I too like the way you showed the various ways to achieve a rose! Also, I’m always afraid to use a Posca pen and outline the various sections of the flower....I’m afraid if I like what I have created, I’m leery of outlining.....😳 for fear I’ll “mess” it up!!!!!! I enjoy your videos....you speak of humidity, you must be somewhere in the Midwest? Your accent I cannot place? We retired to the Southwest so humidity is not an issue here only during monsoons then the humidity does not stay around.....being from the Midwest myself, humidity and cold snowy winters are NOT missed! Looks amazing. What ratio ink to alcohol in the little bottles please
@SCARYHAIRLADY2 жыл бұрын
I would start out with 1:9 ratio but it really depends on what you are doing . sometimes it is very little ink to alcohol , sometimes it is more ink than alcohol. I never mix up a lot so I can change it up.

I'm brand new to learning about alcohol inks, and I love your tutorials and how you actually explain what you're doing. Would you mind clarifying--are you using a regular heat gun, like the type people use for embellishing? Your gun is so close to the paper, I have found myself burning (and sadly, melting) various things over the years, and am in awe of how close you are to the paper! Thank you for creating...
@SCARYHAIRLADY2 жыл бұрын
The blow dryer I am using is a Revlon Brush dryer. it has a brush attachment on the end that I take off. It is just a blow dryer. The heat gun has the heat but not the air flow that I need for these.

Fascinating! How close to the paper/ink are you with the dryer?
@SCARYHAIRLADY4 жыл бұрын
About an inch to inch and half. But its on low and low heat
@caseyslove3 жыл бұрын
Forgot to ask. Do you use the shiny side or the more matte side of the Kirkland photo paper? Some artists say the back of the paper is best. You do such beautiful things with alcohol inks - I would love to know your method. Thank you.
@SCARYHAIRLADY3 жыл бұрын
the back side. the matte side. The shiny side is make to soak in the ink as it is the side that gets printed on. Thank you for your comment.

Lorrie, I am brand new to AI, and I am absorbing as much info as I can about this. These roses are stunning! I've just learned that I can't get 99% isopropyl alcohol in my state...am I doomed??? Is there something else I can use to achieve these effects successfully? My heart is breaking to think that I won't be able to do this!

Hey, you mentioned about beading and humidity. My alcohol dries up so quickly and so can get so much of drying time for making such circles. Could that be bcz of humidity around?
@SCARYHAIRLADY3 жыл бұрын
If I have too high heat they will dry faster. If it is humid then I get the little beads. They don't bother me. If you need more time drying just add some alcohol and keep going. The humidity will bother it a little but the heat cancels it out. But humidity will not make it dry faster. Hope this helps

What’s the ratio of ink to isopropyl in the bottle?
@SCARYHAIRLADY Жыл бұрын
It really depends on how light or dark you want your color. If you are wanting it darker add less alcohol if you want it pink then add more alcohol. So the amounts can vary.

@SCARYHAIRLADY4 жыл бұрын
it really depends on how dark or light you want it. I have some that are 50/50 and some are 10% ink to 90% alcohol. you will just have to play with it. Good luck

Thank you for not spending up your tutorial. It's helpful sometimes to see just how long things are done. I noticed you have dr. Ph Martins inks on your list. Do you mix them in a bottle with alcohol or use them straight out of the bottle? How do you like them? It was nice chatting on messenger thus morning. This kitty of yours is quite a little talker.
@SCARYHAIRLADY4 жыл бұрын
That is a booboo. I just used alcohol ink. I copy and paste all the list and did not correct the colors. I will do that now. But for the Dr. ph love them. I will do a review on them. You can use them with water or alcohol. but when used with water and it dries it is done. You can not reactive it. but alcohol will reactivate it . In the video that comes out wed. #98 I talk a little about it. Good luck

Please do not use alcohol inks around your pets or children. I have been an alcohol ink artist for years and I always have a 3M respirator mask on and my window open. Alcohol ink fumes are toxic!!! I am sure you love your pets and you don't want to expose your animals to toxic fumes. I have three cats and they are not allowed in my art studio.

My cats also like to smell the inks, but I make sure they don't enter the office.. I ask God to take care of them when I'm not paying attention.🥲🙏🏻❤️🐈🐈⬛

Good information to know!! And I’m sure she knows as she’s also been doing this for years but sometimes ppl have better ventilation than others so hopefully that’s the case. But anyways, thanks for the reminder, I definitely didn’t know these things when I first started a few years ago! 😊

I tried to tell Henry but he just wont listen. He wants to hang out and even sometimes he just sits on my art table waiting for me to come and paint. I also do not show my set up because that is not what people want to watch. I fully support everyone to do alcohol inks as they see fit. I assure you we are fine.
