I’m a PADI freediver. I loved the course. I thought it was significantly more challenging than SCUBA, though. Equalization was the biggest challenge. If you do the exercises it’s possible to quickly extend your breath hold far beyond the time you’re underwater. By the end of it, you should be able to hold your breath and swim at least the length of a short format Olympic sized pool underwater, which is a great skill for sneaking up on and surprising your friends. The temptation in the class is to try to get to the bottom and back up as fast as possible. In fact, it’s much better to go more slowly. It uses less air and makes equalizing easier. Breath hold diving is very mental. If you travel a lot, though, it’s a good option to retain when you don’t necessarily want to carry all your scuba equipment or be forced to rent.

In the US, you have to get your tanks hydrostatically tested every 5 years for about $30 and a visual inspection yearly that I have seen as low as $5. I need to have my own tanks because I dive every day 3 tanks a day for work. I would never take my tanks traveling somewhere that I couldn't drive though.

That's a good point! Australia is much pricier when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Thank you so much for this great video and congrats for the 5,000. :) I'm a French girl and I've just discovered your channel because I really want to start scuba diving in a Volunteer organisation to become a Dive master at the end. That's a great opportunity for me to discover your channel and learn more about everything I should know about scuba diving, thank you again ! Your channel seems very useful and interesting.

Hi Kat, I don't know how you can do what you do, the water absolutely terrifies me, and also the prospect of breathing underwater through a regulator is again completely terrifying and I don't think I'd ever have the courage to do it. The ocean terrifies me, also the risk of shark attacks is very real, particularly where you are in Australia, where surfers seem to get regularly eaten as well as freedivers and scuba divers. My fear is very very real, and I just admire your courage and confidence in your abilities. I actually build and fly kit planes and Gliders.. so the air is my happy place, NOT WATER! If you ever came to the UK, kat, I'd be thrilled to take you flying in my Aircraft, then perhaps you might be able to try and help me be not so afraid in water! Best wishes Andrew. X

Regarding drysuit diving it really is a topic of what region you will be doing most of your diving. In diving a lot of things can be answered by application specific demand. For example we here in the Pacific North West Seattle, WA drysuit training is offered and highly encouraged out of the gate or your not going to be a happy diver for long! In fact students are discouraged from even considering wetsuits or semidry unless their intent is training for warm water diving on holiday. Again application specific. As with anything proper training and an open mind to learn drysuit diving is not difficult. Its a learned skill and once you develop the skill it can be a very enjoyable method of diving year around throughout all seasons. We change out or inner garments depending on how warm we want to dive so in the summer months we can dive a drysuit shell and still have a comfortable dive without excessively overheating. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

How do you deal with your obligation when you're not feeling great enough to dive ? I mean when you are in a working day and customer are waiting for you to lead the dive, etc.. is that possible to not dive ? This question is really something that stops me to do this job !

@@OceanPancake It is the instructor that is most important.I failed the course because of equalisation issues and then did a private coaching with the instructor a month later where she succeeded in getting me gradually to the required depth for the first time.Later I did the required 10 meter dives and got certified.A course is too short if one has an issue. Then one needs more intensive coaching.
