Scarpa Quattro First Look

Scarpa is jumping onto the Gripwalk, hybrid ski touring boot bandwagon with their new Quattro XT. With a full, alpine-style overlapping shell and a stiff 130 flex we are incredibly stoked about how hard the Quattro skis. However, weighing only 1522 grams in a 27.0 and with an awesome walk mode, we think the Quattro tours better than almost any other Gripwalk boot out there. We can't wait to keep putting the Scarpa Quattro XT through the gauntlet both in the resort and the backcountry.

The Quattro is ideal for a medium-width foot. You should be able to get a comfortable fit with a wider foot, but it may take a heat mold and some work on the shell to get it totally dialed in!

Do you wear the same size as the Scarpa F1 LT? I have to order them online, and I'm hoping that the sizes match between my F1 LTs. Thanks!

Thanks for the review. You said that you thought that this might be a 1 boot solution (alpine and AT) in the video. Does that advice sort of depend on the weight and power of the skier? Just to put it in context, I'm 6'5" and 235 and I can put a fair amount of power down. I'm asking because I'm due to replace my alpine boots and I want to get into AT (currently I Tele in the backcountry and for uphill laps - yeah yeah I know....). Thanks.

Weight and skier ability definitely play into it. This Scarpa boot sits alongside other hybrid boots like the Atomic Hawx, Lange XT3, and the Tecnica Cochise. All these boots will ski like an aggressive 130 Flex alpine boot. The reason we are excited by the Quattro is that it is lighter than these other options and has a larger range of motion. This means that compared to most other boots in its category it can actually uphill well. For anyone looking for the absolute best downhill performance in the backcountry, these hybrid boots are a great option.

Can you compare the fit to Scarpa F1? I have such narrow feet that the F1 are like the only touring boots that somewhat fit properly but I would like something burlier.

The Quattro has a 100 mm last while the F1 has a 102 mm last. We've found the fit of these two boots to be similar, with the biggest difference being a more defined heel pocket in the Quattro, so if the F1 is a good fit the Quattro would be a safe bet. You could also check out the Tecnica Zero G Pro, which has a narrower fit than either of the Scarpa boots.

I only had the possibility to try in the Zero G Scout which I believe uses the same shell as the Pro and I was floating around at the mid foot area in that boot compared to the F1 for some reason. I think I will pull the trigger on the Quattros. Thanks again!

@@boardie00 yep. I get a lot more hold around my ankle with the buckles instead of the Boa closure. I have to say the fit of the f1 was not perfect for me as my ankle could move a bit too much. It's slightly less volume and for sure improved power transfer in harsh conditions or on piste compared to the F1. In walk mode when you open the upper buckles and find a good position for the lower buckles, for me they are nearly indistinguishable. Although it is easier and faster to switch between the right tightness for ascending and descending with the boa. I can't keep the two lower buckles in the same position for skinning and descending and sometimes it would be more optimal if there were in between steps for the buckles after coming from the boa system. Because loosening them one step after descending they barely have any tension whatsoever which sort of doesn't feel secure enough in some terrain so I keep them closed in "descending" position which is actually a bit uncomfortable. So i sometimes end up microadjusting the buckles when switching between skinning/descending which costs a slight amount of time.
