Scarface and Tribe, polar opposites of hip-hop. This is how much range there was in the game in our day. I’m fiddy-one. The golden era, HANDS DOWN!! I love them both and was pleasantly surprised to see and hear that Face was so influenced by Tribe.

they were polar opposites maybe content wise, but at the end of the day, Tribe's music was street. It went hard. It wasn't no watered down 'conscious' cafe latte music. The beats were dumb hard and the vocals were hard. "Footprints", "Bonita Applebum", "Can I Kick It", "Rhythm"... these are hard beats. The way hip hop is supposed to sound.As long as you have hard, funky beats and a captivating voice, you can rhyme about whatever you want. And it'll be just as hip hop.

Couldn’t be accurate. Golden era of hip hop hands down greatest era of music ever
@lewalcindor93566 жыл бұрын
Fascinating cause Face/Geto Boys were on the complete opposite side of the coin from Tribe when it came to content and even style. But the respect the legends still had for each other's craft in the Golden era was legit, they recognized how each other was moving the culture.

It's bittersweet to hear Scarface make those comments because I remember myself and my classmates bumping Tribe a lot. I mean the whole album/tape from start to finish. However, I remember going to Berklee College of Music in 1992 and my roommate was a DJ from New York. He used to let me scratch and mix on his tables. I was sifting through his records and I found an album that had snippets from gangster movies like "Untouchables" and "Harlem Knights". I lost my mind when I found a snippet of the character Scarface saying "All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break them for anybody." So I told my roommate that I going to try to make another version of the song Scarface and he had no idea of what I was talking about. For all that hip/hop that we in the South listen to, I ran into a DJ from New York who had no idea who the rapper Scarface was. Well, I guess he knows now!!!

My cassette tape would cut off in the middle of "Description of a Fool" but when I bought the CD an finally heard the song it was just OK{I like it now}. You and Scarface should've talked about those BOMB AZZ INTERLUDES throughout that great album. Something the Low End Theory was missing{they did have Scenario}. I'm not surprised. At one time Brad started studying Islam and most of the Tribe Called quest including Busta Rhymes and Digable Planets(to name a few) were 5%ers. The basis of that is Islam. I not sure where these guys are religiously or spirituality but they at least had that in common. I also noticed how multifaceted he is with music. Jazz, county, blues, and rock. He's linked up with Callaway for golf. I'm been on a Brad Jordan binge this month. I've always liked his music but after seeing tons of his videos, I really think he's an amazing individual. Trailblazers. And if you know Tribe you can tell that Scarface is not faking. He knows their catalogue. And he certainly knows De LA. "Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa" is the most obscure De La song ever. But as face said, it is brilliantly written. Its a song about sexual abuse/incest. But Pubic Enemy, Can I Kick It, Devoted to the Art of Moving Butts, Footprints, Mr. Muhammad. They did not even talk about Bonita Album.
