I would love to see all parts of this. As a kid growing up mesmerized by the animation scenes in the movie The Wall, I was very intrigued by the artist's story. This documentary has been amazing so far, and I encourage you again to upload all parts!

Thanks! I take you up on your encouragement. I'm looking for it right now. I'll do my best!

@vollsticks It's a great documentary but I really want to upload it without the syncronisation problem (see below for the reasons for the sync problem). I remember recording all the "Scarfe On...." series a few years later in the early 1990s. I seem to remember there was Scarfe On Class, Scarfe On Art, and Scarfe in Paradise. The only one I kept was Scarfe In Paradise which is on a VHS tape which still plays perfectly. It's great! I might upload it soon

He also also made an excellent program about Follies, as in the ''fanciful and impractical architecture'' variety. Well hard.

@ReverendFlatus Blimey! That was quick! Especially as we were only in the pub a few hours ago and the subject of this upload was not mentioned! Well the trouble is that I recorded it on Betamax in 1986. I still have the orig tape and Sanyo recorder but the Beta tape is now knackered. This is from the VHS copy I did from the Beta in 1992. Then it's transferred to DVD (VOB file) Then it's converted from VOB to Xvid (AVI) and then again transferred to YT. This is the 6th time I've tried!

Thanks so much for uploading this! I've wanted to see it for years. I don't suppose you've got any of the "Scarfe On..." series kicking about have you? They were pretty good too as I remember....anyway--I don't want to sound ungrateful! Thanks again for posting this!

OK, mrmcpeakster, I've found the disc which I did an HQ transfer from the original Sanyo Betamax and have converted to VOB then DivX, then uploaded!! Takes me bloody hours but it's well worth it, and thanks for the nagging! I hope you'll be the first to comment on part 2!!!!!!!

@ReverendFlatus ......furthermore, Rev, it's frustrating as I'd really like to get this uploaded. I can go back to the orig Beta tape but it's creased and fucked visually. But the sound and vision would be in synch. Bearing in mind that this is a celebration of Gerald Scarfe's 50th birth year back in 1986, and he's renowned for what he does visually rather than aurally, I think we're going to have to live with this synch issue for now although it REALLY bugs me!

@gouvyrock Ah! A good question and I'm glad you asked me that!! I've tried many ways and means of uploading it without the synchronisation problem to no avail, so I put it to the back burner. I just don't think it does such a fine documentary justice to have it out of synch but I may have to go with it.

@ReverendFlatus Hi Rev! Bearing in mind you left that comment six months ago and I see you every week in person, it's just cropped up again as someone asked where the rest was. Trouble is that the sync prob is only present AFTER uploading, so that one would have to time the delay and make the adjustments BEFORE uploading. We may well remember to discuss this over a pint.....or not!! Must be my turn to drive! N

@nickhirst999 Also I love Scarfe's earlier work--the first decade or so of him publishing--all that cross-hatching with a marked Ronald Searle influence....brilliant. Do you know anything about his falling out with Ralph Steadman in the mid-sixties? Always wondered about that....

OK. I've gone with it! Here is part 2!

@nickhirst999 I would be forever in your debt if you did! That's the one where he gets shot at the beginning, isn't it? I watched them all at the time--never saw "Scarfe On Scarfe"--but the "Scarfe On..." series is kind of etched in my memory. Got a bit of a refreshing when I bought the "Drawing Blood" book--there's a small piece about the series in it with the drawings used to advertise each program. Scarfe is a "national treasure" and quite possibly a genius, in my view.

Does anyone have any idea where any of the other "Scarfe on" film may be obtained? Scarfe on class, Scarfe on death and Scarfe on sex were the three I remember, but I'm buggered if I can find *anywhere* to get them.
@nickhirst9998 жыл бұрын
Yeah... I videod them all. Scarfe on class, Scarfe on art. Then I think I taped over them! However, I see from my video tape library that I may have kept one which is Scarfe in Paradise, which may be the one you mean when you say Scarfe On death. Ok I can see that video tape from here! I'll get it down and plug my video player in and see! I hope it says what it is on the box!

Wow that would be amazing - I don't think I saw that one. I had the rest on VHS and kept them for years. Somehow, during the move to America I lost those tapes and have been kicking myself ever since. I even tried writing to Gerald Scarfe via his website but apparently the BBC own the rights and for some reason that means they are destined to stay on a shelf in a BBC archive forever without anyone ever being able to see them. I will never understand the law.

Yeah got "Scarfe In Paradise" on video in 4:3 square TV ratio as originally broadcast on my VHS tape. I can put it up on YT, if they'll allow me as I keep getting copyright notifications about the music from Scarfe on Scarfe or if you live in the UK, I can post you a DVD of it, free of charge! You asked nicely, and I respond nicely! I'm glad people still like to watch these videos. That's why I recorded them! Reply to this and we'll see what we can do! Even if you don't live in the uk, I'll send it to you free as long as I dont't have to pay silly money to post it! I'm enjoying watching "Scarfe In Paradise" now!

Extremely kind of you and greatly appreciated. I have a UK address that you could send it to if uploading somewhere is not an option. I loved these quirky films, and Gerald Scarfe. If I could pay for a DVD of them I would but it's not to be. Thank you for keeping the VHS tapes safe!
