I played this as a kid. Heck, my mother played this as a kid more than 50 years ago. All you need to play is pen and paper. No need for a timer - it's over when somebody has everything. Think up a few categories (especially weird ones like "reason for divorce") and go!

Do things include people, animals and plants too? Example for the category “Things in a hospital”, is Heart Surgeon valid? Or “Things that have tails”, is Cat valid?

We've started playing it as "Wrong Scattergories" like the Challenge of Wits from Flip the Table. Definitely turns it from a thinky game to a very funny one.

Scattergories is kinda quiet and non-interactive. The game is very cerebral sure but I'm just not sure it's a game that has wide spread appeal. You'd have to play this game with a group that loves words. A mixed group of people would just find most of them bored and/or frustrated.
