unsafe and could cause a disaster. Most cruiser store diesel and gasoline on deck in fuel containers attached to the life lines so any leaks or fumes will not end up in the boat. Not trying to be a pain or to scare you, I just want you two to be safe. If the locker is designed for flammable material storage, I apologize for the long needless post. Fair winds to you both!
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 4 жыл бұрын
Hey bullseye, thanks for commenting and taking the effort - Always appreciated! Our propane/butane is in a separate vented locker, but apart from that still it’s not ideal to store all fluid flammables in there. Gotta rethink our compartments sooner than later.

Just subscribed! Thank you for this tour of your beautiful home! I can't wait to go through your other videos. I am interested in sailing and loved learning more. The storage was brilliant. Your home is so well organized. Imagine the preparation of grocery shopping on land and then creatively storing your food and water. It is an honor if someone invites you into their home, and to show you even their drawers and closets is trusting, brave, confident and open, also possibly a bit vulnerable (that's how I would feel at least). This is such an honor - thank you! You will get 100K! I saw a comment you made on a different channel and that's how I found you today, saw this video, and subscribed. By the way, you both speak great English, great word flow. I re-listened for fun to try to count (thinking of it as a contest to maybe get to meet you) and it was challenging to count because I kept missing it and had to rewind.... Because the words fit the situation and dialogue perfectly. The frequency was unnoticed and required concentration to count. I realized later that you may feel a bit self conscious about it but your dialogue is perfect. I say the words "like" and "you know" as unnecessary extras in conversations (I'm a lawyer, late 40s) WITH CLIENTS. ugh.🙄 I have tried to stop and had my kids count. Your usage is different than that- I wouldn't count it when I counted my thoughts. 💜

Hi Monica. Thank you so much for your incredibly sweet comment and the compliments :) We are happy to hear you enjoyed the tour! We are very curious people ourselves and looked at many other boat videos, so we thought we do smth back ;). Funny you re-listened and tried to count, didn't think people would actually do that stuff hehe. Maybe I am too much of a language purist (it doesn't really matter that english isn't my native tongue, I am very harsh on myself in all the languages I speak..). I hope you enjoy the other videos too and we don't disappoint! Welcome to the club :) Cheers and alottalove

Great video, loved the step by step tour and your presentation. What struck me the most is how well used the volume of interior space is, especially storage. A lot of boats just don't seem to have any, just little shelves above the seating and bunks.

It’s pretty alright storagewise! Could definitely be more if you live aboard. But since they are more meant for weekend sailors it’s plenty. You then can choose the 2 cabin version. You’d have a lot more storage then. Especially in the galley, but we couldn’t find this version on the market when we were looking ;)

I’m really enjoying your channel, especially seeing your confidence grow. Have you done a video yet on how much you invested in your home and what the monthly upkeep is with maintenance, docking and food costs? What does this lifestyle cost in dollars? I hope that’s not personal. Sending you my absolute best!

Hey Emily, thanks 😊 it’s cool to hear people watch us long enough to see a difference ! Haven’t done that video yet but should definitely do that soon. A quick answer: Since we gave up our apartment and don’t have a car, a boat is not additional luxury for us but instead the only major asset we own. Like this, life is cheaper than living in a house. The big costs are marinas, which in low season are between 300-400€ a month for us, boat insurance, and 10% of the boat value in maintenance / year. The rest is personal expenses and putting money aside for when we are old.
@toemilyjune
@toemilyjune 4 жыл бұрын
see the little things That is really helpful knowing to save 10% of the value for annual maintenance. I’m sure you’re full of gems of information! I’m guessing one can do this for as little as $2000-$3000 per month depending on the size of the boat. I’m looking forward to seeing more of you guys soon. Thanks you for sharing with me.
@seethelittlethings

Hi Emily! Very late response, but yes, you could easily live on a boat for that kind of money. We don’t spend that much. Last year we spend more a month than we will this year because we had arranged an income and we simply could and decided we didn’t want to turn every penny around (but still saved a part of that income for this year). This year we don’t have that income anymore and we will be living for way less than 2k$|€ a month. If you cook yourself, don’t go into marinas (we are currently on Ibiza and one can’t afford it anyways, 200€ a night for 36foot!) and nothing major breaks on the boat 🤞 that can easily be done if you really want to :)

Great choice! By now we do almost all work ourselves, but we wouldn’t have dared to do an electrical refit in our first year. If you only swap batteries it shouldn’t be difficult. Same-ish dimensions and number is like swapping a car bat.

Hmm good one. Though our sounder only flips in deeper water (works fine in anchorage), if I had to I’d first check navionics sonar chart, then make sure I see the anchor hit (not uncommon in clear water in Greece or Italy) or reverse slowly and feel the anchor brushing the bottom, moving the chain. And then let out 4 times or all of it, depending on space.

Nice video and nice little boat.. You talking about reaching 100.000 subscribers.. That is a big goal and hard to reach.. You really have to be able to make a big difference compared to other sailers if you have to reach that goal.. There are so many sailers on youtube so the competitions is tough.. I can name few sailors over 100000 subscribers.. LA Vagabonde (1,100.000).. Delos (353,000).. Gone with the wind (272,000).. Nahoa (164,000).. Rick Moore (111,000).. But give it a try.. Now you have 910 subscriber.. Inklusive my self.. Anyways.. Just be yourselves and take one day at a time.. I will follow your guys.. Take care and good wind..

Hi, it looks like it was a charter sailboat, am I wright? If so, did you have to put a lot of effort and money to fix it or the charter company did it and sold it completely free of issues? I'm looking for a used Bavaria charter 44 when I'll retire in a few years and would like to have your point of view. Cheers from Canada P.S. I subscribe to your channel
@seethelittlethings

Hi Pierre, no she was not a charter boat :) But she wasn't used as a liveboard boat either. She was actually sailed quite little and spend most of her days on the hard. You always have to count on putting money into a boat next to the purchase price. After a lot of research we found that you should mostly count on investing about 25% of the purchase price on top to fix things, when you of course don't buy a fixer upper. We are working on a video about how we bought the boat and what we payed attention to. That might be able to answer some of your questions. So stay tuned! Cheers :)
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 4 жыл бұрын
The 25% is just to give you an idea. It of course depends alot on the boat and how much you want to and have to change/fix. A survey will always help you to estimate these costs before buying it.
