The more air and fuel there is in the spark gap, the more resistance it has electrically. So once it hits a given amount of airflow (boost and temp will affect it) the path of least resistance may be through a pinhole in the plug wires. Good find! Always refreshing when it ends up being something simple.

It's funny, early in the video when y'all were discussing what could be the problem causing the jerky rpm curve on boost, I was thinking out loud that there was probably something wrong with either the coils, wires, or plugs. Y'all went from thinking it was the fuel, to tune, to dead cylinder and so on. I was talking at my phone, hoping y'all could hear me, there's something wrong with the ignition system! 😂 Then y'all changed the wires out and made another pull. When I heard that engine smoothly reach peak power without a stutter or stumble, and saw Cleeter's hand fly up, I yelled "hell freaking yeah!" at my phone. First thing I did was pull the plugs and check the HT leads' resistances - one of the basic checks I was taught as a 'prentice! One 'plug was wet and 'sooty', suggesting an ignition issue, and the 2 part (BERU, IIRC) HT lead for it was open circuit for each part. New leads and it was running perfectly - to the point I decided to keep it as a run-around instead of stripping it for parts.

You don't have the money for new plug wires and fuel? 😂
@Danger-Dave Жыл бұрын
Use an Ohm meter and ohm out those plug wires, there may be one that reads different from the rest and look for any pin holes in the silicone insulation and boots. You could also hook them up one at a time to a coil, stick a piece of rubber in the plug boot and lay them flat on a grounded piece of aluminum foil in the dark crank it over and look for any spark's arcing to the foil through the insulation or around where the boots meet the insulation, it only takes a micro crack to let the sparkles through.

That’s fair, but it’s still very unsuspecting. Looks like a ratty Supra you’d find on marketplace for $18k because it’s already been beat to death. Most individuals with the funds to build the power plant would have definitely made some visual changes

Its great you figured it out, like Steve Morris says it's the small cheap parts that will cause you problems. That Supra is an animal! Cheers from Tokyo!

Man. Bad parts has been a serious thing. Mechanics are telling me soemtimes they are getting 2 or 3 bad parts before they get a good one.

I’ve been chasing down a few issues on my brothers built motor truck, it wants to sometimes jump forward at a stop, then getting onto the highway it would miss enough to make a nice bang from the exhuast and coolant temps would randomly jump up and down. After days of checking sensors, fueling, etc. I finally noticed the negative terminal on the battery was loose 😂

I've got to give some kudos to the Tuning plaform that we have for the N54 bmw cars. MHD has put into their software which is run on an average Android phone and they not only can do all the ethanol fueling and tunes for the average mads like down pipes and larger intercooler etc. But last year they added Anti Lag to it!! Just by holding the volume button or the cruse control lever you can fully Anti lag up to 15 pounds of boost! Amazing tech at an amazing price and on a stock block you can run safely up to 750 HP if you have a manual trans or about 625 on the Auto trans! This made me realize how great that is for the average car guy!

I rarely see Supras in the wild where I live. I got to ride in a 900hp Supra while I was in the military and will never forget it. I couldn't believe how smooth it was and yet still somehow violent.
