Scarface is a 1983 American crime drama film directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone. Loosely based on the 1929 novel of the same name and serving as a loose remake of the 1932 film, it tells the story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino), who arrives penniless in Miami during the Mariel boatlift and becomes a powerful and extremely homicidal drug lord. The film co-stars Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Robert Loggia. De Palma dedicated this version of Scarface to the writers of the original film, Howard Hawks and Ben Hecht.

I’m glad I was able to go up the stairs where the chainsaw scene happened back in 2012, it gave me the chills lol. On the apartment door it was filled with writing saying R.I.P angel 😢

Back in 1996 when I lived in Miami Gloria Estefan owned 2 houses in Star Island and would rent the 2nd one out to movie stars who were filming movies in Miami, John Travolta and Eddie Murphy to name a few.

I just returned from a trip to Miami & I checked out a few of the Scarface locations as well. I learned a few things about the film's filming locations. The Freedom Town interstate highway scenes were filmed in LA using the I-10 bridge locations & the diner scene was filmed in Little Tokyo, also in LA. Another thing I read was that the production crew & actors did not feel welcomed while in Miami. Many of the local Cubans didn't like how Cubans were going to be depicted in the film

I was there last month. I checked out all that I could of the location too. The Carlyle sign is back now. Not sure why. I had to go back an look at my pics to make sure, but it's there. Ate lunch there. The movie, Bird Cage was partly filmed there. That's the name of the restaurant, The Bird Cage Cafe.

I took my son to that spot in August 2021 at 10 pm. The humidity made us dizzy, we sweat through all our clothes but had to see that stairway.

The house just north of Frank's home was Richard Nixon's winter home when he was president. The big concrete platform that sticks out into the bay was the helicopter pad for Marine One.

There's no way any of that chainsaw scene was shot in a sound studio. Between the outside and inside everything matches up exactly, and there's no way they would shoot leaving the door open in a sound studio because they would never be able to match it. I think the only reason IMBD mentions this scene in the sound studio is they may have gone back and added some sound noises, but all the action if filmed right there on location of that motel. That's why IMBD listed at "chainsaw scene" and are being so vague about it otherwise they have said "interior of motel room from chainsaw scene" or something like that. They probably just needed to touch a few things up in the studio but 95% of it would have been shot right there in and out of the motel.
