Thank you for this video! I learned a lot and some new facts. I am starting up a 75 gallon planted tank for groups of nano fish, hoping to see more natural behaviors. Do scarlet badis use mostly the bottom of the tank? And do you think they would be ok in this type of set up with lots of rocks, plants and branches. Also I am planning on a decent sized group of dwarf chain loaches and a group of 10 Venezuelan corys. Would they all do well together? There will be schools of green neon tetras, chili rasboras, and probably 1 other fish. What is your opinion?

My oldest grew just under an inch and he was quite a show off. I tried to get a female but I ended up with 3 males. The other 2 died a month apart, and the survivor lived for around 2 yrs. They behave like a sparkling gourami or even like a betta, they eat similar food also.

Hi Dan! Apologies for the essay... I have 2 male Badis in 15 gallons. I was shooting for a male/female pair, but now that the 2nd male has coloured up things are getting aggressive. I am wondering how much aggression is too much? They are both happy to come out, display against each other, then chase each other around the tank for a few seconds. No visible damage, both eating. It's like a seriously overgrown jingle tank, I figured they'd have enough space ... Is this something that's fine, so long as they can escape the fight and hide, if they want to? It almost feels like they're actively trying to figure out who is the alpha, and neither of them know yet... Or is too much display-fighting a big problem no matter what?

Wow. This taught me a lot. Two weeks ago I set up a 5 gallon tank complete with a variety of live plants, spider wood, and some aquarium rocks that I have set up to make a little cave. I wasn’t aware of the whole “you only need one or a ton” thing so I got two 😬. So far they seem to be coexisting okay..they “hang out” together occasionally and I don’t see any nipped fins. However, I do notice one eats a lot while the other eats very little (I actually thought it wasn’t eating at all but it’s still somehow alive). I feed frozen brine shrimp and blood worm and the one simply won’t take it, so then I’ll sprinkle a little fish food and it must be living off of that. I can’t upgrade my tank size because of space issues so should I just get rid of my one badis? Edit: OH I also cultured the tank with black worms…so it could be eating those too..

Nice fish. In particular, could you go over the sexing of fish in general in your next livestream? Some say fish can change their own sex like a female betta becoming a male betta. Wouldn't that just have been a juvenile male betta that hadn't developed yet and was mislabelled female? Thanks. 🌿🐟

Cant you keep them with shrimp?
@laurabustos656010 ай бұрын
@@munettegreeff3233 sure, as long as you have plants and hiding places for shrimp it'll work. But if you're trying to grow your shrimp colony, Scarlet Badis are predators, so they will predate your shrimp fry. So they might be better with a really established shrimp colony or shrimp cull tank if you're breeding shrimp for color/ line and have to pull your "rejects" or shrimp that aren't up to the quality you're trying to keep.

My "I know why they fight" theory : CHAPTER ONE. ------------------------- If you have a bunch of them who are very young you will always see just ONE growing up to it's full size and displaying it's fins in a flashy way. All of the others will "dig their hole" waiting for the alpha male to die or go away. After he's gone another male will allow itself to take that place (maybe after a fight to establish who is the strongest), and so on. Now if you buy a bunch of them, and they give you more than one "adult", basically what you've just done is to put two or more alphas face to face between 4 walls with no way to escape... Guess what will happen ? Yes. They will fight and to the death if need be. It's all about territory. Only the Betas will be allowed to live under a single Alpha iron fist rule. That is how they are and you can't really change that. CHAPTER TWO ‐----------------------- They say you need 4-6 or more for them to be happy. I don't think it's true at all. Males of this species can't stand each other. They have to disguise as females ijust in order to not to be killed. It would only be true if somehow we could sex them and order 1 male and 5 females. So as long as we can't get females, you're better having just 1 per tank in my humble opinion.
@Neuri Жыл бұрын
they don't send females so you have to buy from them.
@DansFish Жыл бұрын
Maybe. Its hard to know someone's internal motivations. Could also be they are trying to only send pretty fish because they will sell better? I dunno.

U have way too many male fishes in the group. Females are colorless. They are native fishes in Indian rivers. I have kept two groups( each one has one male n 7/8 females). They preferred to eat only live foods. Plenty of hiding space n plants are good. Adding up a shrimp colonies are good from time to time..
